Round 1

Number 1 GWS: Tom Boyd: VIC (FWD)
Height 200cm Weight 102kg
The 200cm power forward is the obvious pick for the number 1 spot. Man handles people around and has a very strong overhead mark and good pace off the mark for his size. Very reliable set shot on goal and showed in the AIS game against Collingwood that he can play against men being arguable best on ground. Has the ability to kick big bags of goals and should be able to translate that into the AFL providing a scary forward line for the Giants in the future combining with Cameron and Patton. While I don’t see him as the being that far ahead of the next two due to having not much competition against quality key backs he still gets the number one pick being that I think he is the only forward in this draft capable of kicking big bags consistently.

Number 2 GWS: Josh Kelly: VIC (MID)
Height 182 Weight 73kg
Josh Kelly has elite endurance and elite kicking. Won’t be a surprise to see him go this early as he has had a terrific season, backing up from last year where he was a strong chance to be mini drafted. Can play through the midfield and also up forward but the wing is where I see him being suited best being that outside run and carry player being able to hit targets with his left boot. He really can run all day showing that by winning the 3km time trial with a time of 9:32, the second best of all. Will be interesting to see if he can develop more of an inside game to complement his outside ability. Can kick goals so is a really good prospect to get so early. If GWS didn’t have pick one and two I would imagine Aish would go here but seeing how they like their Victorians Kelly gets the nod. Good pick up as well for GWS.

Number 3 St.Kilda: James Aish: SA (MID)
Height 183 Weight 74kg
In my opinion Aish will be the best midfielder to come out of this draft. If he was injury free I think he could have easily become the number one pick being that he has been playing a very consistent high level of football in the SANFL for a number of years. Is just another elite outside player with a very good kick on his right foot. Like Kelly I see him best suited to the wing being that he dosen’t have the inside game that would be needed to play in the centre circle. Is not soft though and can have a crack when needed but being that he has a light frame is harder for him to be a presence. A few years in the gym should fix this and will be interesting if he can complete his already very good game. Has showed he can play against men and should play early in the year for the saints if not round one. A good pick up for the saints should see them add that bit more class to complement Jack Steven.

Number 4 Western Bulldogs: Jack Billings: VIC (FWD/MID)
Height 183 Weight 78
Billings is a left footer and a really good forward with ability to push more into the midfield in the next few years. If he can push into the midfield it will see this extremely talented and dedicated player to flourish at the next level. At the moment though he is best suited to the forward line where he has terrific goal sense and a very good overhead mark for a player of his size. Billings has a lot of class and will be able to basically step into the Bulldogs line up and have an immediate impact for them. Billings could very well develop to be the best if his body allows him as he always seems to have a little injury hampering him. Should help the Bulldogs rebuilding process with their third top five in two years with the other two being Stringer and Mcrae.

Number 5 Gold Coast: Matt Scharenberg: SA (UTIL)
Height 191 Weight 90
Scharenberg is a great prospect being that he can play every position as if it’s his own. Is just at good down back as up forward and in the middle although at the moment is probably seen by most as a rebounding defender as he showed in the nationals his ability to cut off opposition attacks with intercept marks showing a great ability above his head and then being able to kick it to a team mate setting up the attack for his team in almost quarterback fashion. Being a bigger body he will play almost immediately for the Gold Coast and should have a very exciting career. My pick to win the rising star next year as I think he will have the most immediate impact out of any of the players in this draft.

Number 6 Collingwood: Marcus Bontempelli: VIC (MID/DEF)
Height 193 weight 83
A rangy tall midfielder/flanker with a lot of potential and a long racking left foot. Has the ability to really improve but I question whether he actually will. If he does reach his potential he could be anything. Being this size and having his level of athleticism it gives him a lot of versatility. He has a pretty good tank and can run out games well. Hasn't had an amazing year that screams top 10 but its his upside that makes him in this range. Has an elite left foot kick and can pin point passes to his oppositions.

Number 7 Brisbane: Dom Sheed: WA (MID)
Height 183 Weight 82
This year’s Larke medallist had a very strong national campaign where he showed everyone how good he is. Is a very good inside outside midfielder and can kick goals which he showed in his 4 goal game against Vic Country where he dominated throughout the whole game. West Coast are lucky to get this home talent here with many other clubs hoping he slips through to them which he may due to some people considering him one paced. Needs to work on his endurance to be able to play at the AFL level but with a few pre seasons should be no trouble. Probably only plays about half of the games he could in his first year because of this limitation. He will complement Priddis in the middle being good on the inside but also good on the outside getting a pretty good spread of outside and inside ball. West Coast should be happy with this pick.

