How can this idiot get away with whacking Fev?

Brendan Fevola's assault puzzle

A HAWTHORN fan who attacked trouble-plagued Carlton star Brendan Fevola has escaped punishment after an AFL probe into the incident proved inconclusive.
Fevola suffered a blow to the back of the head during the last quarter of the Blues' NAB Cup semi-final win against Hawthorn last week.
He believed the blow came from a flogger belonging to a member of the Hawks' cheer squad.
The AFL investigated, but could not trace the offender because the incident was not caught on camera.
"Fev' had raised it (the complaint) with a ground manager, but we're not able to do anything," AFL spokesman Patrick Keane said.
"We checked all the vision from the day's game, we checked the ground cameras too, but we couldn't find anything."
The Blues spearhead said he was shocked by the incident, which he said left him with a lump on his head.
The incident strains the already testy relationship between Fevola and spectators.

When does it end ??? seriously soon we will have cages around the boundary to stop idiotic fans . It had to be a hawthorn supporter , couldn't take loosing to the blues.

You'd like to see the Hawthorn cheer squad take action on this sort of thing. You can't throw something out of a crowd without being seen, so in this sort of instance I think the best thing to happen would be the Hawks cheer squad dob in one of their own and tear up their membership.

Likewise if one of ours did it to Buddy. It's not on.

spot on:thumbsu:

Nothing in it. Fev backed into a flogger as a team mate was having a shot for goal and the poor person operating the flogger had no idea that he would come back and literally hit the fence and flogger.

One of those unfortunate accidents that happen. Now I'm all for banning someone deliberately striking a player, but this was not one of those events.

That's what I saw anyway. Fev obviously had his eye on the ball so wouldn't know if it was deliberate, the Hawthorn cheersquad was also watching the ball and waving their floggers. Accident, no further action needed.

Anyway that's how I saw it!

There is a thread on this on the main board, and most Hawks supporters agree with you.

Pretty fair that, but I can't see it happening, especially if those two old blokes are still front and centre of that cheer squad.

What the hell is a flogger? And please don't say somethign stupid like a Hawthorn supporter, it's been done already

Is it one of those air things you bang together?

It used to be a stick with streamers in club colours attached. They were banned after catching fire years ago but seem to be edging their way back. It's the stick that smarts.

Cheer squads should not have their floggers breaching the playing arena when players & the ball are in the vicinity. Hopefully the AFL will send a memorandum to all clubs stipulating this to all cheer squads. Accident or not, the playing field is the place of employment for AFL players & it is up to the AFL, stadium operators & clubs to protect this working environment from preventable accidents such as this one.

I only went to the first 2 games where there were no run-throughs. Must have happened again last night. At first I was a bit pissed off but thinking about it I wonder if we are just going along with the VISY environment stance and not wasting resources on a non-game? It certainly demonstrates our perceptions regarding the difference between a practice match and the real deal.

But all teams wave their pom poms when an opposition player is having a shot on goal to psych them out. This isn't a first.

And besides I saw far worse from our cheer squad. When a shocking umpiring decision went against us in our backline.. people from our cheer squad proceeded to throw objects (could have been bottle tops or similar) at the players.. Thornton copped one by accident.
2 seconds later a message came up on the scoreboard about "throwing projectiles onto the arena is an offence blah blah"

thats what i thought , and yep no run through last night .

Totally unacceptable, but Fev doesn't do himself any favours by constantly engaging with opposition cheersquads.

What..please come over hear and hit me...you;re an idiot
