Came here hoping to see the redneck bogans defending Folau and I wasn't disappointed.

Not really. Senator Frasier Anning seems to be doing alright.
Just seems to be certain public figures with certain opinions more then a blanket rule for all you will find.

So what you’re saying is that the silent majority don’t believe there should be sport on a Sunday, we should all be allowed slaves, eating rabbit is wrong, no sex outside marriage and all the other weird rules of Christianity.Being cowed into silence does not equate to being a minority view.

His views are archaic, even within Christianity.
What's interesting is these supposed free speech warriors were either nowhere to be seen when yassmin made her Anzac Day post a couple of years, or if they were seen it was to demand she be sacked. Their hypocrisy is staggering, but completely expected. It’s almost like you have no idea how free speech works.
My wife is a teacher. If she went on Facebook and wrote “student x is a dickhead” she would get sacked.
Free speech simply means that the government can’t arrest you for an opinion. (Slander, libel, inciting violence and a few other things excepted)
But it doesn’t mean that you can’t get fired, mocked, jeered. And it certainly doesn’t mean your opinion needs to be respected.
Free speech relates to the public sector only. We’re talking private sector. Hell, you can lose your job with the wrong haircut if you’re unlucky enough to have a shit boss.
The code of conduct is related to your employment. If you called told a gay guy on the street to go to hell, do you expect to be fired from your job?
after Christianity next two religions in oz are Islam and Buddhism at 2.6 and 2.4%. “Big religions” indeedChristianity is diverging and losing ground. You don't see the other big religion bowing to political pressure.
If you don't believe in heaven or hell then how the hell can you be offended by someone saying you are going to hell?
*insert something you cant change* are going to *insert something horrible*If you don't believe in heaven or hell then how the hell can you be offended by someone saying you are going to hell?
Thats her name- yeah I was gonna use that example but couldn’t scrounge up her name. What's interesting is these supposed free speech warriors were either nowhere to be seen when yassmin made her Anzac Day post a couple of years, or if they were seen it was to demand she be sacked. “Go to hell” is a pretty obvious and blatant insult that explicitly implies a whole lot of contempt and hate, fairly obvious really
Because, once again, it obviously implies that the person telling you to “go to hell” fairly hates you. Lot of people have probably heard it from family when they came out. And the long history of violence and oppression that the church has over homosexuality... many reasons to be angered by it.With religious overtones. Once again, if you don't subscribe, why can't you simply laugh it off?

The whole “laugh it off” is such a white dude kinda argument. You see it used everywhere. “Laugh it off of someone calls you a fellow” “laugh it off if someone calls you a ***” “laugh it off if someone calls you an ape/a ****/tells you you’re going to hell” etc etc.
I’m a straight white dude myself, like I assume you are, so we’ve never had to laugh it off. I would imagine you get tired of laughing it off.
Edit: the n word has a filter! TIL
If I was in the public spotlight and my employment had a policy explicitly stating I represent that brand and to not tarnish the name of the brand on social media or in public and then I went out and did it, then was lucky enough to get a warning, then went and did it again... I’d have to be the dumbest person in the world to expect not to get fired.
Do people just like arguing for the sake of it, it’s pretty clearly a losing argument to be on the side that he can say whatever he wants that offends a heap of people whilst being employed in the public spotlight, receiving a warning and then breaching the employers code again and somehow expecting NOT to be fired.
Laughable.

He is allowed to have a religious belief. He just can’t air the weirder parts publicly- not due to the government, but due to his private contract- which he willingly signed!Seems like a pretty wide ranging bullshit clause if you ask me that you or me do not have in our lives nor do the other 99.9% of the world. You can word that clause however you like but the effect of it is this
Israel Folau is not allowed to have a religious belief
Whether you think that is right or not is up to you. I believe it is not right

I would get upset because it implies that the person thoroughly hates me. It’s not like he’s trying to reach out to save these people, is he?You're avoiding the point. Why would you get upset if someone tried to insult you by telling you to go to a fictitious place?
It's very common nowadays to take the piss out of religion (except for one, which might cost you).
Why cant you focus on what Issy said, homosexuals are going to hell. Trying to frame the argument to suit your bigoted views.
What dont you get?? It’s discrimination
I wonder if Israel likes seafood.
Let me give you another example:
I worked for one of the two major domestic airlines in this country until last year. And there was a contract clause that forbid staff from entering a bottle shop, a licensed premises and/or purchasing or consuming alcohol whilst in company attire, regardless of whether or not you were within the scheduled hours of employment. Repeat breaches of this clause were grounds for termination.
You can agree or disagree with that, or with Folau's post, or argue his right to have an opinion.
The point at issue is simply whether he breached his employment contract and whether that contract is valid and enforceable.
Edit: nice job trying to play the Islam card. There’s a lot of very prominent conservatives that earn a lot of money screaming “IM NOT ALLOWED TO SAY THIS” to packed audiences, in high paid newspaper columns, everywhere on the internet and they do just fine.
