The biggest reason Geelong has been so successful is because of 'Geelong's recruiting and development' over a sustained period of time and to think otherwise is pure ignorance. (SEE ABOVE geelong_crazy26: current list ✅) If Geelong end's up having a statue of Chris Scott outside our main entrance down at the Cattery then they should also have one of Stephen Wells alongside of him as he has been the MAIN mastermind behind Geelong's long sustained success in competing in finals on an almost regular basis since 2007. The 'good fortune' Geelong FC has has had in this time was getting Tom Hawkins as a F/S and the other getting superstars Paddy Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron into the club, along with Bailey Smith being a nice bonus in recent times. But buy and large it's all been about 'recruitment and development' that has led to Geelong's long stained success of playing in finals...... in Wells and Mackie we trust and GO CATS !!!

...and haven't the only times a losing club has matched an offer for a RSA been both Adelaide for Danger and GWS for Jezza?

Lynch wasn't a rort he was our 1 free agent in 15 years.
Rioli is well worth pick 6, they won their first final ever didn't they?
Dangerfield and Cameron should have been two top 5 picks and Bailey Smith should have been a top 5 pick.
I love this, first everyone says Clangerfield and Bailey Sniff are overrated, can't kick and both have terrible disposal efficiency then all of a sudden Danger is worth 2 top 5 picks and Smith a top 5 pick……cracks me up every time.

Fun fact: Geelong didn't take a single selection inside the top 10 of the 2023 draft yet all of O'Sullivan (gun), Humphries (jet) and Mannagh (AFL Coaches Association Best Young Player) were part of that stunning finals win Friday night. Wellsy might've done it again.

Everyone is envious of Geelong outside of maybe Brisbane/Hawthorn/Collingwood. There is no rorting, just a well ran club.

I feel for supporters of clubs like Carlton & Essendon. Once big dogs now forced to sit on the side lines as the mighty Cats dominate the AFL for what, 20 odd years now?

Very glad the Lions have followed their path in shrewd recruiting! St.Kilda are still stuck in the war chest mindset, smh.

The rorts are Bowes and pick 7 for free ,and Bailey Smith , Dangerfield and Cameron for well unders.
Do you know how negotiations work? I've explained the Bowes thing before.

Gold Coast mucked up their salary cap so they had a NEED to offload salary.
Bowes had a contract and was ENTITLED to stay at Gold Coast.
Gold Coast ASKED him to explore other options.

Geelong wasn't willing to take him on such a high salary, so negotiated a PICK from Gold Coast to sweeten the deal.
Gold Coast had plenty of young highly-rated draftees so that pick was less valuable to them.

It's not rocket science. Simple negotiation and deal making. If Gold Coast were unhappy about it they WOULD NOT HAVE MADE THE DEAL.

I have too. We could explain it to this dipsh!t a billion times and it wouldn't matter. In his ignorant, pathetic, childish mind anything he doesn't personally like in the world is unjustly wrong and warrants him pretending and playing 1+1=3 with everything to do with it.

"Turning Pick 60 and rookies and VFL journeymen into good players is a another rort!"

(Aristotle, probably)

All 3 of them would go top 4 in a re-draft. Great drafting? No, just another rort by Geelong

Yeah, believe so TheEscapeClub: ..... just imagine the outrage if it wasn't so and the two clubs in question didn't match us and we kept those picks with Danger and Jezza coming to club, reckon it would have been a bridge too far for some of these poor deluded conspiracy desperados on this thread, that would have been at breaking point to be sure. Goodness, I still worry for them if the Cats are fortunate enough to win the flag this year as it still maybe all too much for them anyway, they do seem at tipping point poor souls. TheEscapeClub: with the importance and awareness of mental health, we may need to consider setting up a 'Cat MH Counselling Bureau' headed by Mr Meow: to help these poor buggers out if we do happen to win the 2025 flag..... and GO CATS !!!

Don't forget with the 2020 draft where Geelong traded out to bring in Cameron we still managed to grab Max Holmes (p20) and Shannon Neale (p33). And if it weren't for the northern academy handouts he'd have brought in Gulden too. Stephen Wells activated the cheat code that year.

This is starting to upset me. What about Jack Henry, Tom Stewart, Ollie Dempsey and Gryan Miers? They'd have to have been top 5 picks surely?

Steven Hocking must be pretty chuffed at the moment.

Steve Hocking you mean? The football club he played 199 games for and is now CEO at is into the prelims. Why would a CEO not be 'chuffed' with that? Do you have any idea how stupid and ridiculous what you come out with looks like?
Chuffed that he changed the rules of Australian Rules Football and it benefitted his club.
