What exaclty is our game plan.

Watching the bombers on saturday night got me really depressed they have a list just as crap as ours yet they managed to play some really good footy and stuck to a game plan which they said they had planned to do.

What the **** is our game plan. Watching that game on Friday night it felt as if we had no game plan at all. Just kick it and see what happens. For thoes of you out there saying its only a NAB cup game i know that, but the way in which we played gave me and lots of others every impression that pick 1 and 2 is looking likely depending on Melbourne

I am just sick of been a shit club. Look at Hawthorn at the start of 2004 we were on the same level, enough said

I hope the bombers do well under knighter, but that "plan" under a regular season side will be interesting.
For what ever reason??? It seems that TW doesn't take the preseason cup to seriously, he seems to test the players in positions that he probably doesn't hve the luxury in trying during the regular season.
IMO the Hawks were slightly ahead of us in 2004. I am more disappointed as it seemed that the guys weren't there to play.

Makes a very valid point
you would think wallace, the tactician himself, could muster up something along the lines of a game plan, against a second-rate st kilder outfit. It just didn't appear so

It doesn't appear we have a game plan coz the players can't execute.

We have too many players that can't hit targets, Leigh Matthews couldn't implement a game plan with the skill level we displayed on Friday night.

I think they labled this years game plan - operation Natanui Rich.

If you de-chypher the code i think they're hinting at two you West Australians who are looking likely to be draft picks number 1 & 2!;):thumbsu:

I think that the current gameplan may just end us up with those two fine young footballers!

Careful. It certainly helps if you have proven key position players and that is what Essendon has got. This will always assist player development.

it's a game plan built around playing the flanks, kicking short to leads, and lots of running by lightly built wippets.

it's a frustrating game plan, and fails miserably when tried by an unskilled team. It's not a game plan that will win many games, let alone finals.

I've been saying it for a long time - they are going down the wrong path recruiting all these flankers & short people. Talented big men and kPP win matches, not players like Jordan McMahon. We just blew $400K on that dud.

KP forwards look better when you have gun midfielders (not flankers). Our midfield is shit.

Terry tan the tin man Richmond coach if bullshit was music terry tan the tin man would be a brass band :thumbsu:

So...if I combine the opinions of everyonr who's commented, we need/or need to do the following:

1. More KPPs, bigger taller players for our midfielders to target
2. Improve our skill level - particularly our mid-fielders
3. Move the pill down the centre corridor not just around the flanks
4. Terry must cease tanning and perhaps change his name, so it doesnt rhyme with Tin-Man.

Anything more suggestions? What have I left out? Maybe after this list is complete we can send it to the club..

Hawthorn were so far from our level in 2004 it wasn't funny. The comparisons in the media about how we evolved 'together' from the same start point are ignorant, uninformed and unresearched. The only thing we were on the same level as them was in ladder position; in team structure and core ability we were light years apart. In 2004 Hawthorn had a core of mid range players that it is now, with the addition of quality kids, reaping the benefit of. Richmond had zip and what was there was past it or just plain crap. Our kids have no core to lean on or learn from and their results thus far are testimony to that. We have to wait until our current day 'older' kids become our mid range core before we can hope to be a successful team and until then we will give our supporters a wild ride of excitement and disappointment. Each year from now will be better than the one before but it will still take time.

Maybe it's just me, but I hope we don't go near Natanui.

Apparently the guy is very raw, do you think our player development team can iron out his deficiencies?

Let's go for two boys that are ready made and can kick a ball properly.

Think you are spot on here. In 2004 I was so disappointed that we missed out on landing Wallace. Very angry that we got no name Clarko but he has so proven me wrong. Wallace chose the tigers because their list was better than the hawks but his recruiting has been totally wrong. He should have been prepared to trade anyone to get kids kids kids. Not chase older players.
As with most teams now the older coaches are disappearing and making way for young up & comers with new ideas. Richmond will have a good future if they move Terry on and go for youth and new ideas. Want to see you guys climb up the ladder but it wont happen while Terry is there. The team has really gone sideways with him. Not improved. Hope the board makes the hard decision this year for you and gets a fresh young coach with clear direction. You supporters have suffered enough

The game plan is still very much a work in progress.

The aim has been to get a larger stamina base into the young midfielders. It takes at least 4 years to get their base to an elite level (look at G Ablett). This is why we would get run down in second half's - this is why we always talk about 23-25yrs olds with 100 games under their belt.

We also need to develop more midfeilders, rotations and mixes. In summary we will need about a dozen guys that can be rotated through the midfield evenly split between "extractors", "go-to finishers" and "run with" players.

TW has got the basics of the "run & carry" game instilled into the group. Our problem is that we lack the stamina to do it for sustained periods, and our skill base is still not up to scratch.

This year we will try to develop our "man on man" game to be able to play the bigger sides and play stoppage football (ala Collingwood and Sydney) as well as to prevent run-ons and blowouts.

So on the old Malthouse clock we are probably at around 7-8 o'clock still got a long way to go, no guarantee that we will get their, however we have a plan and we are sticking to it!

Terry, is that you? ;)

Wallaces game plan should adopt another 2 established key position backs next year either drafted or traded for and with this season under our belt and another 22 games into the kids , 1 big retirement. I think finals will be a given. I'm confident we will play finals this year already. Although the Nab Cup was dissappointing I won't be using it as a form line for this season.

Good to see someone actually watches what is happening out on the field. :thumbsu:

Pretty obvious what gameplans Wallace is trying to instill. But we are still developing the skills, stamina and body size to implement them. It doesn't all just fall quickly into place when you are trying to develop 25 youngsters at once and there aren't enough quality mid-aged players to ease their introduction into the game.
