We have alot of Midfielders and i was just wondering who would be in the Midfield in 1-2 years time?
WHO WONT BE THEIR?
WHO WILL BE IN THE GUTS?
WHO WILL BE EMERGENCEY/BENCH?

Assume there will be 8 mids in the 22 and pick 8, plus a few a emergencies + the main ruckman from the following:
Dyson, Watson, Monfries, Jetta, Winderlich, Rama, McVeigh, Peverill, Lovett, Dempsey, Campo, Slattery, Stants, Hislop, Lonergan, Riemers, Nash, Hocking, Houli and hopefully one of Masten or Ebert.

I myself am hoping it will look something like this:

Rucks: Laycock, Masten, Winderlich

Centres: Stanton, Hislop, Monfries

Bench mids: Hocking, Watson, Dempsey

EMG: Houli, Lonergan

AVE AGE: 20, Pretty young midfield that should last us for quite a while! *Hopefully we get Masten

The quality mids that havn't been chosen such as Lovett, McVeigh, Nash and possibly Slatts would probably play in other positions around the ground and could possibly also rotate if need be.

With Dyson, Campo, Peverill being shown the door.

Basically it would be out of these players with Dyson and Lonergan with big question marks over thier heads. That is 15 players and in 2 years it could develop into a more than competitive midfield.

You throw around the names of Winderlich, Monfries, Stanton, Watson, Nash, Lovett, Slattery, Dempsey, Houli etc, plus the ruck trio of Laycock, Hille and Ryder and it looks good, with age on its side, but to me we just lack that 1 out and star in that group who will win matches. We need at least one of these guys to turn into consistent AA contention types.

yeah
we have got any gun midfielders like judd, kerr, gary ablett who can turn the game upside down
Unfortunately, we don't have any thing worth much value during trade week that we would be willing to let go of other than draft picks although we would be reluctant to let a high draft pick go.
Hopefully we can develop a match winning midfielder from our list.

Inside Mids: Watson, Hislop, (1st pick in 2007 draft)
Outside Mids/Wingers: Houli, Winderlich, Lovett, Nash, Reimers, Dempsey

All those would be definately in the mix in 1-2 years time. I think if Winda can step up another notch next year we might have our AA midfielder.

This is what I would like to see next year:
Rucks: Hille/Laycock, Winderlich, Stanton
Centres: Nash, Watson, Lovett

Dempsey, Houli, McVeigh, Davey, Jetta, Hislop and Reimers all spending time in the middle.

Our pace is not the problem and getting the ball isn't that big of a problem its what to do with after we have it. Our midfielders kick when they should of handballed or handballed when they should of kicked and to make it worse half of them don't even have a decent kick. We need to work on usage of the ball and when to kick and handball.

Take Pev out of the team and all of a sudden our ball use/decion making of whether to kick or handball gets alot better, but we lose extraction out of the middle. Pev, Hird and Watson are our main extractors, with McVeigh part time.
Take Pev and Hird away and our getting the ball will be a bigger problem than you think. I don't want to see Peverill getting a game next year because of his poor usage of the ball, sub in Hocking for Peverill next year and it should be a bit better. Our inside players are going to have to step up next year if our we want our midfield to cut it with the rest. I can see Hocking permanently in the 22 next year and i reckon he will be one of our most improved.

I have lots of time for dempsey just needs to get those hammy's right and we'll see in time if jetta and hislop wil make the grade, i think we have taken the port adelaide model and we'll see lots of aboriginal midfiedlers fleeting across the field kicking goals, we just need that kane cornes type player.

i think stanton reimers dempsy all have the possible star quality!

stanton is like a robert harvey ball winner who has a massive engine and just keeps getting it. he could become all australian very soon.

reimers is like a jason akermanis hff/midfeilder who has amazing skills and a very good goal sense. he tends to bring other players into the game, and his kicking and football brain makes forwards jobs alot easier. based purely on potential.

dempsy i see as a possible peter burgoyn, who just gets it and takes on people and runs. he is very hard to tackle because he can side step at full pace. needs to work on his kicking. based purely on potential

Geez, youve compared those guys to players that between them have 3 brownlows, 4 premierships and countless AA's (countless because I cant be bothered :p)

Id be friggin rapt if any of those players turned out like Harvey, Akermanis or Burgoyne.
