I'm not really that excited by the journey in this new FIFA. Can see it being underwhelming, you'll burst onto the scene, be talked up as the next big thing, get ahead of yourself, some troubles to take place, then eventually rule and become one of the greatest players ever.

NBA has a lot less to focus on graphically than a football game so your argument there is moot. It's like comparing the graphics of GTA with Gran Turismo.

I will guess the new mode will be scripted as to how it pans out, and people aren't gonna be too happy just being able to use Alex Hunter.
FIFA if anything has it far easier. The majority of the play is zoomed out and you really only get a look at closer details for replays and the occasional close up shot.

My point is it's about time they focused on giving the graphics an upgrade. They've got different departments and a ton of resources to work on the graphics so to neglect them would just be lazy and poor from EA.

How so? I'd argue that basketball games have more work to do graphically as the camera is zoomed closer to the players than in a soccer game. Elements are all the same though - players, clothes, crowds, nets, etc.
The stadiums are bigger, there are more players on a football team too.

the NBA mode makes me cringe but if they fix a couple of things up in manager mode it'll be good enough for me..!

perhaps it's just a trial run and if it gets good reviews and feedback, they will improve on it to make it fully customisable.

It'll be their 'women's league' gimmick for the next year I expect, will be popular to a degree and will likely have full customisation as a 'special feature' for '18 even though there would be next to no reason why they can't have it fully customised from day one (no different to having a customised wrestler in a WWE career mode).

I wish they'd piss off the women's league stuff and focus on making a legends/historic mode or something similar and focus in improving career mode.

The thing that struck me about playing the NBA 2k16 version is that you can buy credits to improve your player. As soon as I saw that I was sure that EA would be on board. You don't have to look far to see that they love monetising games. Perhaps doing so might be the only way we ever get a decent career mode.

any word yet if the Chinese League will be added? with all the players that are heading to that league it deserves to be in.

I reckon PES will jump to get those licenses, they've got AFC generally covered quite well

I guarantee you EA are all over it. They'll cover it with the extra money they'll make from Ultimate Team still having Ramires.

the thing with 2k's career mode is that after the spike lee shit ****s off, it's a really good example of a career mode. you play games, you make vc, vc is then used to improve your player. you can then choose whether to do training to get more slots to upgrade your player later on, you can do endorsements for vc for those upgrades or buy like tops and shoes, or you can do link ups with other players/companies/personalities and whatnot for even more rewards, like myteam cards or special upgrades for courts.

to me that is how a career mode should work. if ea can avoid the spike lee or what ea themselves did with the last need for speed stuff and tone down the cringey, cliche nonsense then if it's like 2k's career mode it should be really, really good. im just not holding my breath on the no cliches part. 'alex hunter' (lol) already looks like the prototype of a 10 year olds dream.

Alex... lame name. I will be having none of it on that alone.

Seriously though, what were 2k thinking naming me Frequency Vibrations?

2K clearly has the best career mode but even there's is pretty weak. Perfect career mode for me would be one that constantly challenges you, allows you to customise your character fully and one that constantly immerses your player in the world he's a part of.

2K right now gets incredibly boring after you start boosting your ratings, and the fact that you can't pick and choose what attributes to boost individually makes things pretty generic. It's literally you playing the games and that's about it. Commentators, the homescreens etc barely mention the rise to stardom etc.

FIFA's will sadly be similar you'd have to imagine. It would be really great if there were constant challenges like being sold, not being played, being loaned, having a rival in your league etc, but I wouldn't expect EA to even bother with half that level of detail and depth because it's EA.

This would annoy people greatly.

People want to play. Not watch their guy sit on a bench while the comp plays the games for you.

The not being played would suck but the 'player career' they've had in previous Fifa's loans you out to smaller clubs if you set your age to 19 or whatever.

Obviously this player career is different to the previous FIFA's though.

I'm happy that they're trying to revamp the career mode but I don't have high hopes for this first iteration. For me being locked as Alex Hunter the promising young striker isn't that appealing. I'd rather have less depth in the experience and have more control and flexibility over my character.

I'll be eager to try it out though.

New career mode will be fun the first time for novelty purposes, but I just hope the regular career mode remains intact with some well needed upgrades.
The whole thing needs an overhaul to be honest. It's basically been the same since I first started playing back in 2007. A few changes thrown in, but they've never really started from scratch to make a deeper career mode suited to the newer consoles like they should.

The possibilities are endless, but they're so lazy.
