Just had a quick look on the saints board. They are just about exploding with excitement, Pffft..

They seem to think that in the unlikely event that any of this is credible, that they will take him for nothing. Hes restricted people!!

Would offer two firsts (likely to be 2 and 11) and maybe a player but it would only be if they could see something they want who isn't a part of our plans. If it would take more than that and you guys matched any FA bid then we'd probably have to walk away... That is of course assuming he has even the slightest interest in going to Victoria, let alone St Kilda.

Reckon if he did nominate us the AFL would get involved prior to trade week. Something along the lines of you guys not matching and then in a separate deal we either give you a pick well overs for a young bloke or we give you one of ours as a cheapie.

This is the same for any club a free agent nominates, the AFL will ensure they get there because they want to show their system works and they don't want any disgruntled uncontracted players suing the league.

Look at what happened with St Kilda and Essendon in the Carlisle deal.

- essendon said it would take pick 5
- St Kilda said that was too much, but they're willing to downgrade pick 5 for a fairer value and give essendon something like pick 10
- essendon refuse to budge
- afl bring Sydney into the mix, they provide St Kilda with a pick 14 for their second, saints get Carlisle and essendon get pick 5. Sydney didn't care about picks because they were taking an academy player, they just wanted points. This deal gave them something like 500 more points. AFL allowed Sydney to offload Craig Bird to essendon to justify the fact that they ignored their own rule limiting the trading of draft picks to exploit the academy biding process.

If Fyfe wants to stay he will, if he doesn't he will leave and get to where he wants to go. The club with pick 1 can't threaten to make the player walk and draft him, the club can't match a bid and force the player to stay. There will always be a compromise, this is stage management 101.
 
My gut feeling is that he will go. His manager said Fyfe hasn't agreed to play with the Saints. Fitzgerald said Fyfe hasn't signed yet but it's basically a done deal. That still lines up with Fitzgerald's claim. I won't be surprised if there's an announcement at the end of the season. Time will tell.

He has indicated many times this year that he is committed to Freo. Yes of course there is a possibility that he will go but this rumour is self serving and click bait from someone who is desperate for a ratings hit for his station. Even the St Kilda coach thinks it is 100% wrong and embarrassing.
 
The claim by Fitzgerald has not been outright debunked. The real question would be has Fyfe been talking to St Kilda at all. I think that would generate a different answer.

Time will tell. I'm not willing to dismiss the report.

It has by Fyfe's management and by Alan Richardson on AFL 360 tonight. Fyfe probably won't say anything because it is just that ridiculous and laughable that it does not even warrant a response.

Would love to see us all get together and start one of these stupid rumours. Way too easy in the media nowadays to make up a completely unsubstantiated story and then when it proves false not have to cop any flak for your blatant lies.

Fyfe said if his contract become a distraction he'd sort something out, my feeling is if nothing has happened in the next month then this stuff may have legs. St Kilda is the only club he could get to imo. They have a good list, money & assets to trade should it be required.

I'm still 95% sure he stays though. Will be shattering if he leaves but the sun will come up.
 
I dont even understand how this shit got so much traction, its literally the same as Hamish and Andy coming and saying, "We know for certain from someone very close to the Freo inner circle that Martin has agreed to play for Freo with a long-term contract." How can anyone take this seriously. If he goes he goes, but I guarantee "Fitzy" is 100% making shit up. Look at the storm it created, all from nothing.

I can't remember his exact words but it was along the lines of it is complete and utter bull crap and he can't understand why it is even getting any air time it is that ridiculous.

Where are you getting your flawed information from? Might be a good find quotes directly rather than the BS you are assuming was said...

Stride (Fyfe's management) said:

"Stride Sports Management can 100 per cent deny the rumour circulating today that Nat Fyfe has formally or informally agreed to a contract to play with the St Kilda Football Club next year and beyond," the statement said.

"Furthermore, we can confirm that Nat Fyfe remains focused on the start of the season with the Fremantle Football Club and remains committed to the Fremantle Football Club in 2017.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to encourage the football public to check the credibility of their news and the person behind it."

And Richardson (Saints coach) said:

"I knew it was wrong. In all reality, (I) don't want to give it much oxygen because it was so far off the mark," Richardson told Fox Footy.

"(It's) pretty disappointing really that there was an accusation that a board member had spoken to someone and so that's the disappointing part.

"The rest of it is just laughable given that we know where it all sits."

 
I'm not sure this makes Fyfe sign quicker. The whole rumour was dismissed reasonably quickly and sure he gets asked a few questions in the next week but probably no more than when we lost those first two games. I don't think at any stage it will destabilise our season and the same factors involved with him putting off signing remain. I personally won't worry until about 2-3 weeks after our bye.

That's completely meaningless though. Everyone says that. If he was totally 100% committed to Freo he would have signed already. Anything else is just lip service.

I don't give this fake news much credibility but if he did go and it was to the saints, I think we have seen his very best footy and they have 2 first rounders. If we could get those plus acres or Mccartin I would at least (reluctantly) give the deal some thought.
 
This is definitely fake news people. Watch and read all the info in this last few pages. This is just some weirdo Saints board members wet dream that he said a a boozy lunch or something.
 
If it happens it happens. Nothing we can do about it at all. If it does happen I hope we match and force a trade that fairly compensates us but how do u value a guy like Fyfe. Losing him would hurt us badly. But I guess we can look the crows and how they went about losing Danger.
