THE STORY
Back in the 1980's, the VFL were looking to form a national Aussie rules competition, and were well on their way to doing so with teams in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, although there was one football stronghold without a team, Adelaide. The SANFL were in strong opposition to a Victoria-centric competition and refused to enter unless the competition was balanced to reflect SA and WA's standing in the sport.
The SANFL were able to keep all their clubs at bay from signing up to the VFL (including Port Adelaide) and were also able to get the support of the Western Australian Football Commission. After a period of intense negotiations, The AFL was born with teams in every state in Australia, a truely national competition. Victoria would still come out on top with 5 teams, South Australia with 3, Western Australia with 3 and then 5 expansion teams to be placed in non-traditional Aussie rules locations. German manufacturer Adidas was given the task of developing brands and guernseys for all of the 16 clubs in time for the 1990 season.
THE PORTFOLIO
One of the 16 new AFL clubs will be revealed daily, with all of the jumpers presented on a 'retro big footy' template alongside a logo on a club scarf from Adidas, an official 1990 AFL footy card footy card from Italian brand, Panini, as well as a photo of the club's new home ground and some backstory.
The logos for this portfolio come from all over, existing stuff, custom made designs and also sourced ones from the net. If you have any queries about where they are from then feel free to ask but I think it should be pretty clear what is what.
