With the mini series of Wake in Fright starting last night on tv, it reminded me of the movie; Donald Pleasance's performance as Doc Tyson was excellent. Probably the best Aussie accent by a foreigner too.

Glad to see someone mention Manhunter - a really underappreciated movie, and the first appearance of Hannibal Lecter, played by Brian Cox.

Now for an opinion that many will consider blasphemy. I strongly prefer Cox's portrayal over Anthony Hopkins'. Not that there's anything particulalry wrong with Hopkins as Lecter, but it always lacked a sense of verisimilitude to me. Can you imagine anyone going to see his Lecter (as a patient of course) and not running out of the office screaming, or immediately contacting the AMA? Maybe it's me, but I've always found an understated nutter to be far more disturbing than an overt, and in Hopkins' case, an over the top nutter.

Mads Mikkelsen was absolutely superb as Lecter in Hannibal. Have people seen it?

The best portrayal of Lecter imo. However he had far more screen time to develop the character.

Mikkelsen the best Lecter for mine. Still hoping it gets a Netflix revival of some kind.

I imagine Hopkins plays him creepier because it’s after he’s been caught and he’s been isolated so long.
