I get that. But I wouldn’t exact say Francis Evans was lost due to wanting to go to a bigger club or even a capital city. It was more to do with playing opportunity. He played 27 games at Port in two years and 7 at Geelong in two years. It was a smart career move.
Yeah, I was making fun of Carlton
I'm only going off what Evans has said himself, that tiny towns such as Geelong do not suit his tastes and desires. He is flourishing where the bright lights are and many players have that lure.

Unfortune to lose a player like FRANK the TANK but those are the disadvantages a club like Geelong face by not being a capital city.
Apart from being incredibly well run...
The biggest reason Geelong has been so successful is because they practically have the home ground advantage of an interstate team, without having to travel every second week, whilst also getting sufficient exposure to the MCG (6-7 games a year).
Just a unique quirk of being the only regional team in the state.
Additionally - with the advent of social media and increased media scrutiny, it does seem a lot more attractive for some players to hide in Geelong rather then go to a big Melbourne club with increased scrutiny, and there seems to be a weird pattern of Geelong player indiscretions being swept under the carpet by the media (see Stengle/Rohan and a few others).

I know this isn’t a pointed shot at us and just pointing out circumstances.
But what is with this sufficient exposure shit? Aside from crowd size which I guess MIGHT overawe some of the mentally weaker players who don’t get exposure there, most grounds are reasonably similar dimensions to the MCG anyway aside from probably Adelaide, and we have a good record at every ground in the comp. Perth is our worst venue along with the Showgrounds currently since Scott took over and we have a 6-6 win loss record there. And and an 2-2-1 record at the Showground (we are 2-1 at Manuka during that time against the Giants). Even the SCG during that time, a period in which the Swans have been the next most consistently good side, we have a winning record.
At Adelaide we are 14-9. At Carrara we are 8-4. If you’ve played somewhere a couple of times, at the professional level, that should be enough. If the Giants can keep coming to KP once every year or two and smacking us, why does every other team need to be familiar with a ground to have an advantage there!
If you want an outlier for us I guess you can go to Darwin where we lost our only game to the Suns last year. I don’t blame that on familiarity. We got absolutely f**ken hammered. I blame it on us being shit and the Suns playing out their arse.

Evans wasn’t, but Ablett was. The AFL gave him a nice farm. Probably.
He was part of our list for our flag in 2022, I think the only Carlton player in the last 15 years with more success than him is Daisy Thomas from your mob.
The biggest reason Geelong has been so successful is because of 'Geelong's recruiting and development' over a sustained period of time and to think otherwise is pure ignorance. (SEE ABOVE geelong_crazy26: current list
) If Geelong end's up having a statue of Chris Scott outside our main entrance down at the Cattery then they should also have one of Stephen Wells alongside of him as he has been the MAIN mastermind behind Geelong's long sustained success in competing in finals on an almost regular basis since 2007. The 'good fortune' Geelong FC has has had in this time was getting Tom Hawkins as a F/S and the other getting superstars Paddy Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron into the club, along with Bailey Smith being a nice bonus in recent times. But buy and large it's all been about 'recruitment and development' that has led to Geelong's long stained success of playing in finals...... in Wells and Mackie we trust and GO CATS !!!

I'm framing it as the success that players have had elsewhere before they went to Carlton. Thomas was a premiership player at the Pies and Frank the Tank was part of our premiership list before they moved to Carlton. I forgot to include Judd though so Frank moves down to being the third most successful Carlton player of recent times. Obviously Tuohy, like every other Carlton player, had zero success until they moved on.

Wouldn't make a difference as most of our players were taken after that pick anyway.

The rorts are Bowes and pick 7 for free ,and Bailey Smith , Dangerfield and Cameron for well unders.

Lynch wasn't a rort he was our 1 free agent in 15 years.
Rioli is well worth pick 6, they won their first final ever didn't they?
Dangerfield and Cameron should have been two top 5 picks and Bailey Smith should have been a top 5 pick.
