Religion Folau

No, I think he was assessing the worth of the current lives of a few hundred million people. What a jerk, to be honest.

He clearly passed judgement - strictly forbidden by baby Jesus himself. He shouldn't do it by his own religious belief system. By virtue of this fact, your argument that he is doing his religious duty is false.

He didn't pass any judgement. You'll notice how he doesn't have the power to send anyone to hell.

How very Christian of him.

Rich man, temple of god, eye of needles etc etc.

The HUN has a video now of him preaching at his church getting stuck into the Catholics and other Christians over celebrating Easter and Christmas amongst other things.

One has to wonder how much people use culture to mask their lack of moral compass when it comes to other people.

Raised in a culture that treats women like animals, I would like to think some people have enough humanity in them to realise thats disgusting behavior, but humans are a weird species.
It raises the question of cultural verses intrinsic human morality.

I've been watching a lot of documentaries lately on occupied Europe during world war 2 and so many personal accounts of people telling how the jews were marched off and they could hear gunshots for days as thousands are killed in pits, yet nobody does anything.

I think humanity has a far more malleable drive for right than we would like to admit.

Actually - there is a whole heap of minorities that can be afforded criticism (or not).

In fact I mentioned two others. You just clung to 1 - that in itself is interesting.

As we saw last week - eating a democracy sausage at the election in a few weeks is highly offensive to a small minority of Australians. However that minority is dismissed. Yet when other minorities are offended - we launch into a social defence.
Not really. I am just wondering why you prefer to talk about everything other than this item specific to this thread. I used one example because I am lazy.

Part of your problem, if you don't mind me offering, is that you assume there is a one size fits all approach to any group labelled "minority". There isn't, so asking why things are different for different minorities is like asking why skinny people aren't fat shamed.

That's bull. The ability to send anybody to hell wasn't there when baby Jesus specifically prohibited judging others. He judged the people he was referring to as being sinners who will go to hell. There is no other way to describe it.

You are twisting and turning again to defend him.

We tend to avoid conflict at all costs, and our survival instincts will tell us to keep out of stuff that could potentially harm us...Some people are wired less so and will step in to stop such things. Those are true heroes.

The dudes name is Israel. Maybe he's more of an Old testement guy.

For starters - I already have.

Folau targets me in his rant (probably more than once). I just simply don't judge myself on what Folau has to say.

The bloke has views well out of step with what I believe - and whilst we have the right to freedom of speech free of the fear of imprisonment, all rights come with responsibilities. I have no issue with him being sacked or ridiculed.

And just on your example - actually - what I was highlighting is that is not socially acceptable to fat shame someone, but it is socially acceptable to criticise skinny women.

But as soon as a "protected minority" is mentioned - rabid defence comes up. The same defence that is not afforded others.

You yourself clung to one protected minority.

Lol, true. I do keep forgetting how Christians will cherry pick from the superceded old rules when it suits their bigotry. Even if it means contradicting the teachings of their namesake.

Again, I'm not actually defending him. I'm just opposing you, who is attacking him.

There's a difference everywhere except the internet and unintelligent discourse.

To be fair, Christmas and Easter are pagan festivals, they shouldnt be practiced by anyone truly devoted to the Catholic or Christian God.

For starters, Eggs and Rabbits have nothing to do with Jesus, they are fertility symbols the Pagans used during their religious rituals. And Christmas I cant recall right now but I think it was the Summer Solstice or something? Rome were the ones initially to change the Pagan observations into Catholic ones in order to better integrate their population to a more manipulable belief system.

Winter solstice, yes.

The main crux of this whole situation is that Israel Folau is a role model to many young kids who love watching him play. Social media is a platform they can use to follow his adventures in life. Him announcing these types of things starts small but significant thoughts in developing brains. A lot of the things he listed we know are wrong. But there are things he listed which are not. The danger lies in his influence helping breed another potential generation of ignorance and hate in a society desperate to evolve beyond our current issues.

I think the reaction has sort of hit that nail on the head already.

Australia is very gay friendly.

On the current issues, it continues to stagger me just how many don't understand the concept of freedom of speech.

Exactly, he’s free to say what he wants. But there’s always consequences.

If you have a contract from an employer who is paying you a lot of money, with a condition not to publicly say things that contradict their stance on a social issue, and you choose to ignore that then of course there will be consequences.

An employer you freely entered into an arrangement with too, it couldn't be a more fair circumstance.
