Does the GC meeting completely destroy Ablett's chances of being captain?

Not sending a good message if you give your club captaincy to a player who is secretly meeting with another club about the possibility of a future move.

Ling has to be and deserves to be the raging hot fave for the job. Gazz is only a sniff due to the Cats being wary of the Gold Coast offer. If he was contracted beyond next year this discussion wouldn't be being had as Ling would have already been appointed.

As for Mackie? No way, he might be mentioned inner sanctum for shits and giggs, but he's no chance of captain ahead of the likes of Ling, Ablett, Jim, Corey, Enright, Selwood and Chapman.

I'm with you Catfan. Ling for 2-3 years then Selwood. Make Selwood v-c now to set up the succession plan. That would fit with the Geelong way of doing things IMO.
