A few of things from last night's game.
1. Wallace is back. Different team, same game-plan.
2. Deledio and Tambling will be good. No ifs or buts. Not this year obviously, but both top shelf.
3. Eddie is biased as all hell and should not commentate Collingwood games. Comments like Ooo, that was definitely too high will only get opposition players suspended. Calls umpiring decisions against Collingwood and not against opposition. Later he tries to smooth things over, but in the heat of it he is commentating as a regular fan would. Get out of there Eddie.
4. Yeah!! The slow season is over.

EDIT: Message to AFL. The new 10m circle for ruckman sucks. Get rid of it. Just go back to how it was five years ago. Stop mucking with the rules every five minutes.

Yes thankgod footy is back!!!

Some notes from last nights games:

1 - I didnt think Richo was carrying much extra weight...in fact to me it looked like he lost a lot of what Frawley told him to put on last year. SImmonds however looked massive.

2 - Deledio and Tambling will be good as PAF said. I had my doubts on Tambling, but he showed last night he should become a very good player in the future. Id expect him to play a part this year for the Tiges. Deledio reminded me of a mini-Coughlan at this point. I expect him to have lesser impact this year.

3 - Altho Collingwood hit back and won in the last few minutes I dont think they played overly well and didnt really look like they had come forward from last year.

4 - Now you cant even swear on the footy field? "Gosh ref, can you please give me a detailed description on what that infringement was for?" sounds a lot more ridiculous than "What the ******** was that for?".

5 - Josh Carr in a Freo guernsey makes me ill. But he is still the same little prick he was with us which is good to see.

6 - Playing Sandilands in the goalsquare. If Freo persist with that then i cant see them kicking too many winning scores. Just cant mark.

7 - West Coast looked dangerous. Stenglien played very well for them last night and some young kids really stepped up. Waters kicking 3 goals in a quarter out of FF...dont think many would have expected that. Lynch back at FF...if he can take some marks and kick goals will be pretty dangerous. Hansen moves well but just couldnt mark a lot that came his way but obviously has talent. Liked McConnell in the midfield too. Butler was missing and Kerr and Judd played mainly outside the midfield...scary.

8 - Pavlich looked ok as expected up forward but i thought he moved around far too much. He'll be buggered by round 10 if he plays like that every week, as basically a rover playing out of CHF.

No, c'mon. In that jumper, with his gut sticking out, Richo looked like the return of Rick Davies.

He might not have beaten them, but he definitely has eaten all the pies.

Can only agree with everything you've said there PAF - spot on.

That was my impression too. He just looked like he was carrying a bit extra and he was just too bloody slow in his movement.

Agree with *PAF on everything he said including the bloody ruck circle. If the AFL want to bring in that ridicilous rule them they better bloody make sure that umpires are capable of bouncing the ball straight up. This is turning into a bloody circus and I am not happy

spot on - that was my first impression........early days but my kneejerk reaction is that nothing has changed at Tigerland

Its still too early to expect any real changes at Tigerland despite popular belief of Tiger fans who believe they are a top 8 side

I REALLY like the look of Tambling and Deledio though. Some real class in those two fella. Shattered to see Schulz go down with a suspected broken ankle :(. Been following this lad for a while now.

Tambling looks very Wells like - he needs to try and keep out of traffic though until his body matures a bit.......certainly puts his head over the ball.

I couldn't help but think of The Count when I was watching Tambling last night.......I think if the player is smart enough and zippy enough - they can use their agility to stay out of trouble ........so having such a slight body may not be an issue.

Thats what I LOVED about him. For such a slight lad he doesn't take backward step and puts his head over the ball. If it there he will go for it. Puts to rest those views that he is just another outside midfielder with pace.

from what I saw last night I agree that its the same old wallace - mind you I think Richmond looked a lot smoother this year than last (except the last 10 minutes )

I thought the umpiring was actually good apart from a couple of bad ones

regarding swearing - I think they shouldn't swear - i know that sounds really pathetic coming from a guy but I played Union for two years - you couldn't back chat and you wouldn't swear because it always resulted in a penalty - the result is a much better spetecale (ok in the case of under age it just meant people didn't become animals on the field and 17 yr olds weren't abusing 30 yr old umpires) there is a lot more respect given to the umpire - considering the job they have to do they deserve it !

