I know that we lost tonight and now we've only got one chance left, but I'm feeling a bit more confident after tonight. If we do end up making the Grand Final and playing the Hawks, I'm confident that we can beat them. Taz showed that he can contain Buddy and Cloke has hit form. Our stars (Pendles, Swan, Beams) failed to fire tonight, and I truly believe we can knock off the Hawks if they fire. Anyone else agree?

Yep I agree, mainly on the basis that anything can happen in finals, particularly grand finals - and we weren't that far away tonight.

But that is three out of three they've beaten us and to be brutally honest, on balance they are a better team than us at the moment.

Having said that, we showed enough tonight to suggest we can beat West Coast, then likely we'd meet Crows, who I think we can beat.
If Cats beat Freo and Swans ( they probably will ) that puts them in Prelim vs Hawks.

Should the Cats maintain their hold over the Hawks, we may play Cats again in the grannie and I do think we are better than them - so there's still hope!

It's like opposite year this year. The more we lose the more confident everyone seems to be.

Sadly, I think we're done for the year. We may win next week but the flag is gone. I just hope someone other than Hawthorn wins it because their supporters are the worst on BF.

I'm a lot more confident this finals series compared to last year. When we lost to Geelong in the three games last year, we weren't playing like Collingwood. Tonight, we were attacking and playing well. If a few things went our way and our stars fired, who knows what could've happened.

I agree with this. I thought the boys really went out hard tonight. Felt better than every other loss this year because I felt that, while we didn't win, we gave it absolutely everything we had. If we play like we did tonight,or maybe slightly better, I think we would have beaten most finals teams. I think we have a good chance to get to a prelim or grannie, and from there who knows. Hopefully Geelong can get Hawthorn and then, it's anyone's guess . As for beating Hawthorn, I would give us a slim chance, but still a chance all the same

If we don't make the GF I'd be ok for Hawthorn to win. They've been the best side despite their early injuries
HOWEVER, while we're still alive I'll be going for Geelong to get to the PF and choke the Hawkies. And then its game on

hawthorn flog ^

also agree with SHP's post, did install confidence to a degree, intent was there to an extent, hawks were not the well drilled unit they have been talked up to be. the only thing that worried me was that the ball always seemed to fall to hawthorn tonight, wether it was will to get to the right spot or pure luck (nobody knows) i cant be sure. all in all i expect us to make a prelim and quite possibly (given we will be playing away) a GF

Nope

Tonight showed me we are not at the Top we are a Rung Down and we could make Sneak into the Granny but I could not see us beating the Hawks in the Granny

I agree the Hawks Fans can be Way to Arrogant

We played much better tonight. A few things fall our way and the result could've been different. We had 1 crack to get back into it in the 3rd quarter and that ridiculous free was given to Buddy when Cloke was lining up for goal. Anyway, we are about 6 goals off the hawks atm but they are no certainty to get past the prelim. We have to throw everything at next week and if we get past that well then its game on. I'm still quietly confident but also realistic that it's going to take something special in the next 3 weeks. Refuse to give up hope.

I am confident becuase we have a 2 day extra break than the Eagles and plus they have to travel.

If we beat them then we play Swans, who have not beat us in a very long time. If the Cats play the Hawks they will beat them and then it would be a Collingwood v Geelong GF. We have also won against them twice this year.

Having said that if we play the Hawks we are simply no chance. So as long as we win the games up until the GF we are a chance depending on who we play. I honostly don't know why we can't beat WCE or Sydney/Adelaide. If we play like we played in the first half, we will make the GF.

We lost by 7 goals with them without Guerra,Young and Lewis and Whitecross subbed out early.
Round 17 we lost by 8 goals............yeah 1 goal difference feels me with confidence:rolleyes:

We have no chance against the Hawks. The Hawks were nowhere near full gear against us, and still could have beat us by a lot more than they did. They are quicker, stronger and more skilled, particularly on the outside once the ball is in space.

If we play them again they will smash us, no doubt about that but the thing is why might not play them again if the Cats can beat them. Would you still not be confident if the Hawks werent going to make the GF? I would say we would be a 50-50 chance. Obviously we would have to get there first but I would have thought there is nothing not to be confident about next week or playing against SYD/ CROWS in a prelim who we both beat.

How can you be confident after that? Cloke played as well as he could of; Tarrant beat Franklin for the meaningful parts of the game; we clearly won the rucks and most of the midfielders were pretty good. They had 1 less players for most of the match yet we were still easilly beaten.

I thought most of the 22 played pretty well which is a huge problem. The talent of our best has either been grossly overrated or there is fundamental issue in the gameplan we employ against Hawthorn. Either way, unless Hawthorn don't qualify for the grandfinal I can't see us winning the Grand Final - right now I can't see any possibility of them implementing a style that can beat the Hawks in two weeks.

I think this is a fair call though. Before tonight I thought the Hawks were the clear best side in the AFL with Collingwood having the potential to be alongside them. We're a fair way off them but I'm pretty confident we would account for the next best on tonights performance - was significantly better than anything we've produced in the last 8 weeks.

I'll feel more confident in two weeks time if we happen to make the GF, and Hawthorn get beaten in their prelim.

I'm not meaning this as a troll in any way but i was very dissappointed in Collingwood's game tonight. I had money on you guys at the line so i was barracking for the pies. The Hawks lost Guerra & Young from last week and Lewis was a late withdrawel; they then lost Whitecross in the first 5 mins or so and still won easily. Your midfield was very poor. With Lewis out, Pendles, Swan, Beams, Thomas & co. should have done alot better. Their midfield dominated (mainly Mitchell). Your backline leaks goals way too easily also, not just tonight. Micky M certainly had you playing alot better defensively all over the ground (he had that war zone setup or something along those lines i remember reading).

Anyway, bad luck tonight. You guys did fight in the 2nd qtr but were very poor after half time; you would think that the hawks would of tired with Whitecross going down so early and using their sub but they got stronger and pies faltered and weakened as the game wore on. You will have to lift quite a bit to go on and beat North/WCE. Good luck.

I'm with Shade the logic behind this thread is baffling. IMO it's now just a case of the enemy of your enemy is your friend, in lamens terms CARN THE CATTERS. Them knocking off the Hawks in a Prelim is our only realistic chance now unfortunately.
