If Hurley is the gone, the bombers will be after a midfielder for mine. Hartlett and Sidebottom are the next best available. Personally don't classify Ziebell as a midfielder just yet, he'll pinch hit in there but he isn't a pure midfielder. It does depend on whether they want to go best available and take Ziebell (no question he is best available at their pick in my mind) or let him slide and pick up one of Rusty or Hartlett. We'll have to wait and see but my feeling is they will take Ziebell unfortunately, way to good to pass on.

a) What would you classify Ziebell as?
b) From what I read he's got all the hardness we seem to lack in the midfield, how is he with hitting targets by foot? & on his non-preferred side?

He is an everywhere-type player, can play forward, through the middle or across half back, he is the definition of a Utility player. Don't classify him as mid just yet as his engine isn't up to scratch at the moment. Think he'll be used up forward for the first year or two with maybe a few stints through the middle. Then again he could he used across half back which is where Shifter seems to like him playing.

No joke, Ziebell could probably kick a footy into a wheelie bin from 50+ metres on either foot consistantly, he is that good with his disposal. One of, if not the best player by foot off both feet in the draft for mine.

He is a pure footballer just like Gibbsy.

from what i have seen his skills are immaculate on both sides...i can only see him getting better with his skills.

Hardness, bottom of the pack type ball-winner with such target hitting ability by foot, engine comes from 3 AFL pre-seasons, besides, you had me at

just like Gibbsy.

Ditto! :thumbsu:

He's been told by Mark Williams that if he is available at pick 4, that Port are going to draft him.

This is not a rumour. His family is not happy !

National draft is in November but Williams has already declared his hand at this early stage?

Cruiser/BlueYoss/any other draft gurus, the more I hear about Ziebell the more I think he sounds like a Hodge prototype.
Hard, tough utility with sublime footskills... Are these the sort of things we were hearing about Hodge pre-draft? Is there any merit in that comparison or am I being unfair?

Guru of BF draft threads and the occasional YouTube highlights.

I haven't seen any of them play, live or on Foxtel, please don't rely on anything I say about any draftees :)

Now that I've gotten my disclaimer out of the way, mark him in for Norm Smith Medal 2010 in Carlton's 17th premiership side :D

It's hard to compare prospects with current AFL players, it can get you into a little trouble because you can over-rate/under-rate the player. Saying that though, i can see Hodge-like traits as well as Gibbs-like traits in him.

There is a LOT of love for Sidebottom on the Essendon board. I doubt they would take him before Ziebell or Hurley, but they would certainly take him before Vickery. As should we.

Who? The Essendon coaching panel or Essendon fans on Big Footy??

99.5% of posters on Big Footy havent got the first clue how the top 10 will pan out

i think if hurley is gone, we should pick up trengrove. Will be a gun KPP, and was looking as a top 5 draft pick before his injury. PLUS HAS MORE PACE THAN HURLEY!!!

Sounds like a very enticing prospect indeed.
