i dont see his height as a problem, the only problem will be for the opposition coz they wont catch him!!

yeh i think its a little wishful thinking that he will last til 3rd round but hopefully other clubs are nervous about his height so he slides

Given we lost our priority pick on the weekend what do you think our first 2 picks will be made up of eg 2 mids or 1 mid and 1 kpp. Also given our win over port and the potential to beat Melbourne and Essendon we may be in a situation where scully, moribito, trengrove and lucas ar gone. Should this eventate who would we go for...maybe a Butcher or Panos?

Anyone konw much about young Winmar??

Saw a mini bio on him in the West or Sunday Times and seems to have some great attributes about him. Speed, Skill, Size, a bit of X factor.

They were talking him up as HFF come midfield.

Having not seen him play, can you tell me about him and your thought son where he will go in the draft.

Winmar will be a very good player. Had a decent carnival but his recent form at colts level hasnt been outstanding.

Nat fyfe is one you should be looking at. Very similar player to Winmar but with more upside. Fyfe's stats in colts on the weekend were 35 disposals, 15 marks(a lot contested with a few screamers), 8 GOALS, 5 inside 50s. Should go close to playing colts and has so much development left in him.

If i was freo and there was still winmar and fyfe left on the table i would definitely be taking fyfe.

We'll definitely go for Morabito/Lucas/Trengove with our first pick, depending on where we finish and who is available.

As for the second pick, it's just a matter of which tall forwards are left. If either Panos or Carlisle are available, I would jump and take one. If neither are there, I would be looking to draft a tough inside midfielder like Carey. And then take a couple of talls like Luff and Houghton in the third/fourth round.

In regards to Fyfe, I would love him at Fremantle. But with Mayne, Headland and hopefully Bucovaz all playing that same medium forward role, I think we have more pressing needs. Which we should be focusing on with our first three or four picks.

Chris what type of player is Lucas? I know there are some comparison treads out there. It sounded like he is a mid-fieder that got played fwd in the 18's but in the WAFL he is able to play midfield for the sharks? Is he like a 'more areobic' Lindsey Gilbee or Masten with better skills?.

Lucas is a better version of Ibbotson. They have similar physical attributes and skill level but I think Lucas is more attack minded

Best to ask people over in WA, who have actually been able to see him play in the WAFL.

But from what I can gather, he is a hard running outside midfielder with generally good skills. Despite being an outside mid, he can still hold his own in regards to clearances and contested football. While apparently he was played at half forward in the U18's to add another dimension to his game, and he did play the role pretty successfully.

I might be wrong, but I get the feeling he is an all round solid player and depending on which club he goes to, could be developed into whatever role was required. That versatility will probably be his main attraction.

Don't compare Lucas' skills to Ibbotson's it does him injustice. The build is very similar though.

Lucas' skills are elite and close to the best in the draft. A tall mid who gets a good share of contested and uncontested ball, but tends to play outside because he is so damaging by foot, His kicking left and right foot is probably the best in the draft with the possible exception of Scully, pinpoint accurate and plenty of depth on both feet. Around the 188cm mark with supreme pace is versatile and could play anywhere but is best suited in the midfield or running off a half back flank, but showed in the carnival he can be just as damaging up forward.

In terms of "play-a-likes", I don't mind the comparison of Morton from Melbourne, both tall mids with elite footskills, pace and endurance. Not dissimilar from Pendlebury, similar size to Deledio, Goddard or Bartel, which I think is the best comparison.

He really doesn't have anything missing but what sets him apart from being just a solid all round player is his skills, particularly kicking, and his turn of pace, which when combined with a good tank and a frame with the possibility to add a lot of muscle, makes him a very exciting prospect.

Colyer wont last till third round, but I really doubt he's what you need.

Kp's are the way to go.

If you can get Joel Houghton third round Smart & Lloyd will be doing cartwheels.

There's not alot of quality fowards this draft, but perth's 195cm highly skilled CHF is one of the better ones available.

