Who ever it was that decided to triple team Fev late, is an a$$hole. Pure and simple. Typical Hawthorn arrogance.

Stopping an obvious threat of scoring a goal = proper football ?
Me thinks so, carlton say no?

When a team is 70 odd points up late in the last, why triple team someone. In any other game this wouldn't have been done. It was purely to stop Fev getting the 100. It had nothing to do with playing "proper football", it was typical Hawthorn arrogance and you know it.

lol @ thread

By this reasoning, Carlton were unsportsmanlike to contest Buddy at all during the opening quarter. Actually, why didn't they let him get to 150 while they were at it, manipulate history.

Milestone are just that because they must be earned ALL season long, not declared a gimme in round 22. It would ruin the game to suddenly allow a player to kick goals in the name of fabricating history.

FWIW, I wanted him the kick the 100, or at least one final shot at it. Fact is, he was gifted a goal late, and missed 3 or 4 chances in the opening quarter.

Think you're missing the point - Yes, Buddy was double teamed early, but with only 2 goals to go at the start of the game, and with finals also to play Buddy was always going to get the ton this year. Also at the start of the game, the game was up for grabs. For Fev, it was his last game, he had more goals to get, and the game was well and truly over by half time.

And to say that milestones are earnt all season long, not declared a gimme in round 22 pretty stupid - Fev's clearly had a great year otherwise he wouldn't have been entering the game on 92. There were a lot of Hawks supporters around where I was standing who wanted to see Fev get the ton and were p*ssed off with Clarkson's tactics on Fev in the last.

Looks like Fev is the only AFL / VFL player to finish on 99. Great effort to kick 7 last night. As for the 99, that's the test batting average Don Bradman finished on, so Fev is the closest thing we have in the AFL to Don Bradman

As for Buddy, sensational effort. No doubt it won't be the first time he'll kick the ton. Hawthorn's disposal and runnning last night was sensational.

Exactly! There were two Hawks five metres of the drop of the ball stopping his run at the football while not making any attempt for a mark - free kick every day of the week. :thumbsd:
.

I HATE YOU CLARKSON, you are a little XXXX you were a XXXX of a player and now i my my mind you are a XXXX of a coach. Fancy with fev being on 99 goald having three players on him with2 minutes to go, absolute dog act. I wish some one would do an ian aitken to you , you little ****.(i feel better know phew!)by the way trim your eyebrows munchkin.

Ratten was almost crying
laughable really.

Grow up, take it like like a man and not like a Nick Stevens

It was blatantly obvious that in addition to winning the game Hawthorn had also set themselves the goal of denying Fev his century. In as much as their defensive tactics were to win the game they were sportsmanlike, in as much as they were for the sole purpose of denying Fev his century they were anything but, something you'd expect from a club who cover up their stars' mental health issues and trade them away for top price, real classy.

Look at it this way: 4 of Hawthorn's key defenders had 7 goals kicked on them, you won't win any flags with that defence.

But credit where due, Buddy got the the ton in the home and away season, his final figures: 102 goals, 84 behinds, 93 fell short and were rushed through, 79 fell short and weren't rushed through and another 127 out of bounds on the full. I'll give you the tip, if you're at a urinal and Buddy walks in, get out before he starts spraying all over!

In the last entry into our 50, they actually had 4 players around him. I thought for a moment the umpire might have paid a sheparding free kick to him.

Me too but it's Fev. As if! I was surprised they paid his 99th as a free. How did they pay that free against him though?

It was extremely un-Australian of Hawthorn to drop players back but shit happens hey.

What an effort by Fev this year to go so close though! He will get there eventually :thumbsu:

Dear Hawthorn: Could you please find it in your hearts to take your foot off our throat long enough for our full forward to be given something he's unable to earn by himself? Please? Otherwise people might think you're mean.

That is the most laughable post I have ever read  Carlton were still in the game in the first quarter douche! How you can say that is ridiculous! :thumbsd:

As an interested bystander, the whole situation was little bizarre.

Had Fev kicked the century it would have been difficult to argue it was legitimate...as good a year as he's had. Yes he kicked seven goals but some of the efforts his teammates made to give the ball to him was rediculous.....and would never have even been attempeted in a normal game.

As for Hawthorn flooding back onto Fev, I'm not sure this was a deliberate ploy by their coaching staff. To me it simply looked like several Hawthorn players were leaving their players to go to Fev, knowing that every forward thrust was going to him.

In the end, the right bloke won the Coleman and reached 100. Fev missed opportunities early in the game and had he reached 100 in the last quarter it would have seemed manufactured. Just my two cents worth anyway.

I agree. It'd be like winning a premiership knowing that you tanked season after season to get no.1 draft picks. Or buying players from other clubs.

:thumbsu: Summed up nicely. Fevola had his chances in the first quarter but the pressure got to him.

Asked about Hawks concentrating on Fevola, Ratten replied: "I suppose maybe we could have done that at the start (on Franklin), I suppose that's the way he (Clarkson) has seen it."

Pressed on the subject, Ratten said "they were only 70 points up".

Ratten was then asked what he would have done in the same situation.

"I won't answer that," he said.

Well said Ratts :thumbsu:

The fact of the matter is, Clarkson went out of his way to deny Fev his 100th goal and that is as un-Australian as it gets :thumbsd:

And we have another contender!

Even Buddy said on the Sunday Footy show that what happened (with putting men back on Fev) wasn't right.

Bower played 1 on 1 with Buddy all night ffs.

Anyone using the 'Coleman medal' as an excuse is ridiculous. Fev was never going to get 3 goals in 3 minutes of football.

@ that guy who said it was 'manipulating history'. What bullshit. Jesting about how we would have left Buddy on his own in comparison to our arguments just displays ignorance and makes you sound stupid.

I grew a bit of hatred for the hawks a the end.

I really was cheering so hard for fev, should have got that free kick

Exactly right, clarkson and the hawks have just made themselves an up and coming enemy, its just gonna make it even sweeter in the years to come when we smash them in a final. well done fev seven goals in a half of footy, and 99 goals to a team that finished out of the eight is a great achievement,

If thats the case take atleast 10 goals of buddys record ... because i guarentee he would of been given a gimmie that many times by the umps.... and dont say he doesnt because every player does especially forwards.

For what it's worth I think Fev will kick 110 next year. When you've got Judd, Murphy, Gibbs and Stevens delivering the pill lace out every, single, time you're gonna be doing it easy:thumbsu:
