Geelong rorting the system

The media says oh what a great club 10 prelims in 15 years or something, but look at their AA players this year- Both demanded trades there right?
How did your BnF winner get to your club?

I think your list is pretty fantastic, with lots of depth. So a top 8 spot should be easily obtainable with a different coach at the helm (and it doesn’t even need to be someone like Dimma). I will say that I think Chris Scott is the best coach in the league and always good for 3-4 wins just based off his coaching.

Geelong are great at topping up every year. You basically don’t need to go to the draft. That’s the benefit of being Geelong and being an attractive destination for talented locals players you have been able to get back to Geelong from other clubs.
Seriously underestimating the work done by Nigel Lappin and the other development coaches in developing players.

You can draft the best players, but if you don't develop them, they aren't worth more than the last pick in the rookie draft

Yes. That is a good point.

Cameron, Smith, Dangerfield and Bowes were the only players out there on Friday who weren't drafted by Geelong or discarded by another club (Stengle, Martin). Now the first three are important players, but we still parted with 7 first round picks for them. That leaves 19 other players who we basically did need to go to the draft for, with generally terrible selections of draft picks.

Okay, it was a shit call.

So you think most coaches can consistently take several teams half filled with rookies and cat B’s and take them to top four finishes over the period of a decade and constantly challenge for a premiership?? So why can nobody else do this then as you claim??

And wrong, we don’t keep topping up, the majority of our list is internal growth via late picks, rookies and cat B players.

The last several years we have introduced as an example:

Dempsey- cat B rookie
Humphries- pick 70
Shannon neale- pick 33
Oasin mullin- cat B rookie
Jack bowes- playing GCS reserves ( salary dump acquisition)
Osullivan- pick 11
Jack Martin- delisted free agent.
Mannagh- pick 36
Bailey smith- pick 7 (original draft pick)

That on face value is garbage… but we continue to turn them into gold

I said top 8, not top 4.

There was a deal made with the AFL in 2002. I can't disclose my source.

Readers might recall that this was the year that the Carlton salary cap breach was discovered. There has been much written about the consequences for the Carlton Football Club for the breach - $1m fine, loss of draft picks, etc.

However, the salary cap breach impacted Geelong as they lost the 1995 Premiership to the cheating Blues. The 1995 year being the relevant salary cap breach year.

The AFL approached senior leaders at the club at the time. There were two options presented: 1. strip Carlton of the 1995 Premiership and give it to Geelong; or 2. allow Geelong access to the Father Sons that were coming through the pipeline (something that was available to all clubs, but the AFL dressed it up as a win for the Cats).

Geelong seized the opportunity. Despite being cheated out of the 1995 Premiership, they saw an opportunity - access to the upcoming Father Sons in the 2002 and 2003 years on precisely the same terms as every other AFL club. GFC took the AFL's offer with both hands.

In 2002, Geelong - rorters that they are - selected Tim Callan. Poor Essendon had to settle for Jobe Watson.

In 2003, Geelong, again rorting the advantage they were given, selected Mark Blake. Poor Collingwood got F/S selection Heath Shaw.

And if you've read this far and think this is slightly tongue in cheek, you'd be right. Carlton should have absolutely forfeited the 1995 Premiership.

This is all getting a bit silly.

Cats have an established history of managing their club professionally, drafting well, creating an environment that makes free agents consider them along with OOC etc. They just do their football administration well and in turn their winning record makes them remain an attractive prospect.

I get that it’s tempting when you are disappointed with your club to dream up conspiracies about a successful club, but it’s wacko stuff.

Are you saying 2002 is the year when the Cats got their first taste of rorting and loving how sweet it tasted decided to take it further and further as the years went by. Thank you for this historical insight.

The net is closing in.

Working five full-time jobs and still finding time to lead our recruitment and give master coach Fagan a finals thumping.

It wouldn’t be too difficult surely.

Here’s how much we will pay you in the cap. Here’s how much we will rort you outside the cap. Would you like to come?

Geelong clearly cheating by abducting past players using a time machine , giving them cheap plastic surgery and a brainwash and rolling them out as "uninjured" versions of their players.

So obvious when you see the faces, they're just stock Hollywood and other media package deals.

Getting silly? It's been silly the whole time

You know, I don't know if people are putting 2 and 2 together yet on our new, upcoming rort.

It's actually quite devious.

What's Geelong's biggest list gap? No ruck between Stanley's retirement and Edwards bulking up. What's Geelong's biggest strength? Fast, high endurance players off the ball.

Where are rucks useful? Stoppage mostly

What if there was a rule change we could plug and play from a state league where it was shown to dramatically reduce the number of stoppages and directly lead to faster more attacking play, which would also increase the value of fast off-ball players while diminishing the value of ruckman?

"Yeah, it's me. Stage 2 of rule manipulation is a go. Time to rug pull ruckman"

Duncan off to West Coast.
Kelly and King in the running at Melbourne.

Our newest rort is spreading our wings to maximise player acquisitions with our planted double agents.
We really are this league.
