I felt Fyfe had a very poor game, with just 5 Contested Possessions and dropping several marks he would normally take (NB: In 2015 in Rounds 1-14 prior to getting corked by Mitchell, Fyfe was averaging about 19 Contested Possessions per game).
Yet, if I momentarily forget how good he can be, then I can still easily pick him as one of Freo's best players for the day.
The fact that he is obviously playing with some distress but continues to put in great effort with consistently high pressure act stats highlights just what a champion this fellow is. Fingers crossed he can get back to full fitness soon and again stamp his authority on the rest of the league.

Even at training today a couple of young fellas who have never watched training asked what is wrong with him. He is very slow in bending and straightening which tends to confirm an issue with his chest (or back maybe). I doubt we will see him at his absolute best until next season, but hope he can slowly build from here.

Gah I've posted in a couple of threads the last couple of weeks about this, but everyone's been too busy trading Fyfe to the Saints or whatever.

I'm fairly confident Fyfe hurt himself here: Knee into to his chest, at a hard enough force to tear Rowe's ACL.

Except he gets kneed in the thigh doesn't he? Could explain the sore quad. Cant really see any chest impact.

it's a bad angle. I think the knee ricochets into his chest on the other side

He knows I love him too. I'd be following him yelling at him to rest his knee if I didn't live on the other side of the country

I think you spot on about fyfe injuries , I did see the knee hit his chest when they repeat the incident on TV .

You will probably find that he is playing at his own request. Provided there is no risk of aggravating existing injuries or further injury there is no problem with this, he is doing his recovery on the fly and probably wants as much game time as possible to make up for last year.

He is doing what a great captain does, it's a pity some of the other squibs didn't have the heart he has.

Then he isn't achieving anything but damaging his reputation. A couple of games out to get his body right isn't going to set him back much more.

The problem is there is no mid to replace him , balic gone home , langdon injured ,sherriden and sutty already in best 22 , surely as a captain he prefer his team to be 7-5 compare to 6-6

He's had the chest injury for a month, though. It's unfortunate about Balic, that probably hasn't helped things.

This really bugs me, if he isn't right then rest him. If 1 game off in a bye round is the answer then why not rest him for one or two earlier.

We are supposedly rebuilding, so the final position on the ladder is irrelevant. The club seem to disagree and want to rebuild while still making finals, does Hawthorn ring a bell.

I'd be willing to bet anything that the club would prefer to rest him but Nat is insisting on playing.

Perhaps playing isn't really setting back the recovery time? Players play with niggles and he's been great for us - just not up to his usually lofty standards. If he sits out, the media will call him soft and a poor leader (ala Garry Abblett jnr). Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Will make the Fyfe/Bennell show later in the year even more exciting as they prove all these doubters wrong

I think I missed the memo where we decided that hackdorn's articles suddenly became credible.

Not that I take much notice of him as a rule, but something is wrong with Fyfe and why would he wear a protective vest unless he had an injury.

Unless you think he is just down on form,

I was loathe to post it, but given he was clearly wearing a vest on the weekend it's credible... even considering old mate Kim's typical standards.

That explains it, but do we really need to be playing him?

He's in the middle of contract negotiations. Sitting on the sidelines half the year decreases his value to other clubs and how much he can ask from us.

I'd say he'd be pushing as hard as possible to play through injury to maximise his $$$ over the next 5+ years.
