Did you post something like this after the Bombers beat Sydney in R1 last season? It wouldn't surprise me. Teams that finish in the top 4 often start slowly the next season.

What a shock that the clubs who looked good in the NAB Cup, and had the benefit of an additional 3-4 weeks of pre-season training (Essendon / Brisbane / Port / Carlton (?)) are looking the goods after two rounds.

There's a long way to go in '07, and a lot of luck required to have a crack late in September. At the moment the Dockers haven't had much luck, between injury and suspension. They might still make you eat your words, though. Here's hoping...

Interestingly, Chris Connolly was an assistant coach at Hawthorn in 2001-2002.

cc became freo coach at the end of 2001 so he had nothing to do with hawthorn 'topping up'

I don't know about that. Firstly, it is only Round 2, 20 more to go, plenty of time for them to work their way up the ladder. Look where they finished last year after being pretty average for most of the first half. More importantly, they played well in patches and were against teams that played better than most expected. No offence to them, but I don't think most people would expect Essendon or Port to improve much from those games. Freo on the other hand have Black, Farmer, Johnson, Schammer etc to come back in and a host of players that are coming off a reduced preseason due to injuries last year. Once this all works through the system and provided they don't get too many injuries/suspensions, they should improve significantly.

I really think what it does show is the importance of the core players for Freo. You look at the outs the Eagles have, but they are still finding players to step up and help them get over the line. Not a good sign if Freo have a bad run of injuries this year IMO.

I want them to improve from about Round 4 on, but it wouldn't surprise me to see another against the odds win for Freo this weekend...

Port, Brisbane and Essendon were all roundly tipped as bottom 4, if not wooden spoon contenders this season, yet when they perform well and win their first two they are still not certain of making the 8, but even if they do, they have no hope of making an impact.

Guys its Round 2, all the bottom teams win this time of the year. I cant speak for the Kangaroos though, theyre *****

hazy your pathetic .the boys played well fri ,cc had the match ups right. it was a great game & collingwood where just a liittle better on the night .congrats to both sides & if you dont like the way it panned out go join the coasters .they can use another pathetic loser as a supporter

You have to give it to Freo supporters they stick by there club, even when things are going badly. West Coast eagles are very much a bandwagon club, its true. There are supporters i have never even seen wear eagles merchandise, who now claim to be 100% true blue Eagles fans walking around in there grand final t shirt. Weiners

Freos the way to go :thumbsu: . I think freo will bounce back, they have a very good side, it will come together soon....hopefully

I hope you're right. And funny you say that about WC supporters. I found it ironic last season, and this season too, that before the derbys walking down the main road with my mates to the bus stop we had a crap load of people shouting abuse at us and saying WC are the best. Not one scrap of WC merch on them though...but there's prolly supporters for every side that do that.
