just had a mate at the races send a flick of him with fev, with fev being there in a betnation shirt

given how well documented and public fevola's problems were with gambling i think its pretty disappointing that he would jump onto the list of afl players selling out to shill them in a very public fashion, having also seen him in gambling ads across social media. makes me think less of him than i already did

is there a prominent (ex) player who has taken a strong and vocal stance against gambling?

Do you mean a Lions player or players in general?

David Schwarz is probably the most vocal anti gambling ex-player I can think of.

He was but also worked on SEN with so many other gambling shills and ads, that to be honest it was hard to take it seriously

Schwartz made a point of never doing any betting related ads, mentioning them as sponsors, etc. He told SEN management he would never do it and given the circumstances they were ok to excuse him from doing it

Schwarz was the opposite and was the spokesperson for Gamblers help.
He would take leave from SEN when the spring carnival was on. Wouldnt even buy raffle tickets at the local footy, just gave the person $10 or whatever as a donation.

Having worked for ALH for many years, anything RSG was purely lip service.

He did but also sat in the booth while they were still happening. He talked about the negatives but also enabled the gambling as well. Really the whole industry is just so sickenly connected

It's taken Carlton 10 years and a fistful of dollars to recover since they sacked Ratts.

He's never been one to grease up to the glory seekers wherever he's been.

But the players love him. I'd be surprised if their review said otherwise.

Honestly they pinned so much on Hanneberry and Hill which was laughable, we've just gotten through Covid and yet further GC Suns concession years, and they sack this bloke. You know how you can get these guys into the game and make the clubs relevant? Stop changing the ****ing rules every year

My Uncle passed away last week, been a Lions member since the 40s. Roys coterie member and player sponsor. Whilst this would have taken somebody at the club 5 maybe 10 minutes to do. I know it would have meant the world to him. Dunno if Lions_Insider is still around, but a big thank you to the club

Sorry to hear about the passing mate, hope your doing okay with it all and remember to speak out on here or with family and friends in the real world, if your finding stuff too much to handle at times with everything in your life, as a result of the passing of your uncle last week  :thumbsu:

Saw I had a lot of notifications and thought I may have done something wrong! Anyway, Part 2 here we go.

Here is some real random stuff.... the football teams I played for:
Lions and Panthers in the YMCA Little League at South Barwon Common in Geelong.
Geelong College (very good player when I was younger, but ended up being in the 2nds only, being 18 at the time didn't help with game preparation)
When I was a uni student, University Blues (struggled) and Ormond College (captain of the 2nds) then Queens College (1sts team finally, while I was a tutor there). May be should have played for the Uni Reds and I would then be part of the Fitzroy family.
Didn't play when I lived in the USA (no footy then but did kick to kick with other Aussies at Arizona State when we could) and Brisbane (first time)
Singapore Wombats (when I joined BigFooty I was still playing but struggled after turning 40 and went to umpiring)

I still wish I could play and share the high and even the lows of those moments with mates.
