Finding a gem at Pick 30

He may have done what I did, got a new laptop so i took the opportunity. I was Skade previously.

Thought I recognised you, but couldn't think who...... So Skade will never post again? Shame, because I think the names take on a life of their own whoever may be behind them.

Considering Dave is ignoring every post that refers to him as Dave, I get the feeling he came with a new account because he didn't want people to know it was him.

Success

What about keeping pick 30 for LUKE BALL ?
If he stays at stkilda or gets picked up by another club before our pick then look at the unknowns in the draft.

You know what i think ,we have enough young developing talent in our side,it's time to pick up some solid types who may be around the mark so we can have a real push at the flag, instead of developing youngsters and swing round each year saying to ourselves oh wait for another two or so years till its our window of opportunity.

Our window is open NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TOP UP AND PUSH HARD FOR A FEW FLAGS,OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS.

if he"s available at pick 30 then we"ll take him, unlikely he"ll still be available though.

Fair enough.

I agree Snag.

You tend to look out for the "established/respected" posters moreso than the newbies once you understand and grasp the who's who on BF.

Which is why creating new accounts is strange, particularly if you don't want to be noticed. Can't say it has worked for Dave. :p

Done a bit more research on Temel, and it looks like 3rd-4th round type, but with a lot of potential. And he's a genuine pack mark type. He looks like the prospect Dawes should have been. I think would be a good look with our 4th rounder. We NEED a proper contested marking key forward. We don't have one at the moment. At this point I don't count Cloke as one, because he just doesn't seem to do it much, though he's shown the capability.

Good Call and He has taken a Contested Mark.

He Kicked 20+ Goals in the Finals which Mick Likes so I think he is Outside Chance at Pick 30

Serhat Temel will not be at Collingwood next season.

That, you can bank on.

He may have kicked some bags throughout the carnival and TAC Cup season, however, his acceleration, pace and stamina are terrible. So was his ground level ability.

As soon as he could not complete any mark on the lead, he was effectively out of the contest. His repeat efforts were simply non existant. He is a very late draft selection at best. Would not surprise me to see him be overlooked to be honest.

The prospects on our radar at selection 30 are Thomas, Taylor or Ball.

One of these guys will fall and be taken at pick 30 IMO.

You make Temel sound like a Complete Dud - Would you Rather Luke McDonald then if we go Tall in the Draft?

Do you know this as Fact or Just your Opinion? We could get him in the VFL Side if Overlooked;)

How do you know Pick 30 is out of Josh Thomas, Troy Taylor or Luke Ball?

I can't speak for his application, and therefore his stamina. But while he doesn't look like a freak athlete or anything, his pace and acceleration seem fine for his size in the highlights. Now maybe they drop off if his stamina is poor. The club will need to assess his application behind the scenes to determine whether he has the work ethic to overcome that.

However he has talent and physically looks very promising and seems to play like a genuine KPF. I am sick to death of watching these skinny arse kids at 195-196 that can run quick in a straight line get drafted high. I don't want a speedy 195cm KPP, I want a genuine tough big bloke that can cause some damage. If they can't run for long enough get them in the gym and on the park running to build it up.

Piss the skinny tall blokes off.

Spot on We don't want any more Like Reid we want a Big Body Forward and Knows how to use it

We won't be going tall with our first selection Dave unless it happens to be someone who falls into our lap and is overlooked in the first round and early second.

I am almost certain we have guaranteed to Josh Thomas we will select him in the National Draft, it is just a matter of when and where he fits in the puzzle.

If Luke Ball nominates for the national draft, it is in the hope of being selected by Collingwood, in which, we would be negligent to not take him if available after being prepared to offer up alot more than just selection 30 in trade week.

Troy Taylor is certainly on Hine's radar and could go as early as the first round IMO. Freo and WCE are monitoring him very closely with their earlier second rounders. Some doubts over his off-field issues which could see him slide because his on-field talents are impressive. If available at pick 30 though, Hine will pull the trigger (depending on Luke Ball scenario though).

Temel isn't a dud. He does have talent but his talents are those of a 4th+ round selection/rookie at the moment. His goal kicking seems very good, however, I have doubts about his complete game at AFL level which I have highlighted. I do not see him as a genuine AFL prospect.

Done some more research. Apparently the kid did not have a proper pre-season coming into the season, and has had weight issues, which he has worked to get under control. He can kick straight, has big hands and is a very good contested mark, and is big bodied. He plays a proper key forwards game, as opposed to most young KPF these days whom are skinny athletes that use their agility and pace to dominate the youth levels.

