Just been thinking that it won't be long before all players will be required to wear head gear, not to just try to protect the head but to include accelerometers to measure head knocks; for the tribunal. The optics of enforcing helmet use will be the best defence against the public perception of the current concussion lawsuits, and will provide a new stream of revenue with helmet branding/designs.
Don't they still get concussions etc in the NFL?

Yes, from what I have read helmets don't do much other than stop cuts, bruises. Concussion is about the brain moving back and forth in the skull, helmets don't stop that. Some have said that having a helmet can give you a false sense of security and make you more reckless re where you put your head.

Saucery did mention measuring impact force and that would probably be a good thing to do, perception as well... perception sometimes trumps reality.

This has certainly been the case in cricket. Look at how many more batters get hit in the head now compared to say the 90s.

Oh yes definitely, I have followed cricket since I was a boy and batters rarely suffered serious head injuries although there was an unwritten rule that you didn't bounce the tail. This was also around the time the West Indies had a fearsome pace attack, also Thommo and Lillee.

Rick McCosker getting a badly broken jaw is one I remember from the Centenary Test.

Yep they dont watch the ball.

Players literally lead with their head in the NFL.

Those martial arts moves where you take the momentum of an opponent and redirect them into a different, controlled by you direction ... are they allowed in our game? If somone reached out to tackle you and you got their arm and swung them in an arc like a human shield taking out three of their mates and released them into the belly of the fourth and then disposed of the ball - how would that be treated?

I have enjoyed First Crack but my patience is wearing thin.Tonight Ling and Montagna agreeing that we are showing some form but need to beat some decent teams.Apparently our wins against Melbourne and Collingwood have been memory holed.
Secondly whilst St Kilda are playing really well, and I am a Ross Lyon fan ,they basically did the same thing last year. Not so said the panel it's much better this year for reasons never articulated.
I feel I lost 10 IQ points.

I read that as marital arts. Talk about let’s get physical.

Whateley and King do their running weekly seedings every Monday, both said Demons and Magpies are a lock for the top 2 seeds.

King had Lions at 3 and Saints at 4.
Whateley had Saints at 3 and Lions 4.

Mmmm! What do the top 2 seeds have in common?
Well ... they both have an 'e' and an 'm' in their names which the Lions and the Saints do not...

Well I suppose it could be that they have both been defeated by the Lions ... nah that would be too easy!

They both play more than 1 o 2 games at the G each year

currently we are behind collingwood, melbourne and geelong with the bookies

we've already shown we can take it to melbourne and collingwood. melbourne we know we can beat at the mcg too.

fingers crossed we wont have to play on mickey mouse football ground kardinia park all year, only playing geelong at home

lets keep flying under the radar and build into the season ready to explode in the back end

It has turned out that we have a pretty tough draw this year.

Magpies x 2 - Marvel Stadium in round 23 to come, why it's not at the MCG is a mystery.
Demons x 2 - MCG in round 18 to come.
Saints x 2 - Marvel Stadium in round 15, the Gabba in round 24.
Crows x 2 - Adelaide Oval in round 11, the Gabba in round 22.

Also have the Dockers and Suns x 2 which should be 4 more locked and loaded wins to come.

Some big games at the Gabba to come as well - Bombers round 9, Swans round 14, Tigers round 16, Cats round 19.

Until we beat them at the MCG again, we won't be rated by the 'experts'. You would be a fool not to have Geelong in your Top 4.

Check out how soft Melbourne and St Kilda's draw is comparatively. TBF to Saints they werent in top 8 ut given there position now, are in a pretty sweet space with a not to difficult draw. How Dees got their easy draw is anyones guess tho
Yer the assessment of the toughness of the draw is always done in hindsight, not many would have predicted the Saints and Crows performing this well... perhaps it doesn't last.

And that's actually reasonable. We have to be able to win against to sides at the MCG and Marvel.

Too easy to get overawed in finals without the confidence of been here, won that.