His field kicking is a standout for a bigger guy. and he's a tough unit wont back down from a challenge.

The Dockers are kidding themselves if they dont take Morabito with thier first pick, but in saying that i hope the eagles get him

I'm not sold on Houghton, RE.

If Dockers want a KPF, Aaron Black from Peel is the one in the third round. One of the best footballers I've seen in a while. Big, athletic, awesome leap and pair of hands, and a skill set and mind to match. Exactly what you want. Mature bodied and 19, could be ready to go in some capacity by round one next year.

And on another note, in the phantom draft I'm in early stages of formulating I think there's a strong possibility Panos will be around come your second round pick, who would be keen on that? IMO a Morabito-Jetta-Black combination sounds a bit better for what you guys need and that takes in the best available argument as well.

Has anyone seen the peel colts ruckman, Phil Polenz Saw. I think that another ruckman is still needed at the club. sandi and clarke are brilliant but developing depth in this area is really important to challange for a premiership. Top team this year has king and gardiner with others in the wings. So a late pick on a developing ruckman would be the way to go.

this kid seems to have a good tank and a footy brain. he is leading the colts in hitouts and has kicked a few goals as well. is in the bests for peel most weeks

I sure have, saw him play against South and he got 20 odd disposals and won about 80% of hitouts against Skinner who is highly rated, caused so much damage and I was very impressed. Could be worth a rookie but didn't get a screening to my knowledge so I assume there isn't a great deal of interest.

Cheers JMac and Chris. If he is the worst that we have available at our pick then that's NTB! Sounds like more development time than Morabito, who appears the preferred option on BF. We do need an elite kick in the mids.

My preference is we get Trengove but I suspect that chance is dwindling.

I'm of the belief you should always have a ruckman on the rookie list.

This year we are going to have to go after anything over 195 who shows even the slightest bit of football ability. So he could be a goodun deep.

The good news for you guys is that you DON'T need to reduce your senior list to 35 prior to the National Draft. The recent rule changes regarding rookies mean that rookie promotions (of which Jinxed listed 3) already count towards the minimum 3 draftees.

If Freo want, they have no requirement for further list changes until the ND.

Also..

Your senior list contains a maximum of 38 players, plus up to 2 veterans outside the list, bringing the total to a maximum of 40. Not sure how Junx came to a senior list of 42 + 1x outside veteran (Grover).

Yep, there were a few things wrong with my first list, and I've been updating it each time I get new info on the rules/policies etc.

The senior list obviously needs to be reduced to 38 but this is still up-in-the-air at the moment with players negotiating with the club regarding list extensions and trades etc. See updated list: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15624040&postcount=822

That post still shows a senior list of 42 players.

IMO the following factors will come into play:'
a. Moribito will be gone by pick 3
b. Harvey has said they will go tall this draft
c. Drum will get a third round pick
d. Peake will get a 4th rounder

I see our draft panning out like this.

4. Aaron Black - Freo to pull another rabbit out this year. Need KPP
20 Lewis Jetta - will be happy also with Sheppard or Duncan
36 Joel Houghton - need kpp
pick for Drum - Nicholas Winmar - 190cm mid - could be anything
52 Stratton - med defender
Pick for Peake - Luff KPD
68 Shaun Hildebrandt - mature age - keen to follow up Broughton experiment.

rookie list Dennis-Lane mature forward and ruck prospect like Daw or Polenz-

By 2012 this would see us with a potential midfield of Palmer, Hill, Suban, Jetta, DeBoer, Hall, Ibbotson, Ruffles and Hildebrandt

A forward line of Pav, Black, Balla, Mayne, Sibosado, Walters and Dennis-Lane

A backine of Pearce, Broughton, Luff, Stratton, Duffield, Houghton and Johnson

Together with a ruck of Clarke and Sandi and swingmen McPharlin, Winmar and Bucovaz this is a more than reasonable bunch a talent and potentional IMO.
