Game Day Game day! Yay?

If you think about it objectively our senior players choked when it mattered most.

Laird with the inside 50m, Sloane with a set shot at goal from 30m, Tex could have at least kicked it better the kick was fairly ordinary in terms of accuracy, I could have accepted a closer miss by him.
Sloane actually tried to lift, and as for Walker missing a goal well of youre relying on that to win then that tells you where we are at.

Im not discounting their effort, Im disappointed with their disposal for players of their experience.

Sloane really should have nailed the goal and Walker should have kicked better, fine that he missed, but he missed that goal by some far margin. Wasnt even close.

Again, I think youre missing the mark.

So it took us the 20 minute half time break and the whole 3rd quarter to work out that he didn't have broken ribs and was fine to play

I wonder if Lenny Hayes would have come off
Steve Saunders: "He suffered a heavy knock to the chest and took some time to settle and be ready to return to play. Given it is a contusion, we obviously expect him to be available next week.”

Not really I think you have completely missed the mark.
You've picked 2 moments that you believe decided the game.

I have about 2038 more that did.

Thats why they are called clutch moments in a game.

Sure there was many, many mistakes before those poor disposals, but the fact remains Sloane should have goaled and Tex could have kicked it a little better than in the middle of the goal and point post. I didnt expect Tex to kick it, but to get closer. Yes, he should have.

Sloane was massive trying to get back into the game, id look elsewhere If I was you

On the plus side, the majority of our forward entries actually looked half competent for the first time in 2 years.

Pity our midfield set up somehow got worse. That was one of the most one sided midfield displays I've seen.

Gibbs is well cooked. Well well cooked. I can't see he could possibly be considered again.

McAsey doesn't look ready imo. Happy to keep playing him though as we're obviously not contending this year.

Jones lacks confidence and strength at this stage. I really like his pace though and he can show class at times. Need to persist and let him know he belongs. There's a player in there.

Stengle is smart and needs to get around the ball more. Would be great in a good team. Lots of talent.

Thought Davis has really stepped it up this year. His tackling is really impressive. Can see a place for him now. Offers something different and will only get better with experience.

Fog can almost do no wrong. Just need it in his hands more often ala Stengle.

Thought Obrien was actually good. He's not an amazing tap Ruckman (yet) but very few are. Around the ground he was good in the air and linked up well. Nice hit up into f50. He's come from a very very long way back let's remember and is still very inexperienced. I think he'll be a bit of a scapegoat for our atrocious midfield set ups.

I keep waiting for Talia to fall off a cliff every year but he just keeps dishing up the same quality.

Brown had a bit of a stinker. Laird was good and bad as was Kelly. Not sure how we didn't get spanked really.

Overall not a great start but we had our moments.

I was pumped on getting Godden after all these Eagles people told me how great he was. He's a ******* dud though.
Was a dirty day for all our midfielders who even when they were advantaged by the tap, they double grabbed or fumbled it. Sydney by contrast were relatively clean and spread with good system. Brad Crouch's hands in particular were not great today.

Sadly sounds like he's backing in Gibbs: "I thought Bruce played reasonably well."

Feels like he's seeing what he wants to see.

Bruce may have played reasonably well but Bryce was absolutely shithouse!

How much class could he have shown in those 6 possessions, one of which was a set shot?

25 clearances to 46....yet we won the inside 50 count somehow. Don't know how we fix our deplorable centre square work, but we desperately need a change of personnel and structure. There were countless times where the Sydney mids were on the move before our guys, hence we were always on the defensive. The odd occasion where we did get there first we fumbled and either lost or rushed our next possession only to hand it back to them. I'm not sure we have anyone on the list who can fit the bill, even the likes of Brad Crouch look second-rate in terms of clean possession / disposal and the ability to break clear. That needs to be a priority with our recruiters in my view. I know it's only the first game, but we've witnessed the same over and over before - especially 2019.
