CARLTON
Cain Ackland
Ryan Houlihan
Jason Saddington
BlueWorld is going to go ape shit when he sees this article. :p :D

Nevertheless, Ryan is one player I would trade whilst he still has some value.

Houlihan is expendable because his absence hasn't hurt us and he doesn't play accountable football.

Gibbs, Browne and even Russell are applying more defensive pressure than Houlihan and pulling their weight.

I wouldn't pick Houla ahead of Walker.

Legendtofski did you seriously creat a new thread for this in the afternoon, when its already been talked about all day in the Ryan Houlihan thread and others? What is this a thread creating competition?

Same, although I suspect we wouldn't get alot for him. Sadly for Hoops, the team has actually played better with him out of the side.

With him in the side we may have been better again. who knows?

he's definitely in our best 22 and I think, as others have mentioned, he will really perform in a team that's travelling well.

It is a difficult one...Ratten needs to tell him to go back to the reserves(when he isn't injured) and learn how to tackle. Worked well at Richmond with Pettifer and Bowden..

Gary Lyon needs to take the blinkers off.

There's a lot worse players than Houlihan on our list. The coaching staff know his value and i have no doubts he will play a part in our team in years to come.

What i find funny about this is he is talking about teams that are out of the finals race and looking to next year....

So he has put lists together of 7 of the bottom 8 teams, but left off Port who currently sit 12th???

We are one game out of the 8 and sit 9th (he probably wanted to declare that Carlton could still tank, idiot), this article should have been directed at the bottom 4 teams, who are already planning for 2009.

I find it even funnier he listed Johnson and Previll from Essendon....Garry it was said 2 weeks ago they are gone at the end of the year...you insight on these players needing to be delisted is laughable.

Hoops will be there in 2009, although we could get value you need to have a player who could play in the team or come into the team to add depth and skill, Hoops does this, although he might be sliding out of the best 22 for the future.

He's got it pretty spot on with the players he mentioned for mine, we've got a couple of others too in Wiggens and Harlett.

As Dean Rice said a few weeks ago when he spoke to my side before we played, there are only ever 3 situations in a footy game, Ball in Dispute, Ball in your teams possession and ball in oppositions possession.
IMO Houlihan is only useful in one of these situations, the other times he costs us as a team dearly, therefor he is only 1/3 of a useful footballer, my verdict, not good enough.

There are plenty more cloggers at Carlton. Gazza was being conservative.
Houla unlike the other two mentioned does hold some trade value (3rd rounder)

I would like to add to the list of cloggers Heath Scotland, Adam Bentick, Andrew Carazzo and Wiggo as players who will not figure in our top side when we start playing finals football.

Think your right there DD, they will start to see through Scotland by then, only goes 1 way at the moment.

Unfortunately, AB seems to be a victim of supporters who think you have to have 22 Judds or 22 Murphys or 22 Gibbs to win a premiership. Apparently if you're not an elite talent you will never play in a premiership side. Quote from Mediumsizered on Adam Bentick thread

You just dont get it Diggler - every premiership team has their fair share of good honest types ;)

Cam Mooney played in the Roos 99 Premiership side and went statless

Didn't even lay a tackle, or get a free kick for or against, did absolutely nothing.

He played 11 games in 1999 and had 38 disposals and kicked 2.3 for the season, laying 3 tackles in the process.

He was an honest type back then, who quite frankly can consider himself very lucky to have played in two premierships.

That is not the point - some clubs come to rely on them too much. I would even go as far as to say that people who are constantly defending all of these players are the ones with the blinkers on. Few of us are saying that these players have little or no value merely saying that there comes a time to let go in an effort to find the right mix and create opportunities.

I know some people are football conservatives but I personally don't think a hoard mentality works in the draft era.

Seriously, it is a red-herring to think like that.

So...every player with a question mark is a potential Cam Moody then? I'd hate to see the outcome if a club took that kind of logic too literally. Besides, Cam Mooney was an acquisition for Geelong, so its a different scenario and you can only say for certain that that particular occurrence was good for Cam Moody. Whether Geelong could have done equally as well or even better if a different scenario had occurred is very much open to debate.
