Fletcher could miss eight weeks

X-rays have confirmed Dustin Fletcher has a cracked left fibula with further scans tomorrow to determine the length of time the champion full back will be sidelined. Fletcher sustained the injury when he was tackled early in the third quarter.
The best case scenario for Fletcher is that the crack is hairline which would sideline him for about a month. If the scans reveal more significant damage, the Bombers could be without Fletcher for the next eight weeks.
On a positive note, Mark McVeigh will attempt to push himself up for selection this week. McVeigh has been struggling to shake an ankle injury but is some sort of chance of lining up against the Hawks.

Re: Fletch to miss 4-8 weeks

I just got back to Melbourne for the match. Sitting there i was thinking whatever could go wrong was going wrong. Really bad luck for Fletch.

An absolute disaster of a night.:thumbsd:

Re: Fletch to miss 4-8 weeks

Horrible news, our qurater back and the 'chop out' man that would have assisted the young KPP's so much.

Darcy, Cale, Tayte and Michael lets see who can stand up!

Re: Fletch to miss 4-8 weeks

Expect some pain over the few weeks lad.

But the positive is our young backline will be learning and getting experience in spades. Short term pain for long term gain over the next month I think.

At least all these other BF flogs might have to change the record, cos if they are still later in the year saying we rely fully on Fletcher, Lloyd and Lucas, then they are even more full of shit tan they are now, lol.

Re: Fletch to miss 4-8 weeks

Can you believe that he actually broke his own leg. Showed on the footy show that he kicked himself while being tackled.

Gotta feel sorry for the bloke. Hopefully he can fight back and play on next season like he said he would.

Not looking like a fun 4 weeks.

Re: Fletch to miss 4-8 weeks

On the upside you are lucky it is a crack not a full break. Roger Hayden broke his leg and missed a year and half of football and was 2 years before being back to where he was before. Nathan Brown of course has never been the same.

Re: Fletch to miss 4-8 weeks

It begs the question: was there any talk to let Fletcher know he was hot? Because he was very slow to kick, obviously didn't realise the tackle was coming. In my playing days it was a bit of a sin not to talk to your teammate in that situation.

Re: Fletch to miss 4-8 weeks

Huge loss. Shame we couldn't win for him last night.

The plus side is that a young player gets a great opportunity to fill his position a play on a key forward in the next 6-8 week period which is invaluable experience for someone like Pears or Daniher.

Totally agree with this. NLM chip kicks to Fletch 10-15 metres ahead of him and gives him no help with some talk.

Re: Fletch to miss 4-8 weeks

Yep - worst news possible (of course it is being Essendon).
6 - 8 weeks.

Which means he will be out for 10-12. Might be able to return with Gumbleton perhaps in rd 18.

Re: Fletch to miss 4-8 weeks

On SEN they just mentioned that scans have revealed its only a hairline fracture (not as bad as first thought).

Will hopefully only miss 3-4 weeks. Great news considering

Oops - was given the wrong info.

Only a fracture. Looks like 3-4 weeks.

ok, I know it's a shit source, but our work have some crappy station on the radio, gold fm or some such crap; but they just had a piece on the end of the news saying Fletcher's scan came up better than expected, and he'll only miss 3 weeks.

I've checked EFC web for confirmation, nothing yet, but here's hoping!!

Any confirmations, post here

On the radio (4pm news) they said that it will only be three-four weeks. That's great news.
I don't think we could of picked a worst month for him to miss though.
Well i'd say we are practically written off for the next 4 games anyway. (not richmond)
Would be great to see our young guns play.
But of course, essendon with fletch annihilates essendon without fletch.

i wouldnt say they are a right off, i give us a chance versus the hawks however our forward line would need to offer a lot more.

the main thing that fletch brings to the team is leadership, it seems as though the club is strongly considering moving lucas back into defence, thats the leadership quandry solved, as for fletch's great kicking out of defence we have hurley who can come back in. i think we will be ok if we dont get any more injuries down back