Number 8 North Melbourne: Luke McDonald: VIC(DEF/MID)
Height 188 Weight 81
Son of Donald and this years premium father son pickup Luke has a racking left foot which he can kick 60m+. His kick has real potential to break open opposition zones and pick its way through traffic. Played in the VFL this year after completing a preseason with North Melbourne and showed what he could do having a terrific debut game and playing very well in the finals. Didn’t have the nationals everyone hoped he would after not backing up his all Australian selection from the year before. This could have been due to a niggling knee injury that looks as if it pulled up well by finals time. All in all Luke is a very good Half back/mid who in time with his arsenal of weapons will become one of the most dominate players in the AFL. North are very lucky to be able to pick Luke up here as he is a genuine gun.

Number 9 Melbourne: Matt Crouch: VIC (MID)
Height 182 Weight 80
The brother of Adelaide player Brad is an amazing possession getting averaging 37 touches in the TAC CUP this year and getting 27 in his last game against Vic Metro in nationals. Played in the VFL this year and managed to get 25 touches in about 60% game time. Is a really good player but there is concerns over his work rate at training and coach ability. If he can get that right he should be able to make a very solid AFL career like his brother. Probably the best inside player in the this years draft and should go this high. Like Sheed Crouch will have to work on his endurance to be able to consistently play at his full potential week in week out.

Number 10 Collingwood: Kade Kolodjashnij: TAS(DEF)
Height 189 weight 78
Kade is an attacking half back flank who resembles Grant Birchall. Has a good left foot kick that he used to hit his targets. A good attacking outside player who provides a lot of run and carry and won the div 2 best player award. His stocks have really grown this year and has really pushed himself into top 10 contention. Not the best 1v1 but makes up for it in other areas.

Number 11 West Coast: Ben Lennon: VIC(FWD/MID)
Height 187cm Weight 79kg
Lennon is a dynamic medium forward with elite marking who has a lot of class and a great goal sense. Has an elite kick in which he can pinpoint passes up to 60m. Had a good championships in which he made the All Australian team playing forward. Showed in the last half of TAC CUP that he has a ability to play in the midfield where he consistently racked up the touches and had a solid impact on the game. Has good potention to be a lot better when he puts on more muscle and works on his endurance which is not one of his strengths.

Number 12 Richmond:Christian Salem
Salem has an elite left foot kick and racks up the possessions on the outside. His kicking ability mean he is very effective on a wing being able to hit up targets up the ground and kick a goal or two. Has a decent two way game and will most likely be a good player in the future. Probably will go higher than this but this is where I rate him.

Number 13 Carlton: Nathan Freeman
Freeman has elite speed and good endurance making him a player that will burst away from the contest and keep going. Probably doesn't get enough of the ball for the attributes that he has and I have the feeling that he will never reach his full potential simply because his not a proflic ball winner and a lot of his disposals are rushed and ineffective. If he does though he will be a Dangerfield type player which is invaluable.

Number 14 Port Adelaide: Lewis Taylor
Height 175 weight 76kg
Taylor is an elite ball winner and wins a lot of the ball through his handball receives. Had an excellent championships for Vic Country where in his last game had 31 possessions in 20 minute quarters. Consistently got over 30 for the falcons hitting the 40 mark a few times. If only he was around 10cm taller he would be likely considered top 3. One thing is that he gets a lot of one, twos which with player analysis could see him have to find a new way to get his high level of touches but with his footy smarts shouldn't be a problem.

Number 15 Sydney: Blake Acres
Acres is a good prospect in this draft being a good tall midfielder with versility. If it wasn't for his injury he would probably be ear marked to go a lot higher than this. Sydney are getting a good deal on Acres as he has a high ceiling and his highlights are impressive making me think his improvement in the next few years will see him be one of the best out of this draft group.

Number 16 Geelong: Darcy Gardiner
Gardiner is the best KPD in the draft by a mile and is just that competitive beast that hates to get beaten 1v1. A bit undersized for a KPD and will probably end up playing on the 2nd or 3rd talls which is why he will slip this far down the order. Gardiner also has shown that he can play forward and has good marking ability above his head.

Number 17 Fremantle: Cameron McCarthy
McCarthy is a very raw KPP and has a lot of developement still to come. Easily the second best forward in the draft and should turn out to be a good player if developed correctly. Best known for his high flying mark and than conversion on the siren to win WA the game against Vic country in the nationals.

