Re: Fed Exprees

Happens all the time with each 'generation' of stars.

Sampras, Agassi, Rafter etc were replaced with the next generation in Federer, Roddick, Safin etc earlier this decade.

It's a mixture of both the current generation decreasing in ability, and the next generation increasing in ability.

So now this current generation of stars (led by Federer) is being replaced by the next, with players like Nadal (was by far the first of his generation to rise though), Djokovic, Murray, Monfils etc

2007 was the year this next generation started to make some noise, 2008 was the year they made their ascension, and 2009 will be the year they take over completely.

In my opinion, if Federer doesn't win a grand slam this year, he won't win one ever again.

Re: Fed Exprees

Federer has lost the will to fight. He loses concentration easily and the Murray semi was the usual mix of Fed hitting more winners because he is the most talented and Fed beating himself with loss of concentration spraying unforceds all over the court.

He may win another couple of slams if and only if he can discipline himself to work and concentrate but he will never again be number one. The days of 7,000 never mind 8,000 ranking points are over.

Now that Murray has grown into his frame he is clearly a threat to everyone. His shoulders are so powerful adn he has presence now. Murrray is the next number one and may be there by Sept.

Re: Fed Exprees

I'm tipping Murray will finish the year as number 2. It'll be hard to go past Nadal. He wins so many tennis tournaments including everything during the Clay season.

Re: Fed Exprees

I think Federer will regain the number 1 ranking at some stage and also win a couple more slams at least. Sure, he may not be at his peak, but just like he showed at the last grand slam in the US, he won and still has it. People seem to easily forget he made the final of Wimbledon and Roland Garros also last year. With the draw set up as the rankings are now, he wouldn't have to meet Nadal, Djoko or Murray until the semifinals. And if the player on his side of the draw were to lose before the semis, as could happen, he could make finals without meeting one of the 3 players who has a reaslistic shot at beating him. He is only 27 and I think there are more slams left for him and that will be his aim, as well as regaining the #1 ranking.

This year will tell if Federer still has it. As i recall, last year when Federer entered the Aus Open, something wasn't right with him, he might have been ill? He didn't look at the top of his game at all.

(Reading articles, Federer was obsessed with statistics and being number one, that he forgot about playing the game, which may show his slump)

I'll leave a question open, Have players caught up, or has Federer lost his touch, not as good as he once was for various reasons?

With Coaching, I'm not sure, but did he dump Tony Roach? If so, as we've seen previously with Hewitt not having a tennis coach (but a fitness one), it is a mistake to not have one.

Federer has one year to show us he's able to keep up with the likes of Murray, or he'll just become another top5 player.
