What a blunder by the AFL. We have a far stronger victroian contingent than clubs like GWS, yet we get relegated to Marvel against one of the Victorian powerhouses.

I may be imagining this but didn't the Lions sign an agreement with the AFL that would see them playing the majority of their Melbourne-based away games at Docklands, not long after the ground was opened? I seem to recall the club saying that Docklands would be the club's home ground in Melbourne, or words to that effect.

Assuming this is right, I've no idea if the agreement would still be in effect, just putting it out there as a possible reason/explanation.

We did have a Melbourne office physically located at the Docklands stadium for a bit. That may have been the link.