Number 18 St.Kilda: Luke Dunston
Dunston is one of the bigger bodys in this years draft which makes him a very good inside midfielder. The main knock on Dunstan is his kicking ability with it not being very pretty to watch. In my opinion this isn't a huge worry for him as his perdominately inside and doesn't need to have the greatest kick to be a weapon for a team.

Number 19 St.Kilda: Billy Hurtung
Hurtung is a outside midfielder who is best known for his run and carry in which he loves to take on the game. Has an elite endurance base 16.6 beep test which is the record for the draft combine and shows it in the game through the amount of running that he does. Played a good role on Aish in the game against SA in which he kept him very quiet whilst having a good impact himself.

Number 20 Gold Coast: Trent Durmont
Durmont is a good inside player midfielder who also has the ability to play on the back flank. Has a good sized body and really cracks in hard at the contest. Plays a bit like Ollie Wines and his footskills are of a similar calibrae being solid but not elite. If he can tidy that up he will become a very servicable inside mid. Has been playing senior SANFL for Norwood and played well in the final meaning that he can stand up to the bigger bodys.

Round 2:

Number 21 GWS: James Battersby
Battersby is a midfielder from SA who played the role brilliantly in the championships as a small defender. Battersby has a pin point precision kick that he uses to set his team up going forward. Being a small player making it in the AFL will be a lot harder than someone who is 5cm taller. Hopefully with a player of Battersby's talent he can make a good career from the game.

Number 22 GWS: Johnathon Marsh
Marsh is a KPP who can also play midfield who has electrifying pace recording the 2nd fastest every sprint time at the draft combine (2.78seconds). His pace shows in the way he plays in that he like to take people on. Very much still a raw product Marsh has a lot to improve on with his kicking not being the flashiest and endurance not being great but if he can be developed he is a scary prospect at AFL level. Probably to small for KPP so will be developed into a HFF or mid.

Number 23 Adelaide: Jarman Impey
Impey is a small indigenous forward with line breaking pace and excellent agility. Impey loves to take the game on and has a very good overhead mark for his size. Has good disposal and makes the most of his possessions. Should be able to forge a career as a small forward and should develop into a 30-40 goal a year player. Has some x factor.

Number 24 St.Kilda: Zac Jones
Jones brother of Melbourne's Nathan Jones had a good championships playing as a defender and locking down on his opponents than running off on the rebound. Jones is a very aggressive player and is known for trying to get into his opponents head by "bullying" them on the field. Showed that he has the potential to be a midfielder later on in the season after having some good performances for the Stingrays in the finals. One thing Jones will need to work on is his kicking as I see it as the main weakness to his game.

Number 25 St.Kilda: Isaiah Miller
Miller is an exciting half back flanker/wingman who loves to take the game on. Saw him against Geelong this year get the ball from the back pocket and run it all the way and kick a goal from 60m. Miller has a good kick on him often setting up the play for the Pioneers and took the kickouts for Vic Country. Could improve his 1v1 defending a bit but ultimately I see him becoming an outside mid playing on the wing at AFL level for the Saints. Also shown that he can kick a few goals from the back line which is a bonus. Miller is athletic and has shown above average marking ability for someone of his height and also good skills on the deck. Should become a decent player.

Number 26 Western Bulldogs: Eli Templeton

Number 27 Gold Coast: Nick Robertson

Number 28 West Coast: Luke Reynolds

Number 29 Brisbane: Patrick Cripps

Number 30 North Melbourne: Jay Kennedy Harris

Number 31 Collinwood: Darcy Hourigan

Number 32 Carlton: James Sicily

Number 33 Carlton: Cameron Giles

Number 34 Port Adelaide: George Hewitt

Number 35 Sydney: Rory Lobb

Number 36 Geelong: Alex Spina

Number 37 Fremantle: Nick Bourke

Number 38 Hawthorn: James Tsitas

I think west coast will go for another mid with pick 28.Reynolds is a 3rd tall forward isn't he?

Yes your correct Reynolds is a 3rd tall but I think he can also play half back flank. There is good value in him at pick 28 as he has a very good kick on the left foot and can load up from 55 and score or pin point a pass into the forward 50. In my opinion his the best available at this pick which is why I picked him as I'm not picking on team needs.

Hawks are targeting midfielders. No way that Gardner will be our first pick

Fair point wasnt fully doing team needs but I think there key backs are pretty solid so I updated it on what could possibly happen.
