Winning games comes so easily for the Geelong Football Club having won 95 out of a possible 111 games between 2007 and the end of round 13, 2011 and also in between were 2 Grand Finals and a NAB cup.

Supporters of any club would be proud of such an amazing feat, yet for all this success i doubt this would still erase the decades of failure at the Geelong Football Club. Over the last 45 years the successful Geelong Football Club has lost 6 Grand Finals, does that epitomise success?

In a season where a club only loses 2 games, but one of those games is the Grand Final does that epitomise success?

2 Grand Final wins in the last 45 years, does that epitomise success?

When you are comparing yourself with clubs like Freo, Bulldogs, Saints, Melbourne, then hell yeah you epitomise success.

But when clubs like Hawthorn and Carlton have won 17 Grand Finals between them in that same time, Geelong and their supporters epitomise FAIL.

Is there room in your argument for a club that wins a flag then fails to win a final for the following 2 years and even finishes out of the 8 in the 1st year, despite having a self proclaimed young list?

When we get to a Grand Final, more often than not we win.

You are trying to point out the sh1tness of the Hawks, yet they were the same sh1t team you guys choked to for your second loss of the season. LMFAO

Or if you didnt choke they were the best team either way.... check mate.

Emphasis on the "when".
You had a nice little run and got a flag. Well done. Since then you have been and continue to be...shit.
We, however, re-grouped and won another flag and are well placed this year for another chance. Sustained excellence is what this Geelong team will be remembered for.
This Hawthorn group will be remembered for...well, actually they'll not really be remembered will they?

Sustained excellence? 95 wins from a possible 111 over 4 and half years with only 2 flags and a GF loss.

I still cant believe Geelong supporters want to be compared to a team that won 3 flags in a row and were sitting ducks in the 4th GF they competed in, in as many years. To me and most people in here other than Geelong flogs that is sustained excellence.

That Hawthorn team will be remembered for not allowing the Chokelong Football Club a chance to be compared to the modern day great teams.

eg: Richmond and Carlton late 60's, 70's and early 80's(11 flags between them from '67-82), Hawthorn 80's and early 90's(8 out of 9 GF appearances from 83-91, 13 consecutive finals series appearances) and Brisbane 2001-04 3 GF wins in a row and an unfortunate loss in 2004. Maybe for you backwater hicks you'll take anything after years of failure, but the aforementioned examples are sustained excellence.

Mate they're doing about as well as Hawthorn of the 80s were at this stage. About to be top 4 for the 5th season in a row, for the first time since equalisation measures, so how about you give them a chance to compete. How is comparing a 4 year period to a 8 year period ever going to work?

How is comparing one club over 4 years to two combined clubs over a 15 year period going to work?

You sound as if you're genuinely wanting a discussion on this, but you're being ridiculous. If the Cats were out of the running for finals I could understand your confusion, but they're top of the ladder undefeated so maybe the story isn't completely over yet?

And even if it was, I personally woudl not be shattered. 2 flags for 3 GFs is more than I ever thought to see form my club, and like it or not the 100 game record has never been bettered and I have enjoyed almost every minute.

My apologies. I wasn't completely aware from the OP that you were just fishing. Carry on...

im comparing clubs over 45 years, yet all you Geelong flogs argue is over the last 4 years. Yeah you've done alright, but only over a short period, sustained success like the hawks a flag every 5 years or the blues every 5 and half years epitomises a successful culture.

Also if you're happy with your 2 flags then i cant argue with that. Other than say a truly great club would expect more with that strikerate.

Why 45 years? Why not the time Hawthorn have been in the comp?

Good day sir.
