About 5 or 6 years ago we held the first GD Debate competition. It was a lot of fun and quite entertaining. I figured I might see if people were interested in doing another one. It’s not your typical high school debate, more a typical GD board discussion. Creativity, humour and the like is encouraged!
We would need 16 people for the comp to run properly, this would mean if you win you progress, if you lose you’re eliminated. First in best dressed. I wouldn’t mind taking part, so if there’s someone that wants to host that round, that would be great. I'll use this post to update the participants.
We would also need a few judges, but if we don’t get the numbers the contestants that aren’t participating in that particular debate can judge.
Below is an outline of how it would run…
- I will PM both participants with the Debate Topic and the side they are arguing.
- There will be a limit on response time at 48 hours from the PM. If people need more we might stretch it out. If it is a lot, we can give less.
- The format is up to you. There is to be no debate-like introductions (e.g Todays topic is…, these are my arguments). Post however you want. You can make it funny, silly, educational, whatever you want.
- Word count - 200-300 word limit. You can include 3 images and one 30 second video.
- Rebuttals: Once both posters have completed their argument, they will send their finalised piece to me via PM. I will then send each persons argument to each other. Rebuttles need to be done within 24 hours. Word count will be 50-100 words. Once both posters have rebutted, i'll send the debate to the judges, who will then vote for their winner and give a quick reason why.
- Once this process has finished, I will then post the debate and the results. This is so that people don’t give others ideas or spoil arguments etc.
If we don’t get 16 then I’ll just delete the thread and pretend it never happened
