So a fair few can probably dismiss this thread.

Obviously it is common knowledge the guys are working on a new album, still expected to be a little while until it is released. In the last show however a new song which is untitled at the moment made it's live debut.

The band performed a brand new song at the show in Berlin earlier tonight! The song is untitled and according to reports from fans who attended the show, the song is around 8 minutes, with double bass and guitar solos.

Next Metallica record will be interesting, certainly not in the vain St. Anger was.

Yeah i heard about this.. and it was mentioned they were going back to their older stuff which is gold. St Anger was OK but nothing compared to their old shiat.

the song didn't sound bad, i quite liked it. the solo was fast, like one. i quite liked st anger and i thought the title track was one of the best things they've ever done, and i quite like bob rock, i think he did a lot for the band, so that probably makes my opinion irrelevent. but still, i hope they don't just pander to the ir hardcore fans (who judging by the big day out crowd are mostly idiots) and try too hard to sound like they're going back to their roots. just do whatever comes naturally.

I hope I've not offended anyone by mentioning these two bands in the same post. Seriously, I've no idea about either band's music, other than that they both seem to have a preponderance of electric guitars in their lineups.
