Where do you people get all these test results.

Quigley. To wit:

Ben Lennon DOB 5/7/95 Ht 189 Wt 80

Lets start with probably the big issue. Of the flanker/midfield groups he would sit firmly at or very close to bottom for athleticism and very real questions have to be asked about whether he has the athletic ability to play at AFL level most especially in his preferred HFF role. Lets start physically. 189cm is pretty good for a midfielder but it is getting to be pretty average for a flanker and combine that with short arms and small hands and we are not off to a fantastic start in supposedly his strength area. Another thing which gets talked up is his explosiveness. Well he was bottom 20% (this includes rucks remember) over the first 5m of the 20m sprint and his back half was nothing out of the ordinary leaving him with a time in the 3.20 range. So pace and explosiveness are a cross. I will say that his repeat sprints were better but that only put him up into the average category.

I have seen show a good lateral movement to evade tacklers but I have also seen him get nailed by tacklers that I thought he should have been able to step around and so I was interested to see what he scored in the agility test. Bottom 5%. The only players who scored worse than him on the agility test were a few rucks and many of them scored better than him. I will say that I was surprised with the result. I had a big range in my mind where he could go but bottom 5% was well below where I thought he would end up. Beep in the mid 13s was nothing to write home about and a bottom 25% in the 3km was disappointing. A lot of the highlights for Lennon are him taking nice marks so jumping was expected to be decent at the very least. Well he was bottom 10% in the vertical and below 50% in each of the running jumps.

If I am honest I will concede that these results surprised me a lot. I did not expect him to be a stand out athlete but I did think he was probably going to be above average. He obviously plays better than he tests but these sort of athletic deficiencies are often found out at AFL level when playing against guys who are just as smart as you are as a footballer and are much superior athletes. So even before we start to look at his game there are big question marks.

Ben Lennon - below 50% all the jumps, 3.18 in the 20m, 8.95 in the agil (bottom 5%),13.62 in the beep, 25.25 in the repeat sprint.

His sprint time is better then i heard, i was told it was slower then crouch who was 3.25.

Who said that? Crouch's time was 3.25, that's true, but having a sprint time of over 3.25 would worry me greatly.

Not sure where i got it from. Just one of those things that you read somewhere. I've read that many draft profiles and phantoms over the whole internet keeps hard to keep track of what you've read and where.

Greg Williams would have had a sprint time of over 3.5 sec. Yet his mind worked 10x faster than those around him. Sometimes football brains >>>>> sprinting ability. You need a blend of both in the team The question is have we got a deficit of either?

Eh, we didn't draft those players because they weren't the best players at our pick, or went before our pick, not because we shy away from injury prone players. You shouldn't claim that we wont draft someone so definitively and make it sound like you're an expert when it is just your own opinion.
You are right.

Forget I said it

Looking like Lennon for me rather than freeman. We don't have an acute need for another running midfielder, however we do need to add an A grade mid size forward that we could also have luxury of running in midfield. I see Lennon as a hodge type even though he has rarely played forward since junior days ...a must if available

You spelt Fyfe wrong its spelt Acres ;)

I know but so could have every other team, we could have also got Beams and Hannerbery instead of Post. I've always wondered if anybody knows where FJ rated Fyfe in the 09 draft??

A lot of teams didn't really rate Fyfe. A 189cm FF isn't exactly eye-catching lol

His height, overhead marking ability, athleticism just screams Deledio but with agility. The other thing i love is he is far more versatile then everyone bar Scharnberg at our pick IMO, he can sweep across HBF and be a weapon, go through the midfield and would be a difficult HFF match up with his height, speed and marking.

His shoulders are a massive worry and a bit of a lack of exposed form also is a worry but I don't see him as a very big risk because at worse he'll be a very good half back but i see his future more like Ryan Griffen or Travis Boak.

Last year the docs said no to menzel after a 2nd knee reco and the lars surgery and his brother just did his 2nd (or was it 3rd?) knee. You have to back them in in these case's.

What injury did Acres have exactly? Does Acres have the speed of Deledio? Gee how good would it be to have a Deledio clone? We need more composed heads in our team, who make good decisions.

Troy Menzel looks a gem, but Vlastuin just looks better.

Not quite. Acres ran a 2.94 20 metre whereas Lids ran 2.90. Not much in it but he had a much faster time on the agility course then Lids. He is also a later in the year birthday which is usually a good thing.

He dislocated his shoulders, i'm not sure the exact details but he played through champs when he should have had surgery and they popped out a couple of times throughout the games but they put them back in and he went back on, so he is tough. He has had surgery since and it sounds like they've come up okay.

Acres had a slap tear in his shoulder and had it fixed after the champs. Richmond not interested in him from what I hear, don't know why but IMO he is more likely to go after their pick and before 20.

Cheers for the info. But you've broken my heart.

Still there was nothing about conca until the draft, even Reece didnt know how much we wanted him... so i'll hold onto that hope.