Eddie is a complete ******** - he is so obvoiusly bias it isn't funny, does anyone remeber the incident when he kept going back to it - I think someone had got taken out - he just kept repeating "that was a bit high: or "I cant believe the umpire missed it"

Those richmond youngsters were pretty impressive - although they picked up on that richmond trait (hiding when the ******** hits the fan)

apart from that good game first off !

Just got back from watching Hawthorn V St Kilda

Some observations:

1. St Kilda ARE A CLASS SIDE

2. St Kilda are HUGE - don't even try and compare Adelaide to them - they
are the new Brisbane as far as physique - continually knocked Hawthorn
players off their feet.

3. Hawthorn will finish bottom no problems - no height to match it with most
sides, but their heart was fantastic.

4. Put a good player in a s..t club and you get an ordinary player
Put that same player in a good team and watch him transform - cmon
down Fiora - and who said he couldn't put on weight  or was it
just Richmond?

It's great to see footy back, and I can't wait for tomorrow. :)

A few thoughts:
- Richmond have improved and should improve more over the next 22 games. I think they'll finish between 14-16 because of their lack of depth, but players such as Deledio and Tambling clearly showed last night that there is something to watch for Tigers fans.

- Deledio is a gun. I've watched a few of his games this year for Vic Country, and damn, the skills of this kid are unbelievable. Has pace, size, strength, is good overhead and great under pressure. Last night he gave us a glimpse of what is to come in future years.

- Collingwood are in for a very bad year if last night was anything to go by (though the same could be said for St.Kilda). They were woeful in front of goal, something the likes of Tarrant will need to fix up.

- Chad Morrison was pretty impressive last night. A good pickup from what I've seen as has boosted their stocks.

- Simmonds and Richo are perhaps "too big" right now. Richo moved like a drunk sloth and had a gut that pointed north, and Simmonds moved like had no legs. Perhaps it was just an off night for them.

- West Coast will be very, very exciting to watch this year. Just watching Beau Waters kicking 3 goals in one quarter makes me appreciate the development of young footballers.

- Hawthorn have showed that they will be harder this year, but their skills are still very ordinary. Some good signs shown however by the likes of Dixon, Beaumont, etc.

There were some big units out there. The Saints sure did go in hard early.

I agree with you - I would'nt compare them to the Crows and that's been one of our problems for a while.

After hearing about how our blokes have been hitting the weights, I'm a little underwhelmed that the best some our young guys can put on is 3 kilos. Some of the Saints guys must have put on double that (and possibly more).

I liked Harry Miller's game tonight. Why the Channel 10 team didnt talk him up, I don't know but he worked hard tonight.

that is a good point on the saints, they have recruited quite a few brisbane players so obviously some of the weights tips have been passed on. why aint the crows doing the same thing, we have the money to find out i would have thought....

G'day All,

My first post and I am agreeing with a Power bloke!!

Anyway I think Eddie doing Collingwood games is hard to take - he's ok with other teams though!

Re the ruck circle - interesting there are those against it and then Walls comes out and raves about it!!

Cheers

Agree completely - I was expecting to see some noticable change in our Physiques.

Sadly not much difference at all - typical PS hype that we get from the club.

But St Kilda was noticable right across the team - every player looked noticably heavier

Cmon Adelaide what are you doing - Skippy just won't cut it against these guys :(

Yeah St Kilda had some big bodies out there. Weve all heard about Goddard putting on 10 kilos in the off season and he does look masive now. Seems a touch slow but hes about as big if not bigger than Hamill now. Will be interesting to see how Fiora goes this year. With some top support around him now he could become a bit of a game breaking outside midfielder. Mcgough as well...ive always rated him reasonably highly (dunno why a lot of Collingwood fans gave him a hard time) and he could be great as a down and dirty midfielder for the Saints.

They do look daunting. Scary even. And Gehrig was in the stands.

Hawks did better than i thought. Hodge played well. It was great to see Hotrod Harry play well too.

Howdy Nige_Bix....welcome :)

The jury is out on the ruck circle IMO...I'll have to see a few more games before making a comment.

As for agreeing with *PAF.......he reminds me of an old bitter and twisted poster that used to hang around here alot....... :D ........(he's better than most).. ;)

Turn it up MD.
If anybody nominates me for the Kane McGoodwin award, they will end up with a Cyber-stalker here on BF. :D

As far as that bitter and twisted old bloke goes, yeah I've met him a few times, and I can state that we are definitely all the better off without that boring old fart hanging around these boards. :D