He has some flaws, mainly surrounding stamina, and perhaps second efforts, though going from that highlights package which admittedly hardly shows the whole picture, he seems to show a good aptitude when the ball is below his knees. Likely without those flaws he'd be a first rounder and out of our reach. So then with perhaps our fourth round pick, or later if we think he will drop that far, he sounds like exactly the type of project you want to take a chance on. Someone that could be a boom or bust. As opposed to the type that perhaps is more likely to make it, but you know will never be a star.

He fits the type of player I believe we need, and shows promise, therefore I don't see why we don't take him with the pick he's projected to. If it's 4th round so be it.

Also this is apparently a weak draft, therefore you would think reaching with draft picks wouldn't be so costly.

My thoughts exactly. The hype for Taylor on BF has been growing recently. Some are starting to put him in their top 10 in their Phantoms:eek:

Yeah I think a 1st Round would be a Big Risk for Taylor as he has Off Field Issues.

His his Profile:

Troy Taylor (NT) - Draft Profile

Height: 189cm
Weight: 77kg
Position: FP
Potential: 5-8/10
Style-like: Michael O’Loughlin

Strengths

> Excellent-freakish hands, ball handling and control at ground level and aerially
> Very smart forward player that has very good sense of what’s happening, positioning and nous I50
> Good vision and decision making ability with the ball
> Good pace, evasive ability and leap – don’t think DC results did his ability in each justice (some were very poor)
> Good user over the short range by foot – weights his passes very well
> High level of hurt factor

Weaknesses

> Poor running capacity/work-rate and hence limited in terms of AFL positions ATM – only 3rd tall I50 suits him ATM - possibly HFF/wing may open up if he increases his work-rate - whilst his impact is high when he gets the ball his involvement in games is low – he doesn’t get much of the ball both because of his role and presently low work-rate
> Doesn’t seem to offer much defensively

Other

> Extreme reach advantage for his height – arm length similar to very tall KPP/ruckman
> Skinny at present but should fill out into an OK build for his roles
> Has had run ins with law as a juvenile (robbery and assaults) including jail time – reports suggest he has turned the corner.

Overall

Taylor has some freakish abilities and upside to be a high quality and freakish 3rd tall forward, however there are areas of his game that will need to be addressed through hard work. At worst he may not fire a shot if he gets back into bad company, at best I think he could be a top 100 AFL player and a very tough match up as a 40+ goal per year medium forward. Worth a 2nd to 3rd round selection.

Jack Fiztpatrick experienced the rigours of playing in the AFL, if only for a week.

Most kids who play football share one thing in common, the dream to one day play for an AFL club.

That dream turned into a weeklong reality for Jack Fitzpatrick when he trained with the Collingwood Football Club during the preseason.

Fitzpatrick has played the last two seasons for the under 18s Western Jets and had the opportunity to train with Collingwood for a week through his scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sports.

“I was supposed to train with the group earlier this year but I suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome so I only could participate on a minimal basis,” Fitzpatrick told collingwoodfc.com.au midway through the week.

“I was disappointed that I didn’t get the full experience so I called Deka (head recruitment manager Derek Hine) and he said he could get me a week with the club during the preseason.”

Fitzpatrick arrived at the club on Monday and has had two sessions on the track with the team.

“The drills are fairly similar. The basic ideas are the same. The difference is the speed of the sessions and the skill level is considerably higher.”

That shows me we do have an Interest with Fitzpartick

I would be Happy to get him at Pick 30:thumbsu:

Fitzpatrick could go as high as first round or slip as low as 3rd. Very hard to judge. Would be a handy pick at 30 though you would think given he has potential as both a forward or ruckman. I think he has grown in height since that article and it sounds like Hine type pick.

I still hold hype for Luke Ball. I also wouldn't mind having a punt on Majik Daw with a later pick if available.

I think we should set pick 62 for Harris provided Ball is taken earlier or in the PSD.

Most sides will be passing between 62 and 78, so no real difference between the picks.

Sounds like the Pies are looking at Chris Irving:
Chris Irving (Seaford) - Mornington Peninsula Nepean League (Peninsula Division)

Seaford have won 3 consecutive premierships. Chris has won the Best & Fairest in 2008 and 2009. As well as the league best and fairest in 2008 and 2009.
He also got named captain in the Team of the Year in a pretty strong competition.
The only sticking point is he is 22.

^ I'd say that would be for the VFL team if anything, mind you I've been wrong on that front before with L Brown.
