“Forza Motorsport 3” Unveils the Ferrari Collection and Original Amalfi Coast Track

This October, the universally recognized “cavallino rampante” of Ferrari’s prancing stallion badge makes its return in “Forza Motorsport 3,” the highly anticipated racing experience from Turn 10 exclusively for Xbox 360. As the perfect complement to “Forza Motorsport 3’s” sizable Ferrari roster, Turn 10 is also lifting the curtain on an originally designed track, the Amalfi Coast, where fans will enjoy both point-to-point and circuit racing as they speed through the scenic landscape of Italy’s rustic coastline.

As Ferrari takes center stage at the Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany, Microsoft and Turn 10 are excited to announce that “Forza Motorsport 3” will include 29 models from the legendary manufacturer, including iconic cars such as the Ferrari 250 GTO, Ferrari 512 TR, Ferrari F40, Ferrari Enzo, and Ferrari 430 Scuderia at the title’s release.

To properly showcase all of the amazing Ferrari models that players will find in “Forza Motorsport 3,” Turn 10 will be showcasing all 29 models on Forzamotorsport.net, starting today and running for the remainder of the week. These reveals will include exclusive screenshots and information on each model, as well as a few surprises, so be sure to tune in daily. Additionally, to help complete the Italian racing experience, “Forza Motorsport 3” takes racers on a tour through one of the most beautiful destinations in the world – the luxurious Amalfi Coast of Italy. Inspired by the picturesque environments of the coastline, the originally designed Amalfi Coast track is sure to be a fan-favorite for showing off breathtaking videos and screenshots captured in “Forza Motorsport 3’s” video export and photo modes. As a circuit, the Amalfi coast is 3 kilometers of challenging narrow cobblestone roads, beautiful beachside vistas, and tight tunnels. In its “Rally di Positano” configuration, the Amalfi Coast is over 19 kilometers of white-knuckled tarmac rally heaven. Fans of point-to-point racing will love getting from point A to point B on the many stages of the Amalfi Coast.

I've been reading over at NeoGAF that it still feels slightly arcadey and that the cars feel like that they are on rails.

Any truth to this in your opinion?

Can anyone compare the physics to a PC sim or even GT5P?

I'm interested in buying it as well now that GT5 won't be coming for at least another 6 months. :(

It does if you play with the line to assist you and all the automated features turned on.
 
The one complaint I have is that, although I know the developers wanted to keep the game running at a constant 60FPS, I really was hoping for more detailed damage in terms of car deformation.

The simulated damage which affects how your car performs is good, but the cosmetic stuff doesn't seem all that great. Your car does show damage, but you can't really see dents or anything like that and although pieces of the car will come flying off, I really had to try hard to get this happening. I slammed into a wall at 200km/h and assumed that would be enough to smash my windscreen but it stayed intact.

The only way I found I could really mess my car up was by sitting in the middle of the track and letting the other cars slam into me as they did laps. Doing that I managed to smash all my windows and alot of pieces fell off my car, but I was still fairly unimpressed by how this really didn't affect the body of the car that much.

I suppose it's a racing sim though and I shouldn't be looking for ultra realistic cosmetic damage. When I turned the simulated damage on and smashed into a few walls, my engine failed to get me up a hill after the beating it had copped and I could only travel at 13km/h with my car constantly veering to the right because of the wheels being out of whack.

Why do you say 'still'? Forza 2 is nothing like that.
 
Loving the demo. Plays a lot like Forza 2, with slight improvements. The only issue I have is that the in-car view seems a bit stiff. I love in-car views, they make the racing experience for me. And although I'll still buy and most likely love Forza 3, I have to say that I've seen much better presentations of the in-car view (DiRT, GRID, Midnight Club: LA). It won't stop me from enjoying it though.

Demo is great.

Screenshots and the one playable track make me think the environments will be fantastic. Virtually no texture popping or jaggies either.

Physics are pretty good if you take all the driver assists off and all the detail which has been put into customisation (paint jobs and tuning), also have me interested. Hopefully it helps foster a good online community/added depth through online aspects.

The car models themselves look really good but whilst the damage does effect performance, visible physical damage to cars is not to a crazy level (personally this is something I don't mind).

One thing that did impress me was how smooth the transition from shaded to non shaded areas is in regards to the shadows them selves.

Don't usually buy car games but I think I will get Forza 3. Great to see so many good drivers out at the mo though with the new NFS and GT5 (soon damnit).

Forza Motorsport 3 is an exemplary racing game. It's beautiful, the controls are spot-on, the career mode is satisfying, and the multiplayer component is awesome. But there's still room to grow. The visuals could be even better, the career mode sags at times, and there needs to be at least one more option for AI difficulty. Even with those concerns, Forza 3 is a big step forward for sim racing games. Turn 10 has thrown down the gauntlet and it will be a real challenge for Polyphony Digital to deliver a superior racer with Gran Turismo 5. After all, this is the best racing game of this generation. Good luck topping it.

i wasnt interested in this game until i saw that V8 supercars were in it. definately gonna pick it up now, does it have many aussie tracks? Bathurst?
