Fans getting to keep the ball

It'd be nice if balls into the crowd were able to be kept such as in baseball (players will literally throw balls to the crowd) but that isn't the way.

in baseball they got to that point because players could deliberately hit balls into the crowd (one player hit 10 in a row after he wasn't given enough for autographs). I can't see that happening in AFL too often

You took my post way too literally

What about cheap pies?

Or 'away strips'?

What about this wacky idea - 'game day experience'!!?

I don't buy food at the footy, I take a thermos with a couple of frankfurters, a couple of hot dog buns and sometimes I will take some margarine if I'm in the mood. Then I go and rack some sauce from the food outlet inside the ground bob's your uncle, your very own hot dog (or 2)

One time I took some shredded cheese to add a bit of extra flavour and it tasted really good but I can't be bothered going to that effort every time

I remember a few years ago at a game at Subi where the players kicked balls into the crowd after a game, well one came our way and I just stuck out the mitt and FMD if it didn't stick like glue.

My kids thought I was a God that day

Dull? No wonder you blokes only drew 14k to your game last week. Get to the g on Saturday and let me know if you think it's still dull.

Pretty much. At least in the southern states, nothing has promoted the game as much as the game itself. The gimmicks the AFL tries always seem like a distraction.

On the other hand, the AFL can afford to lose balls to the fans for the sake of some footy lover happiness. One consideration though would be that the balls need some warming up to function correctly, so you couldn't just throw new balls into the mix if they ran short.

Instead of it being random, maybe they could hand out raffle tickets on entry and if they draw your raffle ticket and you have kept your raffle ticket from entry then you hand it over and then you win the ball and get to take it home to keep as a momento maybe in the pool room or if you were keen you could even use it for kick to kick in the backyard or maybe in a park if your backyard is small and there is not enough room to kick a football around and you could also take it along to events like bbqs with friends and family and have a kick around although it might be a bit big for the kids so it would be good if they also had smaller sized footys available in the raffle so the kids at the bbq will be able to kick the footy around too

That's the kind of thing I'm talking about, what a terrific idea. Bring back the atmosphere
All right! I'm in. Dart boards (complete with worn out masking tape 10ft away on the beer-stained carpet) and the pop-out cardboard lotto ticket machines that never seemed to produce a number equal to any of the prize winning numbers listed on the front.

I don't where they are going to get the balls from though, no one in AFL house has any.
