Contender for the worst list in AFL media history

Who is Sam Taylor ?

1. Clayton Oliver
2. Sam Walsh
3. Andrew Brayshaw
4. Zac Bailey
5. Harry McKay
6. Hugh McCluggage
7. Luke Jackson
8. Max King
9. Callum Mills
10. Starc/Tom Green

Darcy Parish is a stat plodder

Sam Taylor is a very good young key defender for GWS, rate him. But I wouldn't have him that high up in my list.

Better than Weitering?

Obviously not, I said that Taylor wouldn’t be that high on my list of top young players. But I don’t think it’s insane to have Taylor in a top 20-25.

25 is pretty old for a group too, way too many players fit in the bracket.

Just a guess, but under 25 would probably represent nearly 3/4 of the players out there.

I like Taylor, but it’s pretty clear that was a GWS special from his old teammate.

Every AFL club’s biggest statistical change for 2022 — and how it explains the ladder: Champion Index

BRISBANE LIONS

Metric:
Defensive 50 to Inside 50

2021: 21.0% (#10)

2022: 26.8% (#1)

They‘ve arguably been the best offensive team in the AFL for the past four years, with the Lions again ranked No. 1 for points scored after six rounds. Now the Lions are moving the ball more efficiently coast-to-coast — in fact better than any other team in the competition. Skipper Dayne Zorko’s move into defence appears to have helped, while Noah Answerth has again cemented his spot in the senior side to have a significant impact in defence.

I got used to Thursday Night footy very quickly and am missing it in the fixture already. Not a single one rostered throughout May :( hope they bring it back in June.

We've got some really interesting games in this bunch:

Round 12 - Lions vs Dockers in Perth
Round 13 - Lions vs Saints at the Gabba
Round 15 - Lions vs Demons at the MCG

Would think at least the latter two are locks for Thursday/Friday night slots. We've often been relegated to Sundays in Perth, but with the Dockers firing that may be a Saturday night too.

Round 12-15 times out tomorrow:

Surely Round 12, Freo vs Brisbane will be a chance of Friday night under normal circumstances but it will probably go to Melbourne vs Sydney

Round 13, Home vs St Kilda should be Friday night, won't be because AFL hates non-Vic Friday night games. Saturday night is my guess.

Round 14 is a bye

Round 15 we are away to Melbourne, should be Friday night again, I suspect this one will be.

Big few weeks for us!

Made worse by the Lions having two late Sunday games in a row. Two top four teams

Once we have proven our ability and watch-ability by making top 2 8 years in a row they will consider rewarding our performance via the television fixturing protocols ... after taking into account the required pre-existing commitments to tradition, anticipated advertising revenue, likelihood of inspiring journalistic feedback, geographical distance from Melbourne, and level of interest to the PTB of the House. Should we miss top two at any point during those years (note we are currently out of the two so not immediately relevant) unfortuntately the system will have reset our application for relevance back to zero.

I thought the whole point of the delayed fixture was to schedule form teams / big games in the best time slots.

Next minute, Essendon has 3 Friday night games in a row..
Its a bit of a joke, the big Vic teams getting the friday night games no matter how they are doing on the ladder.

Freo definitely deserve more Friday night games with the footy they are playing.

What happened to the whole point of the floating fixture?

Please don't turn this into another unending whining session,

But good on Benny. Like Robbo and Lyons and Zorko and Adams ...., changing clubs fitted or fired up their determination to be their best.

If Benny gets the Brownlow (long way to go, and pretty hard to win it if your team doesn't make the eight) I will cheer like crazy for him, while cheering even louder for the lions finishing top four, and having another chance at a premiership.

Second chance players are my favourite type. No silver spoon, no pathway laid out for them, just sheer hard work and bloody mindedness. And sometimes body mindedness only kicks in after a perceived kick in the guts.

Anyone aware why we haven’t trained at the Gabba the past couple of weeks? Just judging by lions social media we’ve been at some of our pre-season training venues.

What the AFL says: our new, flexible fixturing model will allow us to respond and reward form, providing equitable access to the exposure and monetary benefits of primetime slots.

What the AFL does: gives 16th place Essendon three more Friday night games and schedules the minnow clubs on the Sunday twilight slot where they belong.

Usually, Gabba sessions are only the last run before a home game. Unsure whether they've been keeping to that recently.
