Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

Yeah but also Marshall feels like the ruckman you have when you're not having a ruckman
Marshal can play forward not many rucks can. Agree rucks are the least valuable position on the field. Just look at the grand finalists of last 10. Bar Gawn not one good quality Ruck.

It's about to become the most important position on the ground in the coming 2026 season & beyond.
If we bring in Marshall, and hope Conway and Edwards can begin to play steady minutes, that is one crucial area of the ground we have solved. One of which has plagued us since the retirement of Brad Ottens.
wouldnt say that, will be less stoppages, athleticism will be key, but you will be able to get by almost not playing one.

what do we think gets the curnow deal done? mackie is being hellbent on one first and a player of someone like neale. his final series has hurt our internal valuation of him.

Guthrie finally gone. Excellent career but I had visions of Scott holding onto him like we did Josh Cowan.

Hopefully a few more get the flick in the coming days so we can continue replenishing this list.

We're going to the draft with two picks apparently as is the poor nature of this years draft.

Sounds like pick 19, our NGA product Jesse Mellor and then upgrade Mullin from rookie. Possibly then take Rongdit as a Cat B rookie (NGA). And a couple of rookie draft picks.

Are we seeing the same rule changes? To me it’s becoming even less relevant as a position and ironically would suit a younger Rhys Stanley beautifully

I think that despite the age of our first choice rucks we'll actually be in a better position next year than this year if the last disposal rule comes in.

That rule in the SANFL resulted in 25% fewer stoppages.

Agree, you’ll also have Worpel and looks like TB will be back. I think Geelong will be in it up to their ears in 2026.

I think it'll be hard to make a firm prediction on us though overall.

The last disposal rule i think suits us in a few ways but 5 on the bench will make everyone else run out games better, which takes away our advantage late in quarters.

One or two players have to go out for Worpel/Bruhn and suddenly we get slower when everyone else gets faster. But our contest gets better when that was worse before, maybe, depends who you ask on that.

We also had an injury run early this year which decimated our backline specifically but then we recovered to go into finals with only the big toblerone. Does a reversion to mean on injuries makeus worse bevause there's more or better because they're not all in one place.

So are we better or worse? I dunno

Fixtures and injuries just make such a big difference now.

Difference between finishing 2nd and missing the finals was 3 games last season.

If we get GC in Darwin and Freo in Perth, then our top 4 double up game is against the Hawks instead of Port, it makes it much more difficult than this year. There is potentially 3 wins to 3 losses off the bat.

If we can find an adequate replacement for Cameron then our list is in a good place for the medium term.

I can definitely see the potential for a blip year next year though which is why I'm glad the Saints rejected a future first for Marshall. That could end up a pick similar to the one we used on COS last time we struggled backing up from a GF.

Pies and Swans (twice) have also struggled on the back up from a GF recently so it is not an unusual occurrence now with the short pre seasons and the lop sided fixtures.

I guess.
Clohesy, Wiltshire (one of the worst AFL listed players in the comp), Stevens, Knevitt, Pike, these blokes are very average football players.
They're very reminiscent of the likes of Stringer, Hartman, Schroder, Lucey, Buzza etc.
You can't delist them all in one season. It would be great to cull 8 depth players for A graders each season but that's not realistic.

Having said that, Wiltshire being retained is a bit surprising.

Geelong have the best home ground advantage in the AFL

Statistically it’s an 80% win rate

This means that geelong always end up higher on the ladder in the home and away season , and as a result end up with more aa jumpers , but almost always fall away in the finals

And the cycle continues

We no longer have a big advantage at KP. We haven't played a style that suits it for years now.

We played 4 games against finals sides there this year and won only 2. We got spanked by brisbane and lost to an undermanned GWS. We beat the suns and freo there. The rest of the sides we played there could have been played anywhere, we wouldn't have lost regardless.

This is garbage and everyone knows it
