First thing that strikes me as suspect is that Bradshaw wants $500,000 per. Second thing, they say we have an offer of nearly $400,000 on the table.

How can we afford that? I thought we are paying 100% of the cap? I know Riccardi has gone, but wasn't he vet listed, meaning only half his salary is counted against the cap?

No more Kent creates about $400,000 - $440,000 in salary cap room.

That's where the money to play with comes from.

Also if Kel gets traded you can add a little extra on.

I wouldn't expect too many players to hold the club to ransom over pay increases this season (as no-one really deserves one) so we should have some money in the kitty to go after Bradshaw.

Interesting to read that the Eagles fans seem to think that a late 2nd rounder will get his signature. Not so sure on that one.

Bingo, I also believe King will take a paycut of some sorts. Dont know if thats true or not but I guess we will see. What ive been told is that Brisbane are fearful he will enter the PSD. Bradshaw wants big money and if he does sign up for Brisbane you will know they have given in to his demands. As ive said theres only about 3 clubs in the AFL atm who are a realistic chance. I think 2nd rounder + fringe dweller type player would do it for sure

Firstly, How so? Kent wouldnt earn that much. He'd probably be on about half or even less.

Secondly, I wouldn't worry too much about thwta Embers has to say. Anyone ever seen him in action on the soccer boards?

I will believe it when I see it. Trade week is coming up soon and all will be revealed then. But I still think he isn't really required by us.
I would have thought Bradshaw is exactly what is required at Geelong: an established key forward capable of walking into your 22 and kicking 60+ goals next season.

Or is the forwardline line of Nathan Ablett, Brad Ottens and Tom Hawkins going to get you back into the top 4 next year?

That's why he has meant to have gone to Geelong every time his contract has expired.

I think Bradshaw would be of value as it would allow ottens to become our #1 ruckman changing with King off the bench. Ottens could pinch hit forward but we would have a starting forward line of ... (assuming G.Ablett starting in middle and maybe rotating with chappy)

HF: N.Ablett~C.Mooney~P.Chapman
FF: S.Johnson~D.Bradshaw~T.Hawkins/M.Stokes/T.Varcoe

I reckon that would be a pretty potent forward line.
If no bradshaw then I think ottens still starts at FF. Hawkins to play 10 games at least. Stokes has good defensive skills and can go onball or play a small backman role and I would have him in the side next year. Hopefully Varcoe steps up as that x-factor forward next year also.

I remember Dwayne Russell stating (and I think it was pretty much confirmed by Mick Turner) that Kent's recently expired contract was quite large and upwards of $400K. I'm pretty sure he signed a rather large contract back when we were paying 95% of the cap and there wasn't too many others that were worth paying big bucks for.

He has been our leading goal kicker for a while now (apart from this year) and was getting paid well for it and rightly so.

Depending on when he signed a new contract, say it was 3 years ago. He most likely kicked over 45 goals, and probably played in every game that year.

I'd say he would be on at least 275K.

I heard that we had a good bit of cap space, especially when you take into account the loss of Kent and Riccardi. Plus I'd probably throw in Macarthy who will most likely be gone.

I'd think we would have at least 4-500K in cap space. Most of the footy writers have been saying that GFC have a bit of space, more than others anyway.

I had heard, and always thought due to being a moneybags from outside interest he played for very little.

We should be heavily involved in discussions. If the price is right we should get int here. I agree that Our forward line next year should be

Nath / Bradshaw - swapping that FF, CHF role.
Ottens ruck, resting in forward line
King ruck, resting on the pine
Hawkings - forward pocket, HF flanker, resting in reserves for large parts of season (unless dominating).

Seems likely to be traded.

What would you offer?

Reckon Doogs is worth a go from us, Kingsley for Doogs straight swap? Neither can get a game for their respective clubs and both may benefit from a change in scenery, reckon it's a fair trade.
