Moved Thread Free Tram Zone - come on be honest....

I switch in the city loop and get off at Jolimont Station. Walking from MCG to Flinders Street Station can be okay after a game (though campaigners think it the perfect time to smoke cigarettes) but doing it before the game gives me the shits and adds 20 minutes to the trip. **** that. Flinders Street Station is also a shithole best avoided when possible.

No I use PT on a regular basis so I pay
Nothing that irritates me more than freeloading, povo poor campaigners who are always thieving, not paying for PT and doing other general scumbag acts.

Never paying a dime, always poor because they spend their "savings" on Richard Gere and Smokes

my favorite is the people that won't pay because PT is crap, but they use it all the time

well guess what if you paid you would be part of the reason it got better

its like tapping off on a bus, I always do it because i don't want that bus to go away, you can bet they use Myki stats to work out when and what to run

Yeah I have heard the "Crap" excuse, but most are just shit people. I like paying my debts...being a responsible, productive citizen.

I know you guys have taken nearly a decade to get used to Myki (how? why? yeah there's threads on that) but we clever folk over in Westralia simply made PT free with footy memberships and game day tickets. Is this not a thing in the sporting capital of the world?

Things don't come for free in the big city

Why would they force something into a ticket cost that someone may not use?

Glad we have the choice here!
A ticket is about $40 at the cheapest for an adult and that's in the worst part of the worst regular used ground in the comp... memberships are insane for Freo and the Eagles, like they're about $1000, so it's not really that much more.

I gave up going to the footy in WA a long time ago. It's such a hassle it's akin to buying a concert ticket or attending a massive event. In Melbourne you throw a text out on the day and meet up nearby, all trains meet in similar locations from any direction, you can grab a counter meal and a pint before or after, it's all pretty last minute – even for Friday night games when there's 75,000-plus attending. In Perth you are lucky to sit with more than one person, it's ludicrously expensive, it's a bit more of a trek to go out before or after, and inevitably when someone is a member well they're locked into their seat... go to Etihad or the 'G and no matter if they are or what they are in terms of members, you can all just sit in general admission anyway. If you're bored or no one wants to see your team play (I don't blame people for this...) then going alone doesn't feel like some sad pathetic thing – cos it's 18 bucks and way more lax.

Going to things like festivals or the soccer, they seem pretty similar price wise in both states. The A-League is overpriced for what it is anyway and festivals are like burning money so unless you're a serious tight arse one is probably $143.50 and the other $138.75 and you get a train ticket in the former. Granted you probably walk to the latter it evens out but... you know... you really don't notice it. It's heavily subsidised.

But yeah free tram zone is just a rip off anyway – what kind of lazy prick gets a tram from Fed Square to Melbourne Central anyway? It's so ambiguous it's just used to sting tourists and RMIT students. They love camping out near Melbourne Uni for the same reason to.

If you live somewhere where you can't regularly walk to where you need to be, you have to have a car or catch public transport. It's just something you have to accept. You wanna pay rego, repairs, parking, everything else? Or do you want to pay for a train?

Since we're on the subject, I'll be going to Melbourne in a few weeks.

Can I: (1) get a myki somewhere at the airport when I arrive; and
(2) use said myki on some sort of transport or conveyance from the airport to the CBD?

Do you ever post anything that doesn't mention beer?

You say that like it's a bad thing
Narrow minded, what about wine or Cider?
Rum, Vodka, Whiskey
Jaeger bombs
Midori illusions
Long island iced tea

Surely they could be part of stories

Thank you. Most useful, however it looks like I will have to find some other means of getting to the city.
You can do it with a Myki, but it means bus to a train station and isn't worth the extra time (maybe if you get out of the terminal right before one of the rare buses arrives its doable). Skybus is the best option if travelling solo (free transfer to CBD and surrounds hotels once you get to Southern Cross). Depending on the works being done to the freeway at any given time, 20-40 minutes. Taking the PT network might take 90 depending on wait times at the airport.
Any more than 3, cab or uber is probably cheaper.

I don't know, that's why I asked.

Well u asked about the airport
yeah u can get one online but it could take up to ten days in the mail

google myki online and follow the link

might be quicker if a nice melb person grabbed one for u and whacked it in the post...have to be quicker than getting the public transport system posting it to u...then u could easily put credit on it online which takes 24 hrs

I googled myki atmelb airport and there was a thread from a travel site in 2014 that said ther was some areas in the airport that did sell them....they mentioned near t2 t3 and t4...but were hard to see as they were small machines tucked away in corners

hope that helps
