If you ever needed proof that all interstate clubs are just cash cows for the VFL this is it. Seriously how ******ed are the AFL ??

Well as the home side I would think you'd have the first call on what you're wearing and we'd have to fit in around that. And that's fair enough. It just seems unbelievably ludicrous that they would fixture our two sides to play in the week they pick as heritage round. When heritage round could be played in any of 22 H&A rounds. My totally uninformed guess is that we may pull the green number out for this occasion. The only heritage that represents IMO is that of a bunch of rag-tag, comedic losers... :thumbsd:

They should just bloody scrap heritage round altogether. First there's the Port farce where they're not allowed to wear their true heritage guernsey, now the AFL pulls this one out of the bag. Poor effort AFL, poor effort.

Maybe you could use the East Fremantle - Old Easts style jumper - the blue one with the big white stripe down the middle, then wait and see how long it is before the AFL schedule a heritage round clash for you against the Kangaroos.

As a one off - I'd have no issue.

As others have stated I think the old green jumper is the best option. We might just end up wearing our home or purple haze jumer.

we havent worn a bulldogs jumper before. So if we wore Easts this year, we'd have to wear the doggies next year.

Fremantle jumper too close for comfort

CRAIG O'DONOGHUE

An extreme jumper clash will force Fremantle to abandon their red-andwhite heritage guernsey next season because they will play Sydney in the round 14 themed weekend.

In a move which has stunned the Dockers, the club has been scheduled by the AFL to play against a team that wears almost an identical uniform.

Fremantle’s heritage uniform has red-and-white hooped socks, black shorts and a white jumper with three thin red Vs covering the chest. The jumper is based on the guernsey worn by the original Fremantle Football Club in 1885.

Next year’s heritage round has a 1970s theme and throughout that time Sydney wore red-and-white hooped socks, red shorts and a white jumper with one thick V covering the chest. Both clubs had red numbers on a white back.

As the away team, Fremantle are under pressure to avoid the clash. The Dockers must now decide whether to make a statement by wearing their preferred jumper, design a new uniform or wear their normal home-and-away guernsey.

Fremantle chief executive Cameron Schwab said he had no idea what the club would do.

“We could wear the jumper but it would be very hard to tell us apart,” he said. “We’re considering a number of options but it’s too early to say what they’d be. It could be very interesting.

“This is two years in a row. Last year the theme was 1980s and we came in in 1995. This year, the heritage round has us wearing exactly the same jumper as the Swans and we’re drawn to play them. My thought is how come we’re playing the Swans?”

The AFL introduced the heritage round in 2003 and the Dockers have worn the same jumper for each historical celebration. Last season, Port Adelaide refused to participate in the 80s theme after the AFL knocked back a request to wear the club’s black-and-white striped SANFL guernsey. The Power wore their normal away jumper.

Schwab said Fremantle could follow Port’s lead, but it wasn’t the preferred option.

“We made the decision last year that we would always wear our heritage jumper as our heritage jumper, regardless of the theme, because we wanted to make a statement about our heritage — particularly when they came up with a theme we couldn’t participate in,” he said.

“This year, if it was a Fremantle home game it would be very interesting. I don’t know if the Swans or South Melbourne have too many choices about what they could wear. It’s turned out that it’s an away game, so we have to come up with something.”

Just shows what a contrived crock of crap Heritage Round is.

Was fine as a one off, but this yearly thing is getting stupid. 5 clubs really cant credibly take part in a 70's themed round, so why bother?

Freo have bent over backwards to confirm with the AFL and it's antics. We have one of the only genuine away strips, played from one side of the country to the other just to please fixturing and put together a great heritage kit. The AFL are nothing short of pathetic and if this is the best Anderson and Buckley can deliver Eye Brows and the Commission better watch out going forward. There will be no heritage round for me this year and to be honest they can shove the concept where the sun don't shine. Has some one in AFL foregotten there are sixteen teams in competition? I just hope Swabby and company just look at it as another week in twenty two and turn up in our ordinary every day purple, green, red and white jumper. If AFL house can't be serious how do they expect anyone else to. Pathetic effort AFL :thumbsd:

So Other than the first green jumper and not wearing a jumper at all what other options do you guys have?

Agreed brat... I guess the AFL fixture computer, didn't have the right parameters entered into it to avoid guernsey clashes, instead its cash cow jumpers.

FFC seem to frequently bend backwards to accomodate the AFL requests.

Lets not forget how Melbourne were able to wear their guernsey during FFC's 1st HOME 2nd semi-final! I didn't see the AFL step in requesting the Dees to change strips.

There are a couple of options the way I see it.

Just hang back make no commitment other than what Cameron has already said. If we increase membership in '07, and by round 16 if we are travelling pretty good (in top 4) and have estabished more respect from other clubs we try and flex a bit of muscle and (i) threaten to do what port did. (ii) wear our green strip. (iii) Wear our haze stip. Whatever we do we should make a lot of noise.

As for the green strip I'd go for it in an instant. It would show that we can look back to our first few years without feeling selfconcious.

Like i said last year it's not a fashion parade it's a footy match.

I don't think you guys have lost wearing the Red & White colours during heritage round? I could be wrong, it just means now you guys will remain undefeated after this yr still with the Red & White jumpers :)
