"Melbourne call centre worker Cori Girondoudas was warned four times to remove the pictures from her desk under an Australia Post policy restricting workers to three personal items on their desks."

Charming isn't it? I've seen plenty of work places where people have all sorts of crap around their workstations and glued to their monitors. Gina was 'fined' $3000 for her misdemeanor. An Australia Post neo-Nazo.. ooops I mean 'representative' claimed the fine was reflective of her failure to respond to a supervisors directive, fair enough if the supervisors request was reasonable.

This is a prime example of Australia Posts managements stupidity and pigheadeness. They are more concerned with playing stupid games with their staff than providing the community with the postal service it deserves.

Have you ever had a parcel broken? A letter go missing? Or an article turn up days or weeks late? Workers at Australia Post have become cynical and lack care in their duties because of the treatment of supervisory staff, the attitude towards YOU, the customer displayed by management gets passed down the line.

If you have had enough of Australia Post register a complaint on the Australia Post customer service (now there's an oxymoron) line, 131318.

I just read the article in this morning's newspaper.

These so called workplace policies are a little pathetic at times. To me it's these reasons why companies and so forth do deserve the stick they get from their workers.

I don't know if it's APs way of showing who is boss, but I thought most people were reasonable and things could be worked out between worker and employee.

You should see my desk.

My monitor has South Park stickers on it, I have a photo of Kenny & my kids on my desk, along with numerous Bomber stickers & nic nacs. :D

I was supposed to get an apology from the Aust Post parcel delivery guy last week, for leaving my birthday presents on my verandah in full view of anyone walking past, lucky they were still there when I got home from work, guess what, a week later & still haven't heard from him.

Angelo thinks this is very racist and will be getting Da South Melbourne Boys to fix misdemeanour up. Cori and me really good friends and cum here on same boat, she finds Angelo sexually arousing and has lots of photos of Angelo on Cori's desk

I agree that it's AP's way of showing who's boss. the fine is ridiculous and lacks common sense, but on the other hand, it was a directive given by a superior. at my work, if I repeatedly ignored a direct request, I can expect to be punished. as long as the directive is not illegal or discriminatory, the employee has little choice but to obey, even if it's stupid.

call centre jobs are dime a dozen. if she didn't like it, she could have gone to another call centre that allows personal items.

If that was the policy in place when she started, then she deserves to get reprimanded.

HOWEVER, a $3000 fine? You've got to be kidding me!

I'd hate to see what I'd get! I've got pictures of my niece and nephew, pics of my Hawthorn boys (B&F night), tennis players (the bad boys of tennis), and Garfield everywhere! And that's not even taking into account all my little toys! Man, I'd be paying them to work!

:D

It is AP's way of showing who is boss. Bully boy tactics, nepotism and cronyism is rife within the organisation.

I'm glad someone finally went public with the way they operate.

Another example of a company trying to suck all the personality out of an office. Did you see on the news the footage of that call centre?? High walled cubicles, identical workstations. Stuff that.

I got made redundant after working at a place for three years. It took me 2 hours to pack everything up off my desk. This included a "wall of fame" full of photos, Carlton posters, stuffed toys, water pistols, bubble mix, stickers, framed photos, a pink glittery cowboy hat, stress balls, water bottles, cocktail shakers and other miscellaneous crap.

Oh yeah, I also took everything that had my name on it, and a lot that didn't; document holder, stapler, desk calender, pens, rulers, hilighters, filing racks . . . etc. Bugger 'em!!

with respect to anyone who works or have worked in one, call centres are horrible places. I once did a uni assignment on call centres....they have one of the highest turnover rates. most people work in call centres on a temporary basis while they look for better jobs. anything that makes the job more pleasant should be encouraged not punished by the employer.

Good point. If the people who work there are happier, they will work better. Why make life miserable for the staff?
