Let's see....

* Against North in 2001 when he took the mark running back with the flight, got pole-axed by Archer, bounced up, played on and slotted the goal from 25m out on a 25 degree angle. Bought the margin within 40 points!

* The final against Freo where he dived in under the pack, handballed to Lloyed in the square for the goal. That same game he also managed to 'talk' to the ball when the ball when was heading out of bounds, took a abrupt turn and split the middle!

* Of course the WCE and ANZAC day games...

Just to name a few out of 1000.

i know it was lucas that kinda dominated the game, but the farewell at subi was pretty huge.

the respect that was shown to him from the WCE fans was pretty special. shows what a universal impact he had on the game.

Watching him run out onto the ground with boys in 2002 after coming back from the face injury. I was pretty young at the time and I thought he would never play again. I was so happy to see him on the ground.

Also in the 2004 semi final when he kicked that checkside grubber in the wet late in the last quarter. Ever since then everytime I go to the park the first thing I do is try and replicate Hirdy's goal.

Too many favorite moments to consider but the most memorable was definately watching him walk off after his last game at Subi.

I am not ashamed to admit that i had a bit of a cry watching it.

The last time this happened in a game of football was after Plugger kicked the winning point in the 96 prelim.

I also remember being at VFL park for his first game against the Saints and in hindsight that was a pretty important moment.

They only did it because he was retiring and he would stop tearing them a new one everytime we played them :)

nah living here in perth you see that both eagles and dockers fans have always had a soft spot for him. as much as eagles hated the bombers for all those great encounters, there is always an awe when talking about hird.

i spoke to the doc that did the surgery on his face and he said that hird had kept in contact with him over the years since then.

says he is an absolute champ of a guy too.

Seeing as all the big moments have pretty much been mentioned, thought id add a few ones that stuck out in my mind, some will be remembered some wont.

- A game against Carlton i think 2005 at the G which we ended up losing and i cant remember the specifics but it was wet and slippery and there was a contested ball and a carlton player slid in at full pace at the ball and Jimmy just grasped the ball as clean as you would like and jumped over the incoming sliding player, balanced up and hit a target.

- That dribbling checkside (again in the wet) late in the semi-final against Geelong from about 45 pressed up against the boundary.

- I distinctly remember that hanger he took against Freo at the dome i think 2003 im pretty sure it was from one of their kick-ins. (The one in the One Man video about Hirdy that is on youtube)

- A game i think 2000 or 2001 against Adelaide at the dome (Longy kicked 5 or 6) when we came from behind and ran all over them. There was a moment right in front of where i was sitting in the back pocket where there was a crows player waiting in the goal square seemingly all alone as the ball came in and out of nowhere the great man slid in on the ball, bounced up and ran it out of the backline when he simply had no right to do it!

All great moments i will never forget

Oh i loved that checkside goal. it gave us a little chase of winning.
That Freo mark was in the first quarter of the 2005 qualifying final, where everyone throught Freo were going to win and we smashed them. Hird had 10+ possess plus 3 goals in the first quarter.

My favourite moment was that Anzac game where he kicked five (cupido also kicked five that game.)

Footy show, when he bagged umpire Mclaren. Said what every one else had been thinking.
Then to top it all off the press conference the next day when the AFL paraded the umpire in front of the cameras, and made it seem like hirdy had gone on a 3 state killing spree.....
The supporter (i think it was carlton) try to hand hirdy $20 to help pay the fine.

Footy memories are too numerous to mention, but any Anzac Day was always a highlight....

2 favourite moments for me...............Which are the 2 occassions he a his wife decided to create 2 more little james hirds !!!!!!!!!

LMAO!! THE BEST!!!!!!!!

The memory that stands out most in my mind actually is last year Hirdy was in the locker room stretching and Hirdy Jr's were running around in there annoying him, pretending to take speccies off his back while he was trying to stretch, they were attempting to annoy (Fletcher?) and Hirdy just went about stretching while they jumped all over him.
Cutest thing ive ever seen.
Everyone knows his kids. He's just such a loving Dad.
Oh and one of the little boys was sitting under him in the change rooms at a very young age and Hirdy was sharing his sandwich with his son.
My bad.. im a bit of a softie.

Them boys are guna grow up with the same passion Hirdy had. Lets hope they grow up havin the same skill to!

Be big expectations on them tho. Look at the Ablett boys.
