Finals records

Saints 05,West coast 06,Collingwood 08 all at home should have won all 3

St. Kilda have only one one premiership, Collingwood has not won a premiership when we've been in the comp and West Coast were only formed in the 80s.

None of those would count!:thumbsd:

Makes perfect sense doesn't it?

2005 minor premier lost at home
2006 comming of a weeks break
2008 weakest Collingwood side we have ever seen

Try and defend it all you want our record in finals is one of the worst

I don't think anyone is defending the finals record, its very poor, BUT, your logic is baffling

A Finals win is a finals win, regardless of who its against

Just like a loss is a loss regardless

I'm not going to excuse 2005.

2006 was against a pharmaceutically enhanced Weagles outfit, while we were missing almost our entire forward line (all gone AWOL due to injury in the last month or so of the H&A season), not to mention all the other injured and underdone players we rushed back into the team. Things were also not helped by Biglands knee injury just before half time.

2008 was NOT the weakest Collingwood side we have ever seen. It was a Collingwood outfit which won 1 fewer H&A game than we did and were never more than 1 game ahead or behind us from R9 onwards. Heck, we were behind them on the ladder after R21 - and should have finished there if they'd bothered to turn up to Subiaco for their R22 game against the Shockers. The Collingwood side of 2008 were every bit as good as we were. None of which takes anything away from our team's abysmal lack of effort on the day.

Stop revising history. It's bad enough as it is, without you putting the worst possible spin on it.

And how did our gutsy win impact on our club?

Did it make us better, ready to take the next step?
They probably were (in 2006)..
  • If McLeod didn't get a bursa in his foot, causing him to miss R17 & R18, before missing R22 and the Qualifying Final when it got infected.
  • If Thomas hadn't destroyed Hentschel's knee in R21.
  • If Ricciuto hadn't contracted Parvovirus, causing him to miss every game from R21 onwards.
  • If Burton hadn't been underdone after missing the 5 games leading up to the Preliminary Final due to injury.
  • If McGregor hadn't missed the last 5 games of the season (injured or dropped?).
  • If Hart hadn't been injured on Black Sunday, missing the entire finals series (and ending his career).
Note that the list above includes our 3 leading goalscorers that year.

Our finish to 2006 was just a confluence of horrible events, which hit the club one after the other. The end result was inevitable. We went from being flag favourites to barely limping into the finals.

Concur fully.
