To be fair those stats there are literally his bread and butter. Similiar to calling Sandi one of the best ruckman this year solely based on his tap numbers.

To my eye he's pretty far off it and is playing a much more workhorse type role than when he is at his absolute best. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping like hell he gets back to it but playing as he is right now I would have a lot of midfielders in the comp ahead of him

Your opinion.
I couldn't name more than 5 midfielders I'd rather have.

WTF, disposals, clearances, score involvements and contested possessions are the bread and butter of every player in the AFL. If you excel at all of those you are one hell of a player.

Agree.

Dangerfield and Martin are the 2 obvious ones.

Then the next bracket is possibly: Sloane, Pendelbury, Bontempelli

Then after that it's a bunch of guys and probably none I'd swap in just a player for player swap. Kelly and Cripps would be the 2 I'd do simply because of their age.

Fyfe is 25 people!

He is, to my eye when at the games;
  • Below optimum weight, presumably to take pressure off the leg.
  • Short of pre-season fitness base.
  • Sore. I think the leg itself is hurting a bit.
  • Playing pretty bloody well for someone with the above
We are lucky to have him and the fact that some of the people in footy are just as dumb as the people in this thread saying he's stuffed and will never be half the player he was, and that we further insist on a new contract worth five bob and pickled egg and not a penny more, will likely maximise the likelihood of us retaining him. A good thing.

Freo should be trying to sign him now, whilst everyone has written him off.

$800k should seal the deal loll

The spot light is on Fyfe because of the contract $$$.

The scrutiny is just going to get worse even though he improves, especially if the saints want to offer $1.2-1.5m

My opinion based on reading between the lines and connecting dots.

Fyfe has had an offer placed in front of him, maybe recently, maybe ages ago. I'm going to say it's a solid $1M a season over 5 years type offer. Maybe $6M over 5 years.

Anyway, with this knowledge he has told his manager to scour the rest of the clubs and see what kind of offer other clubs may throw out there. With no genuine want to leave Fremantle, but if the mother of all offers come in, then he has some bargaining to do. It would be remiss of him not to indulge.

His manager has told any interested club (Saints etc) that they will need to be well north of the proposed deal sitting on Fyfe's lap.

Saints initially have spit balled some ideas back and forth and earlier in the season thought maybe he will come for $1.5M a season. This hasn't been exchanged with Fyfe's manager and word from the board got out and everything was thrown into hush hush mode. Saints never really intended to pay this, just out loud thinking if their player management model could facilitate such a move.

Now with Fyfe not travelling so well, Saints feel the need to shut down the speculation, despite no real genuine interest at the proposed price it might cost to lure him over.

No other club has put their hand forward for similar reasons. This isn't a case of no one wants Fyfe. More a case of most clubs know where Fyfe wants to play and no club wants to financially cripple themselves for one player.

Whatever Freo offer, other clubs know it will take a premium to lure him over and in any case Freo could match.

It's no different to what we've gone through with many identified players over the last 5-10 years.

A premium needs to be paid and for Fyfe that premium is large.

Expect Fyfe to sign sooner rather then later IMO.

800k just too little , 1-1.2 m is about right for Fyfe.

Don't rule out Fyfe signing for two years only, bringing him up to unrestricted free agent status.

Actually I'd prefer it if he did only sign for two years. Means he's super confident he can get his body back to 100%. If he signs for five years I'd take it as a sign he has doubts. But then that's just me.

No doubt he is a champ, but I haven't seen 1.2 million worth of champ this year.

2 broken leg , nearly one year without playing . with enough rest my estimation he will show glimpses of his old selves end of July or august provide he don't get injure before the byE round.

We all certainly hope so.

Look a bit harder.

It's hard work dragging an extra 80-90kgs at every ball up, boundary throw in and general around the ground play.
I'm talking about his general ball use.

Its lacking.

Tell me you haven't torn your hair out when he duffs it.

No doubt he's not at 2015 levels.

Perhaps we were spoiled back then. He really did single-handedly carry us to the top of the AFL ladder.

His ten games before that Mitchell dog kneed him were arguably the greatest 10 game package of all time. 26 Brownlow votes in 10 games.

PLUS I'm almost certain he got jipped in one of the early rounds where most pundits had him pencilled in for BOG and he didn't poll.

It's worth noting if you look back at the blockbuster type trades it's more often the team who looses the superstar who comes out on top in the long run .

Fyfe is a free agent though. We won't get anything for him if he leaves.
