Not having JHenry nearly cost us the Pies game and probably did cost us the Giants game. COS looking like he needs a rest but he is ploughing on as we need him too.

Mullins slowly getting to the stage where he adds to the group.

Was our forwardline that good or was it Port. Cameron put them to the sword. Neale still just in his first full year of being a regular best22 , probably still a couple years away from his best but he seems to pop in for a mark or two. OHenry really been out of form for a while but they are persisting.

Could it be that we are still trying to work our Blitz best role at 34? Need seem to say its ruck. Do tehy bring Stanley back for the Dogs? Id think we bets be careful about asking him to ruck full time as if he goes down or gets injured we need about three players to step up to cover what he adds.

Dogs will be another level..perhaps two other levels…and Im sure Smith will cop a heap of attention. We need more Smiths ..two our best recruits in recent years have been Smiths. More please.

The issue against the giants was that we were missing jhenry AND kolo plus Stewart AND Lawson. Plus no Stanley meant we couldn’t use blitz in defence.

We have a lot of flexibility down back, and can cover a lot, but having all those guys out meant that we were paper thin and relying on COS and Guthrie to do jobs that they aren’t best suited to. And also asking SDK to lead a defence which he is not quite up to at this point in his career.

Just getting jhenry and Lawson back this week meant our structure was far better in defence because everyone else (SDK, COS and Zuthrie) were able to play in their preferred roles. When Stewart and Kolo come back it will be even more solid and at that point we will likely start resting the blokes who have carried a heavy load to date (particularly COS and SDK).

He actually had a very good game if you look at it overall.

I would need to watch again but i can't remember many times if any the ball went in his direction and he didn't at least bring it to ground.

My favourite thing about him is his effort in almost everything he does... He chases, tackles, gets fingers on kicks etc.

If he can start more consistently marking the ball and kicking 2+ goals a game he will be the whole package

He did get his fingertips on his opponents kicks from memory. That 1% effort is vital. Changed the direction of the ball and also means that it’s called play on and increases pressure.

I think he did well.

No. There is room for both Danger and Cameron on our forward line, especially defensively.
Only if we lock Cameron into traditional forward and lead, because he remains ineffective roaming the ground, and at a higher risk of injury. Horses for courses, and look what happened.

I actually would love to see Neale get up the ground and run around more and keep Cameron deeper for longer periods.

Neale has the tank to do it and generally uses it well.

That's a great chart. Danger correlates with TOG though, and shows they rest him much more than I thought. Who in their right mind imagined MOC with the hugest MG score? More than Smith. That's good craic!

I believe so.
Dangerfield doesn't finish off his work like Cameron does from full forward. Will never be a consistent set shot for goal. He creates carnage like no other forward in the game but that doesn't necessarily equate to net positive.

Perhaps Dangerfield may need to take a backward step and realize this is Cameron's team and he's not the main man?

Only saw snippets of the game but it seems Close was doing some Close things again.

Not at all confident going into next week, feel we will treat it as a battle and the Bulldogs will treat it as a war.

We better flipping not do that! The 8 is going to be tight again this year. Every win we can bank is important. They are in super form- we will have to be really switched on and play at our best to match them.

Spot on hinkley. Said this as well in the review and game day thread.

You can cover 1 player here and there to a line… but when you lose a defender.. then another defender.. then another and another… you have a wound requiring stitches as opposed to bandaids. The effect is magnified.

I would say the collingwood game suggests no.

It’s easy to look at one game and say that… but how will we feel in a tight one against the doggies?? We will all probably say “ oh jeez it would be nice to have danger busting some packs out there”.

Champions are always making your team better, and when the whips are cracking, it will be most noticeabl

I thought Neale was good. Lots of influence in a number of roles and positions on the ground. OH at least made position which he has not been doing, and nearly took a few hangers

I thought he was a liability going into the season but he has really given our team impact in a tagging role.

Huge credit to him and the coaching team. He has a huge edge as a tagged in that he has power and explosive traits that can have him go with powerful midfielders and nullify them. Most taggers don’t have explosive traits like mullin does and end up in that role due to athletic limitations, where as mullin is the opposite, he is in that role due to a lack of footy nous but has the athletic skills

O'Connor and Zuthrie looked much more comfortable with Henry and Humphries back. Port's forward line is dreadful, but you can only beat what's in front of you.

It was SO great to see Henry back. Gee he's playing well this year. Reads it really well and does lots of proactive work to set things up. Even when he's a little out-positioned he manages to get a hand in or effect the play in some way.

And Humphries is an emerging gun. Can't believe how well he's playing. I feel so comfortable when he has the ball. You just know he's going to do something good with it.

After reading + understanding the concept of Meeza + Lawson’s creation of Geelong’s Aboriginal guernsey + their family affinity, Lawson’s pride in his goal celebration summoned pure joy.

In addition to Lawson’s natural talent, we have a young, Aboriginal man who shares pride in diversity. He engenders + I think inspires acceptance + recognition of all.

I'm hoping chasing the likes of Daicos and Butters around will get him to soak up some of that knowledge. Once he's got a bit more nous he'll be able to run off his opponent now and then, and be an attacking tagger rather than a purely negating one.
