weakness: one-on-one strength, one-on-one marking.Closing speed as a strength?!
Oh, Nightmare.
Someone in that draft write up totally F—-d up his strengths . He has no closing speed at all and runs like a sheplin pony and he is def not a reliable kick nor does he have one ounce of aggression for his size .He was ranked 10th, 6th and 11th (these are not their mock drafts, but rankings)

Even if he had turned out to be a good player for us, picking a KPD with kick 6 is horrible strategy when you can get them later. Heck, historically even in the rookie draft! So many revisionist experts. All draft previews had him top 10. We were desperate for a key back. Rendell was not even involved in draft recruiting at Collingwood that year and their first pick wasn’t until pick 40 anyway so they aren’t going to waste much effort on a guy like McAsey.

Forget the draft guru's at fox etc, surely our scouts who would / should have seen every game he played at least from U16'S prior to covid should have been able to benchmark these traits. If it was obvious he was not fast and was not strong in the contest why was he rated so high by them?Someone in that draft write up totally F—-d up his strengths . Apparently hawthorn (and geelong) had interest. We wanted Carlton’s future first as part of the deal because there was a risk hawthorn could jump ahead of us if we moved to pick 9.The fact we traded back from 4 to 6 and then tried to trade back again to Carlton's spot (at 9 I think) meant we would have been fairly certain no one else rated him where we had him.
George Kramer . Because you seem to avoid the facts on this every time it's mentioned, just wanted to make sure you read this postHe was ranked 10th, 6th and 11th (these are not their mock drafts, but rankings)

First off I am writing off Knightmare who I dont rate and his selection of McAsey at 6 backs that up.George Kramer . Because you seem to avoid the facts on this every time it's mentioned, just wanted to make sure you read this post
You don't rate the recruiters, don't rate the draft "experts". You are above them all. Shocked you aren't the head of recruiting & analysis for the AFL with your hindsight. McAsey is looking to be a bad pick, absolutely. Was he taken around the mark some club expected? Yes. Hindsight is not a part of the recruitment teams job. We needed a good KPD and SDK was not a viable option at 6.First off I am writing off Knightmare who I dont rate and his selection of McAsey at 6 backs that up.
Twomey 10 & 11, so what you are telling me we took him earlier than his rankings by these 2 blokes and at the pointy end of the draft thats a lot. Glad you presented these facts. In the end though, they all got it wrong, we just got it wrong the most, another fact.
Another fact, he is slow and has no mobility.
Another fact is languishing in the SANFL, not even playing the position we drafted him at.
Another fact, despite being short on key defenders, he is not even being considered.
Another fact, he is a dud pick.
Thanks for tagging me in,
Didn't he post on instagram that he was struggling mentally?
Wouldn't be the least surprised all considering.
Pressure of being a high draft pick in an underperforming team in a two team town. Pandemic, lock-downs, father seriously ill, injuries and not performing on field.
He must be hating football right now.
I didn’t say I don’t rate recruiters, just not ours. You don't rate the recruiters, don't rate the draft "experts". You are above them all. "FISCHER McAsey announced himself at the Under-16 Championships with a five-goal game against Vic Country but it is down back where he has caught the eye this year with the talented key defender winning All-Australian honours at the national championships following in the foot steps of current stars Alex Rance, Michael Hurley and Daniel Talia as a key defender where he proved a handful with his intercept marking and ability to also shut down his opponent. McAsey was arguably better playing against the best opposition with his average of six marks and 14 disposals higher than his NAB League output and despite not winning a lot of the ball he looked strong down back playing against the North Melbourne VFL team which was the catalyst for his impressive performance through the championships"
When we let Keath go both Doedee and Talia were healthy. The decision made sense then but with hindsight it looks horrible
Made me laugh at the time, Mego Red was arguing before the trade that Keath was worth a heap. When the trade came in no where near that, it was still a good result. The mental gymnastics to support the club by some is amusingIt was horrible at the time, and said as much (repeatedly)
He was an excellent player we had invested time and money into, that was just starting to come into his own.
On top of that, we gave him away to a rival for peanuts

“ his preference is to remain in one spot, rather than be moved around” if you didn’t know that for a young kid what the F… are you doing coachingRunning back with the flight of the ball and taking a courageous mark is the enduring image so far of Fischer McAsey’s young AFL career.
McAsey, now 21, took another eye-catching, contested grab on Wednesday.
It was during a match simulation at Crows training, where he was lining up with a B team.
It prompts questions: where is the third-year swingman at?
Adelaide is — at least publicly — buoyant about his progress.
So too is his manager, Robbie D’Orazio from Connors Sports, who says the full intention is for McAsey to be at the club next year and hopefully have a 10-year career there.
“The Crows have been really supportive,” D’Orazio told News Corp.
“I think he’s got a great opportunity.
“He’s working really hard on and off the field, and we’re seeing real improvement.
“Let’s not forget, these kids are young and not everybody’s going to make an impact straight away.
“Taller players, especially, take time.”
Wednesday’s impressive moments at training showed he was not only over the issue, but gave the Crows further confidence his best form was not far away.
“He’s really come on leaps and bounds over the first half of the season,” Adelaide senior assistant Scott Burns said midweek.
“He’s gone forward, a bit of a new lease on life.
“Watching training, you would’ve seen signs today where you thought ‘that’s pretty impressive’.”
Senior coach Matthew Nicks said on Friday that McAsey was well ahead of where he was 12 months ago.
“He’s training well, playing well,” Nicks said.
It is understood his preference is to remain in one spot, rather than be moved around, until he plays consistently at the elite level
“I like the way he attacks it as a forward, he’s got no fear when it comes to marking contests.
“We’re just trying to polish and refine that a little bit more now so it’s a bit more consistent.”
Off the field, McAsey has been working on his mindset and being more outspoken in the footy environment.
An introvert, he was initially a little uncomfortable with the tag of being the club’s highest ever draft pick until Riley Thilthorpe in 2020, before starting to tackle it head on.
He is said to have really improved his confidence and has a happy life balance, which is helping his football, particularly over the past six weeks.
At his best, McAsey has bucket hands.
Wednesday’s mark was just one passage of play in a single match simulation against teammates at a midweek training in June.

The CROWS have left him in the one role .....that's not to say, he won't change to a different role permanently“ his preference is to remain in one spot, rather than be moved around” if you didn’t know that for a young kid what the F… are you doing coaching
Form first, then you can start moving them around once his confidence is upThe CROWS have left him in the one role .....that's not to say, he won't change to a different role permanently
As McAsey gets older, he'll handle mid match role changes more easily
Take Harry Himmelberg yesterday .....played the first 3 Qtrs as a key DEF ....in the last, played Ruck & CHF
You still need flexibility with your talls ....just not, when starting your career
Didnt stop the Hawks from using pick 6 in 2020 on a kpdEven if he had turned out to be a good player for us, picking a KPD with kick 6 is horrible strategy when you can get them later. Heck, historically even in the rookie draft!
lets not forget everyone wrote Dood off because he didn't play in his first couple years.
