Geelong vs pies final should not be at the mcg.

There is no such thing as a home final, it's called home state,if you don't like playing at the MCG, move to NSW.
kardinia park is in the home state though??

What you mean is biggest stadium in the home state.

But in nsw we dont have play finals at the scg. We would get to play at kardinia park even if it was a suburb of sydney let alone a different city. I.e. not biggest stadium in home city let alone home state

What’s GMHBA’s expected capacity post renovations? Assuming it is less than half the MCG’s capacity would the AFL have still signed off for it to be played there? Engaging in hypotheticals here but just can’t see the AFL doing so when it knows it could have an additional 40k pies fans at a bigger stadium
The big Melbourne clubs will never play there IMO, and especially not in a final.

So geelong is discriminated against by a rubbish rule with the MCG that geelong had no involvement in.

maybe you get why we are pissed.
You get the benefit of playing away games against the big Melbourne teams at the G, interstate teams would kill for that, you’re also the only Victorian club with its own home ground making it a nightmare for visiting teams.

The big Melbourne clubs only get a true home ground advantage when they play interstate teams at the G, and most of them get moved to Marvel, the big Melbourne teams also are made to play home games against low drawing Melbourne clubs at Marvel, so stop your whining.

No, you get to play in your home state, where the AFL tell you to play, you don't get to pick, get it?

Cos they shouldnt be when geelong has earnt a home final.
They havent.

Read the rules as to what you have "earnt".
the appeal to tradition is an appeal to stupidity.

if we still went off tradition women wouldnt even have the right to vote.
HerpDerp.

Nothing to do with tradition.

Finals are league games, and the intent is to get maximum exposure (attendance) and $$ for the league.

They refuse to understand the basics.

A final is a league game.

The league plays it where they will make most money, which is usually also aligned with the largest crowd.

CatPark is a tertiary ground, a last resort type option only if the G was unavailable.

I think he knows, he just seems one of them people, you know, everything could be going his way, but still find something to cry about.

Like when buddy kicked his 8 goals against crom at the g?

In Round 22 2007, North, Hawthorn and Sydney all played on Sunday. Therefore none of those teams could play Friday night, and the only game that could be played then was Port v. West Coast. Therefore the AFL was forced to play a Telstra Dome final. Once again, another thing that can't happen any more because of the pre-finals bye.

Ok so finals aren’t always at the mcg.

Not sure why people don’t understand this yet?

What have people tried to tell you, it's home state, not home ground, the AFL can play them wherever they choose and they choose to play this one at the MCG, so sook away.
Not sooking. I understand why it’s the mcg this year. All I’m doing is pointing out that not all Victorian finals are at the mcg. Yes yes this home final “state” thing was introduced because Geelong wanted home finals. It’s not just a Geelong issue either. Marvel sides, Sydney have all been given the short straw on this issue. It’s just prevalent with Geelong because it comes up every year or so.

It's prevalent with Geelong because the MCG is just down the road.

If the MCG was in any other state, it would be used in that state also.

They are, unless there's a clash, like there was in 2007, 2011 and 2013, and since 2016 a clash is impossible. Therefore, all Victorian finals are at the MCG.
Yep, the G if the first, second and third preference for Victorian finals.

But back when there was 4 finals scheduled in Melbourne for week 1, Thursday finals werent a thing and either was the bye week or the floating rd23 fixture, the AFL scheduled the smallest drawing clash away for the G.

Three teams playing non-vic opponents played at back-up venues.

Saints got a "home" final at Etihad and lost
Geelong got a "home" final at CatPark and lost
Hawks were shifted from the G to play an "away final" at Etihad...and won easily.

Its just prevelant with Geelong because they constantly sook about it.

They normally dont deserve the higher finish, and are shown up outside of CatPark.

Everyone knows the playing conditions.

Finals are league based events used by the league to maximise $$ for the league.

Thursday was added because they get more TV $$ compared to a Sunday.

And they have never, and will never, limit fans paying for tickets by scheduling a vic v vic game anywhere except their main stadiums.

Didn’t hawks win on the last kick of the day ?

Please tell me how they don’t deserve the higher finish?
