FIFA Vote - final days news

The South american delegates have stated they will support Spain/Portugal for the 2018 bid- no statement issued on 2022. Bad news for England's bid.

Story here:

Bin Hammam pretty much admits to the collusion.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/3512/20...ohamed-bin-hammam-backs-spainportugal-bid-for

"Asia supports the Iberian bid," Hammam is quoted as saying by Press Association Sport. "There's an excellent relationship between Asian football and Spanish football, we have done a lot of projects together, but that doesn't mean there has been a pact between us. (KEY NOTE - Spanish/Portuguese football has done nothing in Asia, it's England who have done all the hard work but guess what? They don't accept bribes/have enough votes for collusion so we went with this bs)

"It is something that happens between a lot of bids and it's not at all illegal. Qatar is going to support Spain and Portugal and they will support us, but we're not breaking any rules." (KEY NOTE - Clearly this guy has no idea what the definition of collusion is)

However, the Iberian bid suffered a blow after doubts surfaced about their ability to fund improvements to stadiums in Portugal and Spain. "If building these stadiums means taking on more debt, I fear that they won't happen," Angel Laborda, the chief economist at Spanish savings bank foundation Funcas, told Bloomberg. "The government won't let them." :D

The interesting thing I'm reading is that Oceania are planning on sending a new delegate to vote for them next week, BUT FIFA knows nothing about it. Is the guy going to fly to Zurich and knock on the door and say "I'm here to vote"?

Surely, the association would have talked to FIFA about this type of extra-ordinary action and gotten approval. i know FIFA has said nothing can happen with the original Oceania guy appealing his suspension, but surely the association would have cleared other options with the heads in Zurich.

Seems very odd

There's a difference between support and collusion though. The news that MBH is going to support Iberia isn't that big a deal, and it's not indicative of true collusion (ie. we're going to get all our guys throughout the ExCo to vote for you if you get all your guys throughout the ExCo to vote for us).

MBH may bring one or two Asian votes with him but he doesn't control the whole lot.

This is not to say the Qatar/Iberia relationship isn't shifty, because it is, it's just not the end of the world.

It is shifty, because it brings 3 ExCo into it that have NOTHING to do with Qatar or Spain. If it was just Spain and Qatar fair enough,or even Sth America maybe but not the other 3 who will be voting against their confederations/associations to be in a dodgy pact

I can't delve far enough to find it but I do remember Blatter stating that both confederations were free to replace their members on the condition that the suspended ones didn't appeal. Teymarii it seems will stand down for the good of Oceania and Adamu is flatly refusing to yield. How he can possibly defend himself (asked for money put directly into his bank account) is beyond belief. Temarii didn't ask for any money personally, was cleared of corruption by FIFA but was suspended for misconduct. I am sure that he is very pissed off at the moment and I can only hope that he does the right thing and moves aside. Expect Qatar to secretly offer him a massive bribe to not stand aside, I wouldn't put it past them :( It hurts Qatar that Adamu hasn't been replaced (he was voting either Qatar or US, which one nobody knows) and a double blow if OFC gets a vote, which will definitely not be for Qatar.

When do we hear if Chung can replace Temarii for 2018/2022 voting?

Well, you're dealing with FIFA- who knows how they would handle it? I'd think nothing until Monday morning in Zurich, at the earliest. Some sort of statement would have to come out about Oceania's actions- they might want FIFA to announce that for them.

Qatar are dogs, they tried to force Desmond Tutu to back their 2022 bid:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...glands-2018-World-Cup-dream-sheiks-Qatar.html

Al Thawadi gives them a donation and then writes a letter thanking Archbishop Desmond Tutu for backing Qatar 2022!!!

Luckily for us, Archbishop Tutu didn't bow to their pressure and has thrown support behind our bid. Suck on that one Qatar you corrupt bastards!!!

Yep*

* provided he's not corrupt

There is no amount bribe large enough to compete with the money & investment Australia puts into Oceania football development. Quite simply, if Chung doesn't vote for us, he can kiss goodbye Aussie support in Oceania.

How much is that worth? I don't honestly know, but I would imagine it would run into the tens of millions and not even the Qataris would offer a bribe on that scale to one single delegate.

If bookies released odds on whether Chung backs Australia in 2022 bidding I would put every dollar to my name on it.

It won't happen again given Australia is bidding but last minute bribery has worked before on a Oceania delegate who went against his confederation's wishes.

Interesting.

In another thread I linked to an article quotong soemoen familiar with exco members.

Some of them will be dead when the actual WC comes aroud - they are interested only in what they can gain personally.

For mine, a wink from elle mcpherson will do the trick - appently claudia schiffer did it for germany

Yeah, I remember that saga. Dempsey abstained, but interestingly enough, he had abstained in a previous voting round too if I remember.

Nonetheless Australia is bidding this time and I just cannot see Chung voting for anyone but us. It would be like Geoff Thompson voting for Iberia - not going to happen.

I like your style :) Wonder which woman Qatar are going to bring to Zurich :)

We need Miranda Kerr to be involved in some frantic last minute lobbying for World Cup 2022.......
