Weekend Wrap and "Liked, Learned, Hated" right here -- How did tipping go?
Daisy Thomas has himself to blame for his body failing him. He was told to rest his ankle, went surfing instead, came back from break and it hadn't gotten better so he had to have surgery so he could play that season, Collingwood didn't want to pay him to sit out half the season because he didn't do it while on break. If only Carlton had that crystal ball before they signed up Daisy.
Surely no-one is suggesting you actively trade him out the debate is what $ amount you match?
If any other team has offered 1 mil and above, and that's the bargaining chip his agent brings to the table during the bye week, does Freo agree to match it?
He would know what he could get from other teams by now, Freo are in an awkward position of signing him now and risk paying overs.
I guess he gets his price and you guys run the risk of overpaying him, even an under performing fyfe is still good and your list should be in the spot that if you over pay him for 3-5 years you could still make other contracts work. The concern would be some stupid offer of 5 + years then you need to really think about it

Be interesting to see how Kelly goes with a few miles on the clock and getting the sort of attention Fyfe does.

You can tell we just lost with some of the crazy trade Fyfe ideas in here.
The guy is our captain! Our brownlow medalist! He's given both shoulders and 2 broken legs to this club! He has shown he can be the best player in the comp, and has the potential to get to that level again. And you know he'll always play to the best to his ability because he wouldn't let himself play any less. When Fyfe's ready to sign, and comes to the club with a $$ figure, you just shut up and pay him what he wants.
What if it's 1.5 million?
What if Neale wants 1m?
What if S.Hill wants 1m?
But no one is saying Freo needs to match the Melbourne club offers, in terms of $$ or years. He clearly wants more from a Melbourne club to move to Victoria. Yes I agree a crazy contract would be a bad call, but versus $9m over 9 years? Fyfe is a bargain.
Ask the person who ask for two first round pick to put his post in the main board now and make it bold and see the reaction from other club bf opinion .Kelly and Martin value is way higher than fyfe now ( if I were fyfe I will stayed at freo for what the club offer)
Fyfe needed rest to get back to his best. The team sleeping in one half footy didn't help him at all physically and mentally.Ppphttt we offered 2 first rounders for cam McCarthy , never underestimate the stupidity of list managers drunk on power

It's worth noting if you look back at the blockbuster type trades it's more often the team who looses the superstar who comes out on top in the long run . We should not instigate anything Fyfe can play for us as long as likes if his contract demands are reasonable.
We have been unlucky with our first rounders and this as much as anything is why we are in a hole . We are 3-4 class players short of a good side and some veterans not getting any younger , a painful but well executed trade like Fyfe could give the opportunity for a defining moment
Perhaps, I think the trend of leaving money on the table is fading. Especially for a player with injury history.
If he were my client and he wanted to stay in Perth I would be using the vic offers as leverage for years and bucks. Guaranteed money for as long as possible, he could always renegotiate for less if he wanted to but locking in the most he could for him and his future family is the smart thing to do.
Based on that you would think he would want the deals to be pretty similar.
My point was more, you guys may be forced to make this call now which I assume you wouldn't want to do.
I assume it killed Gaj to leave Geelong, but sometimes you have to do what's best you and your fam, talking less would be foolish.
I think freo pay what he asks for and hope he can get back to the million plus out put he was worth in his Brownlow year.
Fair enough too, he is still in the top 10 players in the league. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
GAJ had the chance to captain a new club which was pretty cool. Fyfe would be going to a middle-of-the-road Victorian club not in the premiership window, wouldn't be captain etc. I agree he should be seeking to use the other offers as leverage, but I also think no club is going to offer >$1m a year, and Freo won't need to offer as high as other clubs to keep his services.
There's every chance we get unlucky again with any first rounders we get for Fyfe.
You don't strike gold like him in the draft very often - we've only managed it twice in 20+ years. A bird in the hand is easily worth more than two top draft picks.

There is also the chance that Fyfe breaks down and never gets back to the level he was - let's call it the broken bird scenario.
What Tony is pointing out is that empirically (remembering that probability is built off empirical understandings) the team that loses the star player has typically gotten better on losing that player (within an AFL system) - in fact they seem like great cases of what Nicholas Nassim Taleb would call "antifragile systems".
Additionally, if one tries to explain that phenomena, it isn't just the compensation draft picks that offsets; it has also been opportunities opening up for other players that may have been held back, the creation of a driver for people to step up but also the removal of focus on one player.
Football is a team game.
Why? I would be surprised if he accepted less than a mil per.
I never mentioned how good I thought he was? Just that it would be hard to know what fair payment is for him right now.
