Re: Retirements/Delistings/Drafting/Promotions

Not sure about that AJ. If they are filling positions 35-38 in the side and are experienced depth it is not all bad. Imagine having 38 players who are all worthy of being in your best 22. You would be losing them constantly to other clubs. Some players fill a decent role (Bannister) but nobody else wants them so they are content to wait for their chances.

I am not staying that they should of delisted this year, but you can assume that they will be moved out next year.

When you have a really strong team list, you really have to think about how you make room for draftees. I guess we will be in that position within 2 years.

Next year, we will want to lose another 5-6 players, 3 in the ND, 1 in the PSD, 1-2 rookie elevations.

We have no imminent retirements left.

We always needs to have a supply of honest toilers who will never be stars to use as draft fodder. Reality of life.

Next year, Bannister, Saddington, Wiggins, Blackwell, Hartlett, Bentick, Benjamin, Cloke, Edwards and possibly Houlihan ... all the gun depending on how they go in 2008. I'd say 4 of them at least will do enough to secure another contract so 6 will go from that bunch.

It's no wonder he gets bagged all the time around here when the player rated highly enough by the MC to be top 4 B&F - yes who would have thought that from the way everyone here carried on all year- is rated that highly (by a moderator!)- and is apparently no better than a number of players yet to establish themselves in the team, let alone achieve a high B&F placing. I guess that B&F placing has made no difference to the way he's viewed around here by certain people and we can expect plenty more bagging to come.

Take a look at some of the other names I mentioned. Hardly in danger territory. I have just projecting the role they play vs our depth vs whether someone is indispensable or not.

I didn't bag Houlihan. I just think he hasn't found a clear role in the last few years due to the way he has been used. Even then I said 'possibly.'

I know you are a big fan but you swinging at shadows constantly and it is becoming hard to have any sort of theoretical discussion about anything involving Houla.

You're entitled to your opinion, as is everyone else here and if they want to call him names and abuse him, as happens all the time and you think that's fair game you can let it go on. I just think it's interesting that you've suggested that he, along with a number of other players who aren't exactly regular team members or had a high finish in the B&F, is on his last chance and if he doesn't perform better in 2008 will possibly be delisted. It seems as though you, along with many members of this board, thought he had a poor season in 2007, as evidenced all year by bagging, name calling and abuse - hardly reasoned, theoretical discussion. Yet according to the MC he had a season that was better than all but 3 players at the club. Interesting. Maybe one day this board will have theoretical discussions without resorting to bagging, name calling and abuse. I guess to you that's fair game but to me it isn't. I've since endured a series of quite personal attacks by a certain poster which continue even today, which you also regard as fair game. I was recently told by that poster to bugger off and I think I'd better take that advice as I'm not going to continue to put up with personal abuse directed at either myself or our players.

I do not like players being bagged period. I challenge you to find name calling on my part or endorsement of name calling. The fact remains though that I do not moderate according to my own standards, I moderate according to an accepted majority standard. If I took out every instant of player bagging, I will be accused of over moderation and I would be removing half of the debate on these boards. There would be moderators and there would be you and I would be getting a tap on the shoulder asking what the hell I have done to the traffic.

I have also messaged you my stance on personal abuse and what constitutes personal abuse. I am more liberal with Carlton supporters vs Carlton supporters and prefer to mediate rather than infract our own supporters as though they were opposition trolls. There is a line though and I ensure that line is not crossed.

It is not a perfect world BW and I do not get 100% enjoyment from the site either. I also cop far more substantial personal abuse than you do and wear it in the right context. Bringing up of past debates is not against the rules. We either debate them again if that happens or we say it has been done to death or we concede the point. If someone brings up something off topic, we have the option of simply saying 'irrelevant' and move on.

I Was reading inside Carlton Matthew Lappin played for Carlton 196 games 4 short of joining the 200 game club and having his Name on the locker :(

Re: Retirements/Delistings/Drafting/Promotions

I think you only need 100 games to get the name on the locker. Can anyone confirm?

Edit: Definitely only 100 games.
